Forum on : Religions

While moderating the forum on Homosexuality, I realized that all the justifications pro and against Homosexuality are based on religious dogmas. I'm myself a catholic, but looking to this current pope, I don't think I'm doing a lot of good to my church. At the same time I have to respect some dogmas, things that I believe, things that beyond the human condition.

How far can we go, when we realize that what the priest or the rabbi, or the imam says goes against our beliefs?

I think that although

Forum on : Homosexuality

Last week's Quote of the Week was from Oscar Wilde. And all of a sudden, someone said Oscar Wilde was a homosexual which is true. Then the discussion started to be not about the quote but about Oscar Wilde, sexuality and homosexuality in general. So, this week is about this Taboo : Homosexuality.

I'm looking forward for your opinions, and please remember that your comments will be moderated but not censored.

Thank you!

Quote of the Week

And each man kills the thing he loves,

By all let this be heard,

Some do it with a bitter look,

Some with a flattering word,

The coward does it with a kiss,

The brave man with a sword.

My Favorite Poems

There are several great Brazilian poets, my favorite being Manuel Bandeira. However, all the translations I found in internet are not good. I am posting one of is many wonderful verses in Portugues (at the end). And I would love to share one of my favorite poems - this one from the Greek K. Kavafis.

ITHACA

As you set out for Ithaca
hope your road is a long one,
full of adventure, full of discovery.
Laistrygonians, Cyclops,
angry Poseidon - don't be afraid of them:
you' ll never find things like that o

Suphi's favorite poem

HÜRRİYETE DOĞRU

Gün doğmadan,
Deniz daha bembeyazken çıkacaksın yola.
Kürekleri tutmanın şehveti avuçlarında,
İçinde bir iş görmenin saadeti,
Gideceksin
Gideceksin ırıpların çalkantısında.
Balıklar çıkacak yoluna, karşıcı;
Sevineceksin.
Ağları silkeledikce
Deniz gelecek eline pul pul;
Ruhları sustuğu vakit martıların,
Kayalıklardaki mezarlarında,
Birden
Bir kıyamettir kopacak ufuklarda.
Denizkızları mı dersin, kuşlar mı dersin;
Bayramlar seyranlar mı dersin,
Şenlikler cümbüşler mi?
Gelin alayları, teller, duvakla

Valentina's favorite poem

Forum On : Fear

Fear is a powerful tool. Society uses it to scare us about everything, and to keep us on the track. Family uses it to force to follow their dreams, not our dreams. It took me a long way and I paid a very high price to follow my dream. I'm wondering what to think about Fear, why do people try to instigate this fear in eveybody? And the best option is that, in your opinion, we have, to not respect this unnatural fear and move forward towards our dream.

Thank you,

Paulo
