genre Fantasy, Paranormal, Romance

Amy Sumida lives on an island in the Pacific Ocean where gods go to play. She sleeps in a fairy bed, high in the air, with two gravity-defying felines and upon waking, enjoys stabbing people with little needles, over and over, under the guise of making pretty pictures on their skin. She has no filter, making her honesty a little hard to take sometimes, but she has been fortunate enough to find friends who appreciate this… or at least tell her they do. She bellydances and paints pictures on her walls but is happiest with her nose stuck in a book, her mind in a different world than this one, filled with fantastical men who unfortunately don’t exist in our mundane reality. Thank the gods for fantasy. On a serious note, she’s the author of several books, including the Godhunter series, Feeding the Lwas, The Magic of Fabric, and Enchantress. She’s been writing since she was a little girl but first decided to pursue writing as a career when she gave her high school English teacher one of her books to look over and unbeknownst to her, that teacher passed her book around to all her friends. A month later she was accosted in the halls by a teacher she didn’t know, begging her to write a sequel. She’s been writing novels ever since. She enjoys serious, kick-ass heroines in her literature. “Nothing is more attractive than a woman who goes up against overwhelming supernatural odds with a sense of humor,” she says. “Who wouldn’t want to be that woman? I want to be that woman. So that’s who I write about, the woman I want to be.” Her main characters are strong, witty women, who in the midst of trauma will crack a joke, or find the nerve to sass a villain even when they know it’s not in their best interest. Add to that, strong male characters who aren’t intimidated or emasculated by the main heroine’s strength and you have a dynamic partnership. Amy’s books aren’t about women being more powerful than men or subjugating men in any way, they’re about women who can be strong and yet allow their men to have their own strengths as well. More importantly, her heroines have humility and weaknesses that make them not only believable but easy to relate to. She’s also an artist and you can find her paintings for sale on Etsy.com, her favorite subjects are scenes inspired by Hawaii and her series of “Living Vodou Dolls”. She loves the beautifully unusual.

There are some things that really annoy Vervain Lavine. Like when people call her Vivian; “Vervain’s an herb, look it up.” Or when people don’t get her movie quotes; “Why doesn’t anyone appreciate culture anymore?” But what really bothers her, what gets her little witchy panties in a twist, is when gods manipulate humans. “They’re not even really gods, just Atlanteans playing dress up!”

Yeah, that’s right, the gods are Atlanteans. Basically a bunch of refugees who decided to take over. It was a sweet deal for them, at least back when we believed in them and all. Not so much anymore. Nowadays, there ain’t too many folks lining up at the altars to give their offerings, and gods are suffering for it. Without our sacrifices, the gods don’t have enough juice to keep living in the manner to which they’ve grown accustomed. So they came up with a plan. It was so easy actually. All they had to do was get us to fight amongst ourselves, go to war. When our kind die, they suck up the energy like a temperature-resistant fat man drinking a milkshake line-up. Not such a bad idea, and it’s worked for quite awhile. Up until Vervain found out.

Now, don’t get the wrong idea. Vervain’s no Laura Croft. She can’t bench press 200 lbs or shoot laser beams out of her eyes either. She does have magic on her side though and a few little tricks up her sleeve, or up her gloves rather. So she’s not completely defenseless and she’ll do whatever she has to in order to end this threat of divine proportions. Even if it means assassinating one god at a time.

Her greatest annoyance is yet to come though, in the form of a gorgeous Viking God who swears he’s on her side. If she can keep her eyes off his leather pants long enough, they might even stand half a chance.

The Second Book in the Godhunter Series:

Vervain Lavine finally has a moment to relax. She’s defeated Aphrodite, taking back the magic that the goddess stole from humans. Now Vervain holds the powers of Love, Sex, War, and Victory inside her but she’s not really sure if that makes her a goddess. She is fairly certain that she’s still mortal but her new immortal boyfriend, Thor doesn’t seem to be worried about it. What he is worried about is Vervain’s bond to a werewolf Prince and the fact that said Prince is the first-born son of Fenrir, the Wolf God. Then there’s the minor issue of a Harvest goddess whose daughter Vervain liberated and the angry Aztec god who hasn’t been seen since the last time Vervain ruined his plans to launch the next world war. All valid arguments for concern but Vervain can’t afford to waste her time worrying. When you’re a mortal witch trying to keep up with gods, every moment is precious. So she tries to laugh off her anxieties instead, “Let them plan and plot against me. The best laid schemes of gods and wolves oft go awry.”

 Oathbreaker

The Third Book in The Godhunter Series:

Vervain Lavine needs a little time to figure things out. Things like how to control the multiple beasts and magics inside her. Or how to lead a Pride of werelions who act more like a bunch of frat boys than grown men. She needs to work out her relationship with Trevor, the werewolf Prince bonded to her, and if his grandfather, Loki, is serious in his repentance or just up to more of his trickery. Demeter’s still on the run, after her attempt on Trevor’s life, and it’d be great if Vervain could figure out where she’s hiding before the goddess tries to kill her too. She’d also like to know why a bunch of vampires keep following her around. What’s all that about? Then there’s Odin, leader of a faction of gods opposing Vervain in the God War. He needs her help and he’s willing to pay for it but can she trust her enemy, a god referred to as the Oathbreaker? He’s helped her in the past and she owes him but the way she feels around him is a complication that she just doesn’t need… and one more thing for her to figure out. Yeah, the Godhunter could really use some time to think things through but it doesn’t look like she’ll get it.

 markedby death

The Fourth Book in the Godhunter Series:

After the battle in Asgard, Vervain Lavine just wants to celebrate the victory with her friends and family. The fact that those friends happen to be gods and the family is a bunch of werewolves and werelions only makes the victory that much sweeter. But the wound from Anubis’ blade has scarred over and the cold beginning to spread from it is worrisome. Not to mention the link it’s established between her and the Egyptian God of the Dead, who seems intent on making her pay for daring to attack him. Then there’s Demeter, still out to get her, and Ares who may be holding a grudge for the loss of his lover and his left hand. Besides the gods who want her dead, there’s the goddess who wants her help stopping a drug lord who also happens to be a god, feeding off overdoses and drug related murders. So it’s a little hard for the Godhunter to celebrate, in fact she can barely sleep ever since the night that she was marked by Death.

The Fifth Book in The Godhunter Series:

One sip from the Grayel has made Vervain Lavine immortal. She’s finally truly a goddess but that doesn’t mean she can’t die, just that the task of killing her has become much harder for those gods who want her dead. That list seems to be getting longer and the latest name on it is Xi Wangmu, The Chinese Plague and Tiger Goddess. Xi Wangmu has come to Hawaii and she’s brought Black Death with her. As the Godhunter races to catch a tiger by her toe, more and more obstacles are thrown in her way. From an unhappy alpha werewolf to the headaches of her human family, it looks like Vervain’s going to need a little help this time. Being a goddess isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

 atasteforblood

Book Six in the Godhunter Series:

Vervain Lavine has been through Hell. Two Hells actually, one of which has banned her from ever returning. Despite all that, things are going pretty well for the Godhunter. At least they were until she turned on the news. Crops across America are dying, children in Hawaii are missing, and havoc is being wrecked upon her nightclub, Moonshine. It’s obviously God messing with her again but which one is it this time? There’s so many gods who want her dead these days. Then one wrong word sends her tumbling into the wrong realm, a strange place filled with stranger beings who seem to hold the answers to her past. With the promise of a new life lingering like the taste of blood on her lips, Vervain must decide what she values more, the life she’s built with the men she loves, or the call of the blood.

taintedweb

Married life has proven to be complicated for Vervain Lavine. Maybe it’s the pressure of being the last dragon-sidhe in existence, the hope of an entire race of faeries. Or maybe it’s the fact that her husband lives in the Faerie Realm where he rules the Kingdom of Fire. Or then again, it could be because he married her after abducting her and stealing her memories of her four other lovers. That’s a tough one. He did do a lot to make it up to her though, and she’s forgiven Arach but that doesn’t mean that the Godhunter is ready to hang up her fighting leathers in exchange for becoming a dragon mommy. Before she can decide what to do about the Faerie King, another problem arises in the form of a god who seems to be able to control the Internet. Internet crime takes on a whole new meaning under his influence and it becomes clear that his nefarious deeds must be stopped. But can the Godhunter find a way to destroy the God of the Internet before she’s caught in his Tainted Web?

The Healing Power of Mumio? Week Two

mumio

Onto week two…

Day 8 and 9 –> I started felling much better. Great:( The people I work for kids are sick and running fevers. I see the kids almost every day. I do not need to get sick again!

Day 10 –> rolled around and I woke up congested, again!! Argh… Does this mean I’m trying to pick up the bug the kids have? I guess it doesn’t matter, half the people I know are sick all of the time too. And most are around kids 5 days a week. I want the immune system my son has! I remember those days– sick maybe once or twice a year.

Nope, not giving up on Mumio yet. I’m going to take it for the full 30 days.

Whew… Day 11 –> not congested anymore. I wonder, do bugs just bury themselves in my body until they feel the need to come out? I’m thinking that I had a little more than a sinus infection going on because I’ve been on a small rollercoaster ride of feeling good/feeling not so good. I haven’t felt as bad as I did with the sinus infection. And so far I haven’t picked up the stomach bug the kids have:) I have been breaking out a little though. Mumio to the rescue, it dries out breakouts pretty fast, without the benzoyl peroxide. I like to stick with more natural products if I can, plus I read somewhere that Mumio can be used as a face tonic. It tightens your skin, but I wouldn’t recommend any white people using it in the morning-I’m very white in the winter and it left a strange tint on my face. It would probably be best to use at night as a face tonic.

Mumio is said to have great anti-aging benefits and prolongs your life span.

Day 12 –> Felling better and have more energy. Kicking out infections is a tiring job. I’ve been wiped out by 7 o’clock on most nights, but I’m sure waking up to my husbands alarm at 4:30 in the morning hasn’t helped.

Day 13 –> Yesterday I had a lot more energy, this morning congested again… I wonder if part of it is because January has been so dry and the heater is constantly running. I did set up my humidifier last week for some moister in the house. At least my dog and I aren’t so shocking anymore:) LOL

Day 14 –> Still congested this morning, but it cleared up in the afternoon and I had more energy, not as much as yesterday:(

An Emerging Threat

An evil stirs, casting a shadow across the Islands. Two men begin quests to find the source of the darkness.
One is a young scholar, given no choice but to follow the path ahead. Tragedy shapes him, nearly driving
him to despair; an inner struggle pervades his journey. The other is a warrior forced to the task through a
sense of responsibility. His royal blood and his knighthood drive his course. Their searches, though separate,
have the same goal: to find whatever or whoever may be responsible for the darkening of their world. This
book tells the story of their journey and the creatures, both friend and foe, that they meet along the way.

The Healing Powers of Mumio?–Week One

mumio

I’ve decided to try a new product my friend gave me last year:)

Let me start at the beginning…My friend is from Ukraine and this is a Ukrainian product (or shipped out of Ukraine). I was over at her house one day and she was dissolving this tar like, horrible smelling stuff in some water. I asked her what it was for (she’s a great cook and I honestly couldn’t see her putting it in her food), so I was clueless.

She told me that her son had a bump on his arm that wouldn’t go away and she was going to put some on his bump with a band aide over it, well it worked! Bump gone. She also proceeded to tell me about its health benefits; apparently it’s given out to people with serious infections. Mumio kicks up the immune system and gets rid of just about any kind of infection. Hmm… she gave me a packet and I threw it into my purse, I go camping as often as possible and thought it might come in handy. I never have had to use it on my camping trips, but I have used it on my spider bites. At least once a year I get bit, mainly because I hate wearing shoes outside if the weathers nice:) I haven’t thought about the Mumio since last summer.

Last month my dog got hit with some fierce allergies and I came down with a nasty cold. I took my dog to the vet and she had me put her on omega 3′s. Of course, I was complaining to my friend, because my dog was still having a hard time getting over the allergies, and I was having a hard time getting over the cold, which may have been allergies too. Whatever was going on with me ended up in a sinus infection.

My friend handed me another packet of the Mumio and told me to give it to my dog. Okay, so, word of mouth is all fine and great, but I still had to do my research. I believed her, but still… black, smelly, bitter, tar like substance? I couldn’t find anything on the internet because I didn’t know the English name of this stuff, and I only had a silver packet, not the box, very hard to read off the back of a packet. My husband, bless his heart, was able to find it for me and my friend showed me where I could purchase it a couple of days later.

Mumio has some serious micro-nutrients in it and is also used for getting rid of allergies. I dissolved one in milk and made my dog drink it once a day for two days. She wasn’t too thrilled with the taste! But at least I got two days in her, she was perkier after the second day. I’m still giving her 3-4 omega’s a day, for a 10 year old her fur has gotten so soft, and I am going to give Mumio to her once a month. Honestly, I don’t want another puppy, I love my dog and want her to live for a long time, healthy. I have a feeling the Mumio will give her the extra nutrients she isn’t getting with dog food.

I dissolved one tar like pill for me in coconut milk, plugged my nose and drank it down (now I dissolve it in warm water). After the first few days it doesn’t taste so bitter. The directions I found on it are to take it for 25-30 days with 10 days off in between. Might as well, it seems that ever since my son started school I pick up every bug out there and I’ve been know to take up to 6 vitamins a day with no success. I’m not sure my immune system has gotten a break for close to 16 years now! The way I see it I have two options–stay sick until my son graduates or see if the Mumio works. I’ve tried other products, they’ve all been really pricey and haven’t helped much, and the Mumio won’t break the bank. The Mumio won out.

The funny thing about taking this is: After the first night drinking it my body craved more. I felt like I had been starving/denying myself from nutrients for years! Now I don’t crave it as much anymore, but that’s alright, it means my bodies getting something it needs. I start sipping on the Mumio first thing in the morning as a cup of tea and finish it by noon. I tried drinking it at night, but didn’t sleep very well the two nights I drank it. I usually get hungry about a half hour after I start drinking it, and the directions say to eat 30 minutes after taking it, so I keep a snack bar available.

Along with the sinus infection, I pick up at least two a year, I noticed a light rash on my side. The sinus infection went away within 7 days, and the rash (I applied a small amount of Mumio on that in the mornings, is almost healed! Hmm… No 10 day prescription of antibiotics? No prebiotics to take with the antibiotics? No Doctors Visit? I have read that Mumio has natural enzymes that help keep the flora in your intestinal tract alive, healthy, and active. I am now moving on to week two–I need to be healthy again for longer than a week or two at a time! As week two progresses I will post.

Please Help a Fellow Author Who Has Suffered a Serious Stroke

Reblogged from Communicate Resources for Writers: http://cateartios.wordpress.com/2014/01/21/ragsappeal/

The greatest gift blogging and social networking has given me is the people I have met, some of whom are very dear to my heart. This post is an appeal to help Rags Daniels, a fellow Author who has suffered a stroke. He is in his early seventies and has a long road to recovery ahead. Obviously, he is offline, so I am asking all of you to help out by sharing / tweeting about Rags’ books and/or buy some to help him with the medical costs his family are undoubtably inundated with.

Rags is one of the few proper gentlemen left! He has the heart of a lion and has become very special to me in the months I have known him. He has given generously to charity work over many years and has also taken a child into his home to care for. If anyone I know deserves the help, he does. You just have to look at the love left on his Facebook wall to see that he’s gained a special spot in more hearts than mine… and he is an awesome writer with incredible life experience from which to draw his novels!

Please share his books on your social media accounts and/or buy a book… or two! For those of you so inclined, I am sure prayer would be welcomed. Please go to Amazon in your country and search for Rags Daniels. His book descriptions are below with links to the United Kingdom site. They come in Kindle and paperback and are perfect for crime lovers.

51oYw8O9BSL._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-arrow-click,TopRight,35,-76_SX342_SY445_CR,0,0,342,445_SH20_OU02_Lallapaloosa: October 8, 1967, ‘Che’ Ernesto Guevara was executed… Or so the world believed. Inspired by a true sequence of events, ’Lallapaloosa’ tells in flashback the story leading up to the betrayal and ‘capture’ of the worlds most famous revolutionary and master of disguise. Original, fast moving, and atmospheric to the last whiff of a Partagas cigar, it begins thirty years after the event with a series of sinister murders against a fraternity of retired mercenaries who, having fought alongside ‘Che’ in the Congo, grouped for one last mission in the jungles of Bolivia. For thirty years, Richard Strang, thought he shared the worlds best kept secret with no one. Then one summer evening, the tap of a blind man’s cane, and a nose for the toasted Cuban leaf, changed all that.

About this author:

I’m your typical reclusive author type. Anti-social in person, but I love tweeting online friends!  I love my laptop, probably a bit too much mind you. I’m a reader and enjoy finding new indie authors to follow – there are so many good ones out there!  I’m fairly new to posting reviews but I do try to be fair and honest and will not post anything less than 3 stars, as if it is not at least that good I just won’t finish it.

19-year-old twin demon trackers Shaun and Sarah Gallows are used to running into trouble – mostly the kind with fangs – but while Sarah embraces her powers to their fullest extent, trusting her instincts implicitly, Shaun distances himself from his abilities and can do little more than despair at his sister’s reckless nature and idly back her up.

A new threat surfaces in White Oaks and the twins have to neutralise it before things get out of hand, and before the Council find out. It would just be another day’s work, if Shaun wasn’t being accused of murder and Sarah wasn’t being driven to distraction by her demon…

Introducing–> Lisa Marie Gabriel

As this weeks featured Author…

I don’t have a picture or bio on her, but she has written several books. Check her out!
https://www.goodreads.com/LisaMarieGabriel

Angela Bradley’s marriage is on the rocks. She and husband Owen take a second honeymoon to try and remedy the situation, a trip of a lifetime to British Columbia, but little does Angela know that saving their marriage is the last thing on Owen’s mind. He has arranged to meet up with Ingrid and continue his affair. Whilst there Angela meets Berenice, an elegant widow of Italian descent, who is seeking to come to terms with her husband’s violent and tragic death. The two women seem inexplicably attracted to each other, but Berenice is older…. much, much older…. and she has an amazing secret or two up her sleeve! This Gothic romance novel flits from Renaissance Florence to the forests of modern day British Columbia as the story of the two women unfolds and Owen comes to a sticky end. It is suitable for adults 18+ to read as it deals with themes of vampirism, shape-shifting, death, and there is some adult content including straight and lesbian love scenes….

A collection of intense and descriptive poems inspired by nature, love and spiritual awakening, Love from the Ashes Seasons in the Fire was first published in 2006 and is being released in a new edition in paperback and on Kindle. The poet seeks within and exposes a freshness, honesty and vulnerability in writing that is both descriptive and musical. Written at a time of profound personal development, creative intensity and spiritual awakening, these poems will speak to hearts and minds alike.

In Remembrance of Future Present seems an odd title, doesn’t it? It comes from the poet’s sense of timelessness both in her life during the period these poems were written and also from a belief that all time coexists. These were poems written over an intense period of reflection. Written quickly and shared with love they reveal the workings of an inner self in a struggle to break free. In this new edition, you will find poems that rhyme and poems that don’t, poems that are sentimental and those that are descriptive. Above all Lisa’s poems display an honesty and a vulnerability together with a musicality that speaks directly to the reader.

“I am told I am old-fashioned, that my poems speak of a bygone age. I prefer to think of them as timeless? When we go within and the heart speaks perhaps it will speak a language that resonates with a time past or perhaps a time future. All I know is that I wrote myself a path out of my own personal darkness….”

An analysis of Vaughan Williams work. Part One is an analysis of the songs of Ralph Vaughan Williams, with musical examples as illustrations and is followed by Part Two, an analysis of On Wenlock Edge, a revolutionary piece of music in its time.

“”Even now we’re One Inseparable by Oceans in our bliss A whisper of the Romantic In the Eye of God…”" The first step to freedom, happiness and full self-actualization is to love ourselves with total acceptance. Without making that step we are not fully capable of loving others. This poetry is about awakening to Love. It is about full acceptance and the abundance that follows….

The Cat the Bat and the Burglar
by Colin Edward Mason, Lisa Marie Gabriel

In an era of computers, it is rare to come across truly individual picture books. The Cat, the Bat and the Burglar is a beautifully hand illustrated work by writer and artist Colin Edward Mason. He is both the author, calligapher and illustrator of this delightful book. The Cat the Bat and the Burglar draws its inspiration from illuminated manuscripts and Victorian cautionary rhymes to produce an adorable tale in verse that will delight readers of all ages. Now published for the first time on Kindle by the Realm of Photahsiamirabel, Colin hopes you will enjoy this, his first complete illustrated story. The Cat, the Bat and the Burglar is also available from Amazon in US Trade paperback and from Lulu in larger hardback and A4 comic book formats. Please be aware that illustrations are all in full colour on most devices, but some, like the older traditional Kindle and Paperwhite, will only reproduce in black and white/greyscale.

I lost all of the blogs I was following!!

That’s right! I hopped onto my blog through Blogger this morning and every single blog I followed was gone. Nothing! Nadda!! Sometimes I really hate working with Blogger and Google! I keep thinking that I will switch over to WordPress, but haven’t had the time… Well maybe now is the time. Sorry everyone, I have a major decision to make before I start following blogs again. I am going to continue to use Blogger until I make that decision, but I am Not going to start following any blogs until I decide to switch over. I Don’t want to lose the blogs I follow again.

Stupid Blogger may be more trouble than it’s worth.

Any comments on WordPress and the ease of it are greatly appreciated:)

Off The Beaten Path: Christmas Day

LOL! I’m backtracking to Christmas Day because I really wanted to get this picture up and then forgot all about it. It was a very nice afternoon on Christmas, so in-between opening presents and the big dinner get together, me, my son, and a friend of mine, with dogs, headed out for a hike on one of our many back mesa’s. We only spent about 2 hours climbing and walking, but this is one of the many pictures I took.

New Mexico is such a beautiful state:) Enjoy!

As in the picture, it’s really dry this winter and now it’s cold again. I haven’t be out on a walk the last few days because of the frigid winds, and my dog has some rough allergies. I can handle walking at 30+ degrees, but 24- is just to cold for me. Is it time to hibernate yet?
