“Because my love for you is beyond words, I decided to shut up.” ― Nizar Qabbani

How are you real? The way you weave words together is not a skill that belongs to a human. I just bought your book and I want to devour it but I have to take breaks and keep some tissues close by so that I can alternate between sitting in awe and crying li

Oh my goodness. This is such a. I just. I don’t know!!!! I’m so glad. For you and this message and that you have my book and that you’re reading it and I love you too, yeah? Ugh ugh ugh.

"You found me, mouth like a pomegranate

You found me, mouth like a pomegranate

picking flowers in my mother’s field.

An invitation of sorts.

You took it as one and spent five months

thinking about slipping your fingers into my mouth.

I think the Earth changed the day we met,

It had been waiting for you to bare your teeth

and swallow me whole

It had been waiting for the cup of your palm

around my neck except you didn’t have to beg baby

you said “let me show you what flowers look like

from the earth up.”

and I said “yes, please. Show me your flowers,

show me your dead, show me your fingers.”

My mother warned me about gods like you,

hungry, greedy gods like you

all desire and no thought

all want and no logic

I was the same.

I skipped with you into hell

Artemis knows dragged, I know this:

I held my arms outwards and let you tie them

so softly that I asked what they were made of

and you said “prayers.”

We kissed at the entrance, open-mouthed

furious kisses

we kissed like we were starving,

kissed like the dead were crawling out of hell

I decorated your dark with flowers

and sat on your lap and fed you petals.

It makes me burn when they say

“Hades stole Persephone.”

and I tell them “No.

I stole him.”

5000letters:

I could write a novel about Persephone and Hades but Persephone as a loud, gap-toothed impatient warrior who nearly scratches out his eyes when he tries to steal her and makes him regret every moment of it and Hades as a bespectacled frowny man who is constantly sighing and trying to pretend he doesn’t rule the underworld by smoking Cubans and being old English classy

Like, Persephone is sitting on a chair leaning backwards on it just inches from falling into a pool of writhing dead things and she says “reading the financial section of the newspaper doesn’t make you any less the ruler of hell, you know that right?” and Hades heaves a massive breath and lowers his glasses to look at her with a pursed and irritated lip and she shrugs, smiles (he falls in love again, with the space between her teeth) and she says “I’m just sayin’, you’re acting like a librarian when just last week I saw you drag Orpheus back here by his teeth.”

5000letters:

Gruff men who get all soft and happy when they’re with you
Big men with calloused hands who touch you like you’re something incredibly special
Grumpy men who chuckle at your bad jokes
Calm men who get protective and irrational and then pretend like they didn’t
Stoic men who look at you with gentle smiles on their face when you’re not looking at them with an expression that sort of says “I can’t believe she’s with me.”

My dear Azra. I know you have a naturally poetic mind, and I love it. So, I wanted to ask, what is the most romantic, beautiful thing you can say about brown eyes? Cuz I think brown eyes are underappreciated.

I didn’t really care for brown eyes when I was younger and slowly began to love them. I had a friend once, right? And we were having an intense discussion and I was looking at her in the eyes and she turned her face from me and said “don’t look at me with those eyes. They look like they could eat me whole.” And I always remember that so I guess brown eyes look like the cosmos. Plus have you ever stood at a window and the sun hits your face and your eyes look like a desert? It’s beautiful xx
