Inktober: Bored
We lost our minds during the fall quarantine in a small Florida town with nothing going anyway. Driving around, Chad told us he was so bored he could murder. We fed his appetite. For following the pied piper, we learned to tell time by the shadows from our cell windows.
Inktober: Bite
Julia attempted to pay for her Pumpkin Chai and Moleskine notebook at the Barnes and Noble Starbucks but a woman beside her announced she and her child were first. Julia made way. The child growled and bit Julia’s hand with razor sharp teeth. She was rushed to the hospital: Rabies.

Inktober: Candy
Ms. Linden was never bothered about state moratoriums against trick or treating due to pandemics. At night, a child’s soul would travel to her candy house where she fed on their innocence. Many years later, the grown child would feel as if there was something missing, become depressed, maybe die.

Inktober: AWOL
When James handed over a latte to a customer at the drive thru, he saw her eyes: black, no whites. She was wearing a work shirt for Halloween Horror Nights. It’s just a costume. Then she yanked him through her sunroof. No one knew what happened. James was awol.
Inktober Day 7: Pain
The pain had become familiar, more familiar than family or any potential lover she had hoped for. She tried to buy it off, buy some time, buy some relief with pills and potions. But daily its jagged fingers, brushing back her hair, entered her body with its brute, mocking laughter.
Inktober Day 6: Wings
A righteous deacon secretly believed the Lord allowed his wayward daughter to die by plague. Halloween night, despite a dark stoop discouraging trick or treaters, a gawky teen laid on the doorbell. The man yanked open the door: “What?!” Huge, dark wings unfurled. The man was plucked from the threshold.

Hulu’s Monsterland
I’m on episode 5 of Hulu’s Monsterland and I must say though it doesn’t fall into stereotypical lines of the modern horror genre, I like it all the more because of this. There have been a couple of truly crushing episodes though all are very thought-provoking. If you have Hulu, maybe you would like to check it out? Or maybe there is a free Hulu trial?

Inktober: Hungry, part 3
Me n’ JJ were panhandlin’. A bag lady yelled at us: “This is my space! Now git!” That night, Daddy said we were on the flip side of the world. Under the tarp, the rain dripping, I had a dream the lady hovered like a huge, dark angel.
Inktober: Hungry, part 2
Daddy brought home a box of cans and cartons from a food bank. Inside was a note from the president. Daddy lit a fire out back and threw the note in. Watching him through the kitchen window, Ma’s jaw dropped, but then she went back to our beans and rice.
Inktober Day 5: Hungry
Daddy showed us how to work the median at stop lights, asking for change. We worked one by Sea World coz no one was out to shoo us away. Danny fell from the curb. A car hit him and later he died. Mama never stopped crying.
