Website Update Roundup

How has your summer been? Ready for back to school? Still on vacation? Whatever you've been up to, I hope you've been having some fun and staying safe out there.

We've had a brief respite from the thick clouds of smoke that have been the norm this summer, but that hasn't stopped me from checking the status of nearby fires every morning and praying for the incredible men and women battling those blazes.

Smoky skies outside means more writing time indoors, and other tasks that get forgotten or...

Writing and Thoughts of Cooler Days

It's still unbearably hot and terribly smoky in Montana. Every day, the news is monopolized by how much each fire has grown, how we should expect it to get worse, and if that isn't terrible enough, how viruses continue to rage through the population. It long-ago became depressing, and I find myself more often searching for happy and triumphant stories to balance everything out.

When that fails, I retreat to another world—the Gallagher's world . . . and pictures of snow.

Long Summer Days

Long and hot summer days, flocks of tourists, and blooming gardens must mean it's the height of summer in northwest Montana, where change has become as unpredictable as the seasons.

Mountain road with snow_MK McClintock

I've kept mostly to myself, exhausted from so much going on, frustrated that my shoulder isn't healing faster, and annoyed that I do foolish things to keep it from healing faster (like dig holes for new roses). The heat keeps me inside past 10:00 am most days, but that also means more time for writing, plus catching ...

Are You Ready to Meet Cassandra and Rose McKenzie? New Release!

I'm thrilled to have you meet the McKenzie sisters! When Samantha St. Claire approached me about writing a book in the McKenzie Sisters Mystery series with her, my thoughts went back and forth between eagerness and apprehension. It was close enough in genre to most of my other westerns, yet fresh enough to intrigue me. Samantha's vision for the series, and her excitement for these unique sisters, was infectious.

The McKenzie Sisters are Coming Soon

I felt an immediate kinship with Cassandra, and in truth I did not think I could do ...

Reading Room: A SEARCH FOR REFUGE by Kristi Ann Hunter

Reading Room: A SEARCH FOR REFUGE by Kristi Ann Hunter

A captivating novella for a promising series! I came across this book during a random book-browsing session, and immediately liked the look of the whole series. I ordered book one, but wanted to give the novella a try first, and I'm glad I did since it sets a good foundation for the next book. The characters are interesting, the setting is lovely, and the story has a unique twist at the end that left me wanting more.

There are three novels and one more novella in the series (It takes me a while...

June E-Book Deal - GALLAGHER'S PRIDE

Chances are if you follow this blog you have already read the Gallagher books, but if you have yet to make their acquaintance, now is your chance! Gallagher's Pride, the book that started it all, is only $0.99 through the end of June!

Ethan Gallagher and Brenna Cameron are two of my most kindred spirits, and with every Gallagher adventure, their warmth, love, and generosity resonate through the ranch, the town, and the lives of each character. The three Gallagher siblings sparked a series that...

5 Things Cassandra McKenzie Would Say Behind Her Sister’s Back

It's not as harsh as it sounds. In truth, Cassandra and Rose McKenzie are all about family and sisterhood, and they respect and appreciate each other’s many differences. They are also both honest to a fault, and anything Casey would say behind Rose’s back she’d also say to her directly . . . well, most of it.

Of course, Quinn is the only one she’d dare say these things to because she knows he can keep a secret.

1. “Rose blows things up—a lot. I’m not even sure she knows what she’s doing half...

6 Questions for Cassandra McKenzie

You haven't met Cassandra "Casey" McKenzie yet, but you will soon when she makes her debut in The Case of the Copper King. I'm going to help Cassandra out since she'd probably lie her way through each of these questions. You'll know what I mean once you get to know her.

Are you an only child?

Cassandra: Yes

MK: No, you're not.Cassandra: I am right now.

MK: You're not on a case.

Cassandra: Then yes, I have a sister.

MK: Great, next question.

Cassandra: What about you?

MK: What about me?

Cassan...
