Mary Ann Harriet Margaret Hooper (1829- 1904) was a cooking instructor, born in England. She was a Professor of Domestic Economy at the Crystal Palace School of Arts, Science and Literature and beginning in 1874, organised cookery courses there. She wrote about thirteen books, mainly on cookery and the way housewives should best organise their kitchens. Her works include: Handbook for the Breakfast Table (1873), Little Dinners: How to Serve Them With Elegance and Economy (1875), Wives and Housewives: A Story For the Times (1875), Every Day Meals (1877), Cookery for Invalids, Persons of Delicate Digestion, and for Children (1879), Ways and Tricks of Animals
