The Case for Growing Your Work Slowly
I occasionally meet people who want to manifest businesses with the snap of a finger. They feel they should be able to go from zero to 100 within a few days. They’re smart and connected and have important gifts to share, so why not? Why can’t they just be successful already?
We live in a world where overnight success is greatly admired. It’s all about ACHIEVEMENT. We adore the 15-year old sensation and pity older people who have ‘lost their prime.’
But think of a great oak tree. It’s magnificent precisely because it grew slowly over time. Not because it sprung up overnight.
I’ve had my own frustrations. I painfully think about how I’ve spent nearly the last 15 years of my life working on something… and I haven’t seen the fruits of it yet. My coach tells me to think of Van Gogh, who didn’t realize success in his lifetime.
Pardon me for the arrogance in even making the comparison. But still, I don’t want to be Van Gogh.
Here’s what I’m finally beginning to grasp: my love is the only thing that ultimately matters.
We each find our thing in life that we love, and we love it. And as we love what we love, our love creates rich soil. What we’ve grown does what it does and goes where it goes. We have no control over that.
But our love matters. And once we’re in the love, there’s nowhere else to go.

Metaphor Allows Us to Enter Mystical Realms
It’s both astonishing and brilliant how metaphor connects the human and spiritual dimensions. Metaphoric knowing not only provides a way in to shamanic realms, it also allows us to directly engage and channel those potently intelligent Source energies. Metaphor allows us to experience mystical states that we humans have only previously accessed through spontaneous and unplanned visionary experiences.
Working with metaphoric images can be wonderfully insightful, but working with the energies that come through those images has the power to change the world.
To experience the transformative power of metaphor, please check out my sessions (https://www.kimhermanson.com/doorway-sessions/) or upcoming classes (https://www.kimhermanson.com/events/)

Singing Heals my Heart
It wasn’t until I started singing that my heart began to heal.
I’m one of those people who’s taken every possible personal growth workshop imaginable, and tried every creative and therapeutic modality. I’ve taught in graduate schools of psychology and trained therapists. My PhD is in Psychology from the University of Chicago, and as a graduate student I received an Outstanding Research Award from the American Educational Research Association. My advisor was Mihaly Csikzentmihaly, founder of the field of Positive Psychology — we’ve co-authored some articles together. I lead workshops, teach in prestigious places and have done deep therapeutic work with hundreds of clients. Mihaly has called my work “pioneering.”
And with all that training and experience, this is what I know is true: Real healing is simple.
The more complex we get, the more we’re in our heads. The more theoretical and analytical, the more we’re focusing on the problem and making it worse. Singing is a shift of energy. It’s a shift of direction and focus. It’s a shift of how we are looking.
When we sing, we shift who we are BEING. For once, we’re not trying to “get somewhere.” We just ARE.
I’m not a great singer; this is not about being “good.” (Not surprisingly, judging ourselves or others doesn’t bring us to a place of healing.)
Singing is about opening my heart and simply immersing myself in joy.
And when I sing from that place of pure ‘being-ness,’ a remarkable thing happens: I receive spontaneous flashes of myself at younger ages and I’m filled with love for that person. I feel myself loving and forgiving every hurt I ever had…. every fear, terror, disappointment, shame, and sadness.
Deep loving, deep forgiving and deep acceptance… of ME. With all my flaws and insecurities.
Singing makes everything OK.

Dissolving into Something Greater than Ourselves
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWe are like soluble ink.
In order to dissolve into Something greater than ourselves, we have to let go… we have to let go of what we think, believe and know.

Listening to the Underworld
The Underworld is brilliantly intelligent and with this pandemic, it’s orchestrated so many good things. For most of my clients, they’ve silently yearned for some of these changes… less pressure on external appearances, more self care and focus, cooking meals as a family, working from home, solitude, less running around…
And aside from the lifestyle modifications, there’s been a deep, unmistakable shift in the direction of what’s genuinely important to them.
Most of us know our inner world is where true guidance and answers lie. But to really make that shift of focus? I guess many of us needed a pandemic.
The Underworld is ingenious, resourceful and wise… and NOW is the time to listen to it. In my upcoming seminar, you’ll have the chance to do that for yourself. If you work with clients, lead workshops or hold space for others, please join us.

For Depth Practitioners & Workshop Leaders: A Virtual Experiential Event
The Other side is rumbling stronger now. Underworld energies are growing louder and more intense, shifts are happening faster.
It’s clear that big healing is going on.
What have you been called to heal? Rather, what are you being called to heal, own, or embrace on a level that’s so deep it’s clear that this is not simply about you?
Perhaps it’s your ancestral lineage; perhaps it’s the divine feminine; perhaps its sacred indigenous energies that are tugging at you.
This seminar is not a training. You can learn all the techniques in the world, but if you’re not aligned with Spirit and doing the work that’s yours to do, those fancy techniques mean nothing.
Rather, this gathering is about claiming your own depth and connection with Source. Before we can facilitate that connection for others, we must fully inhabit our own inner world and follow our own inner call.
Together, we will push the wall, part the veil, and tap sacred powers that have too often been misunderstood, scorned and dismissed.
If you’ve been haunted by a vision, if there’s something you’re too afraid to look at, if you feel inadequate for the healing work that’s claimed you, please join us. It’s time to honor the call.
Everything else is noise and distraction.
Tuesday July 14th 5 – 7 pm PDT
EARLY BIRD price: $25 until June 27th, $35 after that
Note: This will be on Zoom and you can participate from anywhere in the world. If you can’t attend live, you can still register to receive the recording.
(This 2-hour seminar will serve as an introductory session for the 3-week experiential course: The Underworld is Calling Us to Heal.)

Things that are real take a lifetime to express.
Just finished reading Patti Smith’s book Just Kids. It’s been on my shelf for awhile and I’m so glad I finally got to it.
The book is very inspiring… she’s a great writer and has had a fascinating life. Her relationship with Mapplethorpe was instructive about how we can truly create space for one another to explore the edges of our passions and go places we may not go on our own. And I love that her last collaborative project with him included the film ‘Still Moving‘ that brought together all their gifts–photography, poetry, improv, art, performance. But my favorite line in the whole book was this one: “Robert dying: created silence. Myself, destined to live, listening closely to a silence that would take a lifetime to express.”
I’ve often beat myself up for things taking so long. “Why can’t I just be there already? Why am I STILL trying to define and share about this intelligence under the surface? Can’t I just stop and enjoy the fruits of my labor?”
It’s been 13 years since I was first forcefully introduced to an amazing intelligent field of energy that lies under the surface of our consciousness. 13 years since my first Psychology of Metaphor class. …and I’m STILL grappling with it, still haven’t been able to adequately convey what I’ve seen and experienced, nor been able to translate the power of it. But Patti Smith solidified the artist in me.
Artists take journeys into places that no one has ever gone. And if it’s a real journey, it will take a lifetime to express.

We’re Being Called to Stand in Our Strength
I wanted to share some of the learnings that have been coming up in Doorway sessions with my clients about the covid19 pandemic… I made a little 5 minute video of the ways my clients (and all of us) are being tested right now. It’s clearly here for us to learn from it. Here’s the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBH4YZC8lGI&t=59s
We’re all being asked (or compelled) to shift into our true power.
My online experiential event starts this Friday, April 10th: Your Deep Knowing Matters: Claiming Your Strength, Power & Intuition. Click here for info or to register: http://www.depthpsychologyalliance.com/events/your-vibration-matter…
