FINAL COVER FOR TAXED TO THE MAX

I'm very excited since I just got the final cover for TAXED TO THE MAX coming out in late December from Five Star/Cengage. Since it's a hardback, the cover's kind of wide. I'm hoping I can get it all in here!

Here's what it's about in case you can't read the blurb:

Auto tag clerk Corrie Caters hates the tax office. The customers are irate and her co-worker Delores is grouchy. If Corrie ever gets through college, she's waving bye-bye.
When rumored arsonist and delinquent taxpayer Billy Lee Woodhallen attacks the tax commissioner, Corrie decides to call it quits. Too late. The next morning she and Delores find their boss murdered.  Billy Lee must have done it to keep his property from being sold.
County officials want to appoint Corrie tax commissioner, but she's not that stupid. Then the man who jilted her at the altar in front of two hundred people—most of them local—shows up.  A Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent, Bodie Fairhust thinks Billy Lee will strike again and tells her to refuse the job.
Like any self-respecting north Georgia woman, Corrie won't listen to a sneaky snake-in-the-grass. She takes the job to spite Bodie. But the snake was right. Billy Lee comes up with an alibi and is free to go after the new tax commissioner. Her.
Now obtuse deputies guard her 24/7, a state auditor breathes down her neck, and a pothead IT guy is doing heaven knows what to the tax digest she's responsible for. Not to mention Delores snubbing her and the weird tax office customers trying to do all kinds of illegal things. If Billy Lee doesn't do her in, the stress will.
A light mystery, TAXED TO THE MAX shows what really happens in property tax and tag offices.

EARRINGS GIVEAWAY

Just reminding anyone who didn't see it. I'm giving away a pair of earrings this month. Anyone who posts a comment any time during the month will be entered so long as they include the word EARRINGS in the post.  Winner will be announced the first blog in November and can privately email me info re shipping address.

Here's what the earrings look like.

In SET UP, Cal loves flashy redheads with lots of makeup and dangling earrings. That's why Amanda dyed her hair, put on lots of green eyeshadow, and chose earrings that might have looked something like these.

Poor Cal took the bait, hook line and sinker!

MORNING WALK

The local art association sponsored an arts/crafts fair in Postell Park today. We got there right before the vendors opened. The old oaks and the neat tents made for pretty pictures.

This is when we were approaching, looking at it from between the trees.

This was the first section in front of the casino.

This is the back view of booths facing the sidewalk.

And this is the last section backing up to the local bar and tea shop.
Gorgeous day to be out! A shame I didn't have enough money to buy anything.

MAYO CLINIC IN JACKSONVILLE FL

We had occasion to visit the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville last week. Besides being a great medical research facility, it has a beautiful campus. I took some pictures of a few of the fountains.

Yes, the campus is beautiful but the cafeteria isn't nearly so noteworthy!

FREE EBOOK FROM AMAZON

Ugh, I really hate this marketing stuff but here goes...

Again, my steamy romantic mystery SET UP will be free from Amazon tomorrow, October 6th. If anyone hasn't read it, this is your chance.

The earring giveaway kind of ties in with it, so this is a good time for it to be free again!

And here's the link: http://www.amazon.com/Set-Up-ebook/dp/B008QWTYIS/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1349450325&sr=1-1&keywords=set+up+by+cheryl+b+dale

EARRING GIVEAWAY

Okay, today starts the earring giveaway. I won't say BIG giveaway because it obviously isn't. Just something to thank people for reading the blog.

These are some of the dangling types Cal goes for in SET UP. Amanda could have worn them when she first set out to seduce him. Or she might have worn them later, once she found out he was a really nice guy that she liked a lot.

If you're interested, enter up to one comment a day through the month of October with the word EARRINGS in it. (That's to save someone who doesn't want them from winning!) At the end of the month, I'll draw one person, tell the winner on my first November blog, and s/he can email me the specifics of where to have them mailed.

Curious about the link where they're sold? Go here: http://www.etsy.com/listing/110428222/crystal-chandelier

TECHIE STUFF

As instructed, I did my update to Apple's ios6 yesterday morning. Then I spent all afternoon trying to get my Dragonvale back. It lost my Game Center nickname -- heaven knows where that's at -- and wanted me to start a new Dragonvale game with a new nickname. So I'm to forget about all my hard-earned dragoncash and gems?????

Then I went into FaceBook to talk about my earring giveaway beginning tomorrow. Guess what? Not only can I not hit the 'like' or 'share' or 'comment' buttons on my friends' walls, but I can't even comment on mine! And getting in touch with FaceBook... Forget it. For my problem, they said to contact them. But they did not give me an email address or a telephone number to use. Oh, no. Nothing that simple for FB. They had me type in a message and hit SEND. Naturally, since nothing else I click on works, the SEND button didn't work either.

That was yesterday. Today, I went to Google and found a FB support page with a telephone number. I called. The person was foreign and we barely understood each other. We got cut off. I called back. Got a lady who also had an accent. I explained I was working with someone. She asked if I'd already paid the charge. I said "Whoa!" The other guy called back after I hung up on her. So I said again, I wasn't paying to get FB help. He thanked me and hung up.

So I went to my guy's FB page and sent them a message. Just now they answered with a canned response saying basically that they read all their bug reports but seldom answer them.

So I guess either I wait to see if it gets cleared up or I forget about FaceBook.

I try to be laid back but really....

GIVING AWAY EARRINGS IN OCTOBER!

In October, I'm excited to be giving away earrings. In conjunction with a new Etsy store, Talismanmoon, one lucky commenter will win the pair below. If interested, all you have to do is comment and include the word earrings. At the end of the month, each commenter's name will go in the hat. One comment per person per day, but each day's commenters get entered so someone could have up to 31 chances to win.

When one name is drawn, I'll announce it on the blog. That person can email me privately with shipping info.

If October's contest goes smoothly, I hope to have another one in November. If it doesn't go smoothly... Well, guess I won't.

So! To the chase! In my book SET UP, Cal loves long, dangling earrings on trashy women. Amanda isn't trashy, but she might use some like these to entrap him and knock him out. Or, when later on she realizes his devil-may-care facade hides a soft heart, maybe she wears them to seduce him. Either way, they're a lovely pair of earrings.

And, no, these aren't the actual size.  Here's the link to view the earrings in the store.

Sound Scenes

On our walk this morning, we saw a shrimper working in the Sound.
Instead of Red Sails in the Sunset, it was Silver Nets in the Sunlight!

We've had loads of butterflies in the rocks for some time now. I managed to get a shot of one. You can just see his orange color over the seagull in the middle.

And then I lucked out and caught part of a flock of them frolicking. Don't think I've ever seen as many flitting around as I have this past month!

LOCAL PAPER ITEMS

As I've said before, I love our local newspaper. Especially their Crime Scene column. It's has all kinds of interesting police reports. Mostly about people hitting somebody, like an ex-boyfriend/girlfriend scuffle. Sometimes a new boyfriend/girlfriend scuffles with the ex. Sometimes a person walks up to a stranger and hits him/her for no reason.
Yesterday, the main headline said: WOMAN SAYS VODKA BOTTLE TAKEN.
How about that? Does that grab your attention? It did mine. Reading on, I discovered the woman came home to discover the bottle missing. (And here I must wonder if she discovered it missing by immediately going to the liquor cabinet or whether she had it prominently displayed for people to admire when they first came in the door.)
Strangely, her car had been moved though it was still in the driveway. (Aha! Maybe the thief had to move it to get into the house? Maybe s/he started to steal the car and decided to pick up some refreshments while there? Maybe s/he started to drive off and realized, after imbibing, that s/he wasn't sober enough to drive? Oh, so much conjecture, so few facts!)
Nothing else was gone. (Guess the thief was addicted to vodka.)
The vodka bottle was valued at eighty dollars.
Wow. Must have been some upscale brand. Or maybe it was a really big, BIG bottle.
I do love this column!
