i turned 21 two months ago. most the women in my family were already married or were getting married by the time they were my age. my mother got married when she was 18. a lot of brilliant and exciting and scary things are happening in my life right now and none of them involve tying the knot, i’m really proud to be part of a generation of brown women who are attempting to leave all of that behind and i’m beyond happy that i have the privilege to begin living the life that i want to lead.
wait what that last anon just said I'm pretty sure came from a kahla mercadante poem.. not cool to not source the author, anon. not cool.
I just googled it! It’s by Eliza Crewe, people are such snakes honestly!

That’s the deal. You love someone for them, sharp teeth and all. You don’t expect them to change. It comes naturally or it doesn’t.

There is something in me
cannot be healed.
There is something in me
needs breaking open.”
