Budget day in Kingston, Jamaica, May 24, 2012. Finance Minister Dr Peter Phillips reads the budget in a broadcast carried live, as seen at a supermarket in downtown Kingston. His budget included a series of tax increases aimed at earning an additional (JCA) $19.3 billion in revenues. Even tourists will be expected to pay a new room tax, ranging between US2$ and US$12 per night. As with most Caricom countries the economic growth outlook remains sluggish at about 1 per cent per annum. READ more here and here.
