First Novel in final editing stages

My first full length novel is in the final editing stages and is on target for an early spring release. For those who have read Edge of Hyperspace, this novel and those that follow deal with a familiar trader, Captain Ven Zaran, who was featured in 3 of the stories in Edge of Hyperspace. In Well of Dreams we pick up his story when he buys a sleek new ship, but things soon fall apart. It is the first in a long series of stories about the Zaran family.

Coming soon - Edge of Hyperspace

I'm am on the home stretch of my first short story collection, titled Edge of Hyperspace. Join me on facebook (http://www.facebook.com/srseldon) for more frequent updates and
to see the cover art. As my inspriations come from older sources, including my current read of the tales of Northwest Smith, I have gone with a slightly retro look to the cover, seemingly yellowed with age. I'm hoping everying
enjoys reading them as much as I did writing them.

Short Story Collection #1

Taking a new tack. While I work on finding the best way to publish the novel, I am putting together a collection of short stories to self-publish as an ebook. Eleven stories of space traders, customs agents and the world I have built around them. I have the stories arranged and I am working on getting them edited. I hope to have it published with Smashwords and Amazon by early November. Some of these stories take the reader into corners of my world that I don't venture into in my novels. Some directly relate to my novels.

Redraft Complete

The opening installment in the life of a space trader has gotten a facelift. It's funny how one reader's comments can hit so hard. I scrutinized each passage to remove the perception I had not intended and layer in more depth. My lead character has been transformed. Now if I had just thought through the concept a little more before I began writing back in 2002, I could have saved myself a lot of trouble. The story was always sound, but my lead character has been trying to find himself. Nine years, two more novels and four short stories later, I think I can say that he has. Now that he has found himself, it was easy to edit his first installment and make him balance on the knife edge of the conflict.

The Edits Continue

Having people read your stories is both a great and a horrible thing. I found out just how weak the opening of one story was and I have decided to get to know my character's background a little more to fix the problem. That means more writing, but not stories that I will be sharing. After a little trilogy, I'll dive in to the new opening I have in mind and do an editing pass on the whole manuscript. That should take this troublesome manuscript from "eh" to "cool", but I'll have to see what the reader's think.
