Love the Rain Wednesday Whimsy
I’m totally enjoying the rain in Southern California this week! There’s nothing I like better than curling up with a good book (reread Nalini Singh’s Caressed by Ice, seem to be on a binge of working my way through the Psy-Changeling series again, start to finish…) and my two cats and just savoring the cool Fall weather, accompanied by the sound of rainfall.
We need the rain out here of course, although I feel sorry for the areas that are getting too much too fast and which may have mudflows t...

But she refuses to get on the lifeboat, as there are...

Pilgrims, Turkeys and More for Wednesday Whimsy
I’ve been saving some of my Victorian 1880’s trade cards for this week because they have the
right theme. I’ve written before about being descended from Priscilla Mullins and John Alden (along with literally about 1,000,000 other people!), so I was thrilled to find the ad cards from “Alden Fruit Vinegar Company” that featured some of the family. You’ll see those further down in the post.
I like this quote from Buzz Aldrin, and wholeheartedly support his general stance that we should be returni...

Cooking Up A Storm for Wednesday Whimsy
Since next week is the American Thanksgiving holiday, which revolves around a feast and therefore lots of cooking and baking, I pulled some Victorian era trade cards that went with that theme for Wednesday Whimsy.
Of course first one has to buy the groceries.
I love this quote from Wolfgang Puck: “Cooking is like painting or writing a song. Just as there are only so many notes or colors, there are only so many flavors – it’s how you combine them that sets you apart.”
And oh boy can I relate to t...

The Lady or the Tiger Or Choose Both! Interactive Fiction
As a kid I was thoroughly exasperated when we read the short story “The Lady or the Tiger” in English lit class. You may remember the story, written by Frank Stockton in 1882 (hence my 1880s illustration!), wherein the warrior in the arena has to choose one of two doors…a Happily Ever After ending awaits if he picks the girl and he gets eaten if he picks the tiger. (I’d be listening for growls myself.) As a future romance novelist, I wanted the HEA ending, I wanted it NOW and I wanted to know...

Seashells and Mermaids Wednesday Whimsy
This week I’m showcasing some Victorian trade cards with shells and an oceanic theme…
“One cannot collect all the beautiful shells on the beach. One can collect only a few, and they are more beautiful if they are few.”Anne Morrow Lindbergh
“A beach is not only a sweep of sand, but shells of sea creatures, the sea glass, the seaweed, the incongruous objects washed up by the ocean.”Henry Grunwald
“I was all in gold sequins for Million Dollar Mermaid, 50 feet in the air.”Esther Williams (Clark Gabl...

Blowing Bubbles for Wednesday Whimsy

A sure fire method for entertaining babies is to blow soap bubbles…well, come to think of it, that works for amusing pretty much everyone! I’ve put together a fun little gathering of my Victorian trade cards around this
theme.
“Real laughter is spontaneous. Like water from the spring it bubbles forth a creation of mingled action and spontaneity – two magic potions in themselves – the very essence of laughter – the unrestrained emotion within us!” Douglas Fairbanks
“No bubble is so iridescent or...
