Mid Week Tease: "...how did I end up practically naked?” FREEFALL by Joanne Efendi #MWTease

It's MID WEEK TEASE day! If it's your first time here, the MID WEEK TEASE is a chance to read a tease from participating authors' new releases, works in progress, backlisted titles, or even flash fiction.
My Mid Week Tease turned into an End-of-Week Tease thanks to a very crazy week at the EDJ. However, I'm thrilled to share a snippet from FREEFALL, a new release by new Evernight author, Joanne Efendi.

Freefall (Santa Cruz Skydivers, 1)
by Joanne Efendi

Twenty-five year old professional skydiver Levi James has a troubled past that he just can't seem to leave behind. The main cause of his problems—his father. The billionaire Australian publishing magnate, who after being MIA for most of Levi's life, has decided Levi needs to start playing a role in the family business, whether Levi wants to or not.

Andi LaRosa, a twenty-one year old Costco cashier, comes from a loving, if somewhat suffocating, traditional Italian American family. With no direction and in a deep depression, she often seeks solace in Valium and the bottom of a Vodka bottle. That is until see meets Levi and instantly falls for his Aussie charm.

The daredevil skydiver makes her feel alive and gives her a sense of direction that she so desperately craves. But can their fledging relationship survive Andi’s personal demons and Levi’s meddling father, who refuses to his son go? The tease...
I had to get some clothes on and get out of here. I couldn’t face him like this. Sober and almost naked. But I didn’t want to move in case I woke him up. Talk about being stuck between a rock and a hard place, and believe me, in bed with him right now, I could definitely feel the hard place pressing into my thigh.Slowly, I lifted his dead arm draped over me and attempted to roll away from him, when his arm stiffened and he pulled me back into his chest.“Where do you think you are going, party girl?” he murmured in my ear, sending shivers up my spine.I looked up at him, but he still had his eyes closed.“I’m awake, in case that’s what you’re thinking. I just can’t open my eyes. I think they’re glued shut.” He exhaled and laughed at the same time. “What a night!” he exclaimed, his eyes still firmly shut. “Man, do you know how to party. I thought only Aussies could drink like that. By the way, I won. I was last man standing. Literally.”I cleared my throat. “Um… how did we end up in your bed?” My voice was rough from copious amounts of alcohol consumption. “And how did I end up practically naked?” FREEFALL is available here:Evernight Publishing / AmazonMore teases this way...Visit my teasing friends here: Have a tease to share! Mid Week Tease: "I’m trying to be a gentleman." Seducing the Rake by Raven McAllan #MWTease

It's MID WEEK TEASE day! If it's your first time here, the MID WEEK TEASE is a chance to read a tease from participating authors' new releases, works in progress, backlisted titles, or even flash fiction.
Today's tease feature is from the new release of another one of my very prolific friends, Raven McAllan!  It's an Editor's Pick!

Seducing the Rake (Cursed Treasure, 3)
by Raven McAllan

She had to pick the one rake determined to be honorable...

Cecily Birch has had enough of chinless wonders and men puffed up with their own importance to last her a lifetime. No way will she marry one of them. Not least, because she wants a marriage like her parents have—filled with love and fidelity.

Nicholas, Viscount Tilton knows he needs to marry, but the young debs he encounters leave him cold. If only the right woman would just cross his path…like the mystery lady he encounters on his way out of the capital.

When Cecily is thrown off her horse, and wakes up in the arms of Nick, things get truly interesting, especially as she has no memory of who she is—only that she wants Nick.

Nick, on the other hand is determined to stay honourable—if only they could keep their hands off each other.
The tease...
“You heard me. Once upon a time, I might well have taken you up on your words. Indulged myself and taught you what works well between a man and a woman. However, I have more values these days. I will not deflower a virgin.” He grinned. “Well, not until we both know who she is.”“How do you know I’m a v…virgin?” Mystère stumbled over the word. If nothing else it proved to Nick his theory of her chasteness was correct.“Either a virgin or you should be wooing the crowd in Drury Lane, my dear. Your innocence shines like a beacon. Oh I know you’ve teased me, and I you, and your interest is more than tempting. However, you don’t know where the line not to cross is, or even what it is. I both know and will not cross it. Not yet.”She muttered something under her breath. Nick judged that by the look on her face it was directed at him and wasn’t complimentary. He chose not to ask Mystère to repeat herself.“What if that never happens?” Her voice quivered. However so did her lips, and Nick hid his own grin. Definitely Drury Lane. Were any of the actresses missing?“I might grow old and shriveled up, and still be like this,” Mystère said and gave a large heaving sigh. “Here, with you, untouched…never to experience the feel of a man…”“Enough,” Nick said hastily. Really, did she know how aroused she made him? How he wanted to take her in his arms and tell her there was nothing to worry about, he’d do anything she wanted. Which was so unlike his normal self, he almost shook his head. “I’m sure it won’t come to that.”“But you don’t know.”True enough. Nevertheless. “I am reasonably sure you’re not local, are well born, and before long someone will be wondering where you are.”“And then it will be too late,” Mystère said mournfully. “I’ll be taken away, and never see you again.” She pressed her chest against his. Each breath she took rubbed her breasts up against him. Nick had a hard time containing his pego in his pantaloons and holding his inclination in check.“No never. And stop that, it isn’t right. I’m trying to be a gentleman, it’s damned hard, and whatever you say, you’ll thank me for it later.”“How do you know? Any of it.”“Because you’ll come to me as yourself, with all your wits about you, freely and openly. I promise I will find you and ask.”“Dammit, I want you now.” She tapped a rhythm on the chair arm with her fingers. “Now, not maybe, sometime.”“I know.”“Argh.” Mystère got to her feet and paced the room. “I have to be in the hands of the only person who admits to being a rogue with gallant tendencies. Why me? Why couldn’t I have fallen off my horse before a proper rogue? One who would show me all the things I need to know. Want to know, and have no way of knowing. Life is not fair.” Find The Cursed Treasure Series on AllRomance eBooks (All Evernight books are 25% at ARe through Friday!) and most major online book retailers.More teases this way...Visit my teasing friends here: Have a tease to share! Mid Week Tease: "Your move, gorgeous." Exclusive Access by Ravenna Tate #MWTease

It's MID WEEK TEASE day! If it's your first time here, the MID WEEK TEASE is a chance to read a tease from participating authors' new releases, works in progress, backlisted titles, or even flash fiction.
Today's tease feature is from the new release of my very prolific friend, Ravenna Tate! I love The Weathermen series and I know you will too. It's the perfect series to binge read on a rainy day like today.

Exclusive Access (The Weathermen, 4)
by Ravenna Tate

Reporter Julianne Wallis hasn’t stopped thinking about Kane Bannerman since she seduced him to get a story five years ago. Now she’s back for a second story, but this time she wants more than sex from Kane. She wants the secret he is hiding.

Kane is part of a group of friends financing the efforts to put a stop to The Madeline Project. The program now has a mind of its own, thanks to a virus called Tommy Twister. These men have power, resources, and money, but they’re as ruthless and possessive as the storms ravaging Earth.

They call themselves the Weathermen…
The tease...
“What?” She was hallucinating. That was the only logical explanation. Was the man even human?“I asked what you’ll give me in return. I’ve given you two stories, and you’re naked with your wrists tied together. What do I get out of this?”“A naked woman tied up in your bed.”He shook his head. “Not good enough. If I do what you want, what will you do for me?”She narrowed her eyes as shivers ran up and down her spine. Decadent images raced through her mind. Exactly how kinky was Kane Bannerman? “What do you want?”He brushed a hand up one thigh and down the other, and Julianne couldn’t stop the moan in time. The smug grin he gave her should have angered her, but all it did was fuel her excitement. “Are you sure you want to know?”“Yes!” He was torturing her with the mere promise of sex.Kane flipped her onto her stomach before she could do more than let out a breath. He caressed her ass cheeks, and then he smacked each one, hard. “This is what I want. You, over my knee, taking a good, old-fashioned spanking because you are such a damn brat, Julianne. When my hand gets tired, I have a paddle to use on your lovely round ass.”He covered her body with his and turned her face sideways toward his. She had to struggle to take a full breath because she was so aroused she could barely think. His beautiful eyes blazed with desire. “After I spank you and paddle you hard enough to thoroughly punish you for what you’ve done to me, I will fuck you. I will fuck you hard and rough. I will fuck your pussy, your delectable mouth, and your very pretty ass.”Kane kissed her, shoving his tongue into her mouth, but just as quickly released it, leaving her wanting so much more. “That’s what I want. Your move, gorgeous.”Find The Weathermen Series on AllRomance eBooks and most major online book retailers.More teases this way...Visit my teasing friends here: Have a tease to share! Mid Week Tease: Good Karma and Airport Hookups on #MWTease with @LilaShaw

Welcome to another MID WEEK TEASE! If it's your first time here, the MID WEEK TEASE is a chance to read a tease from participating authors' new releases, works in progress, backlisted titles, or even flash fiction.
I'm continuing last week's tease from a free read series I co-wrote with Lila Shaw called Second Chance Layover. Last week, we found reporter, Charli Tierney, stuck at the airport and her boss just gave her an assignment to find a friend on a match app called Meet-And-Go. Today we meet Cal...

SECOND CHANCE LAYOVER
by Sandra Bunino & Lila Shaw

When the mother of all snowstorms strands journalist Charli Tierney in the Chicago airport, her boss gives her a fluff assignment to kill time–investigate the Meet-And-Go dot com social network for airport travelers. Imagine her surprise when her connection is also one of her brother’s old friends…and the boy she crushed on for years as a teen.
Cal Wheaton is no less shocked. Of all the fish in the sea, or lonely travelers in Terminal B, his O’Hare Meet-And-Go connection is Charli. The snarky little sister he fondly remembers has grown into a very desirable woman. And this time there’s no protective big brother around to keep him in line.

Reconnected, the embers of Charli and Cal’s decade-old attraction are quickly fanned into a night of hot passion. But when a ghost from Cal’s past drives a wedge between them, will the layover lovers realize in time that blame and guilt are baggage best left behind?
The tease...

Cal~
With the press of a keystroke, I alerted the other bored and lonely travelers of O’Hare that BBJD was in the building. My location within the airport, I left blank. No point making myself a bluelight special before vetting out the clientele. Clingy, needy women were not my thing; neither was a quick, anonymous fuck in an airport. God knew I'd never been that desperate to get off.

Instantly, a list of screen names popped up—Anonymous, BabsAtLarge, Chartier, DaveS, FlyMeBaby, LonelyInIL, Sam, Sheila, WetNWild, and on and on. At least twenty screen names, ranging from the provocative to the mundane, filled my smart phone’s window. I scrolled through them and clicked on Chartier who had classified herself as a 25-35 female. Best to stick with my own age range, I supposed. She also claimed to be from the same part of the country as myself. We would have at least one thing to talk about…if I contacted her.Maybe later.

A familiar antsiness took over and propelled me to my feet.

I walked the full length of my terminal. Twice. The adjoining terminal received an equally thorough tour until bored, I returned to my assigned gate. The faces hadn’t changed much during my absence.

My smart phone alerted me to a message. Meet-And-Go.com filled the sender window, “Someone wants to meet you” occupied the subject line. I clicked open the notification expecting my someone to be WetNWild or LonelyInIL Instead Chartier pleasantly surprised me by making contact. The link provided took me back to the website and into my inbox.

Hi. I’m here in O’Hare and my flight is delayed. Isn’t everyone’s? Never done this before so am not familiar with any Meet-And-Go.com etiquette. Saw your listing and noticed we’re both from the same part of NY. Message back if you want to chat over coffee.

Hmm. Was it karma that the one other person whose link I clicked was the one who happened to contact me? I was due some good karma for a change.

Mid Week Tease: Second Chance Layover with @Lila_Shaw #MWTease

Welcome to another MID WEEK TEASE! It's starting to get chilly here in the Northeast and the holidays will be here before we know it. Today's tease is from a free read series I wrote with Lila Shaw called Second Chance Layover. It was great fun to write and I hope you enjoy this little tease!

I snapped open my suitcase and pulled out my laptop from a padded interior pocket before making a second call. After powering up, I switched back to my phone and scrolled to “Master of My Universe” in my contacts. With a chuckle, I hit the ‘Send’ button.Henry picked up on the first ring. “I thought you were on vacation?”I snorted. “Vacation is planting my ass in the sand with an umbrella drink. I’m going to the Tierney family ski condo, also known as hell. Let’s just say I'm on an anti-vacation.” “Okay then, I thought you were on your anti-vacation.” His voice was flat, but I'd bet the store his mouth wore a hint of a smile. “I’m stuck in another type of hell: O’Hare Airport. But good news, I have my laptop. Give me an assignment.”Papers shuffled in the background, probably the ‘fluff piece’ pile on the corner of his desk. “Ah, I got something here. I was going to give it to Tiffany, but it’s perfect for your situation. There’s this website called Meet-And-Go dot com where you can meet random strangers at the same place such as airports, bars, museums, parks, whatever. Go on and see if you can hook up with someone at the airport.”My eyes widened. “Hook up with someone at the airport? What? Are you pimping me out now, Henry?” I grinned picturing old Henry turning a deep shade of red.  “Not ‘hook up’ as in ‘hook up’. Go find a friend, Charli, then write about it. I’ll run the story as a human-interest piece. We need some fluff pieces next week. There’s always a lull between Christmas and New Years.”“When am I going to get something with real meat?” I had paid my dues in research and editing. I was ready, but convincing everyone else was the challenge.
“Let’s see what you do with this, and we’ll talk after the New Year. Merry Christmas, Charli.” Click.

MID WEEK TEASE: “Just don’t bleed" EMBER by Stephanie Bedwell-Grime #MWTease

The tease is on and I have a great one for you today from Stephanie Bedwell-Grime's new release, EMBER.
Don't you love the beautiful cover from artist Jay Aheer? EMBER is part Sci-Fi, part Fantasy, and part Paranormal. Oh yes, Ember is a vampire! I love vampire romances and I think you'll love this one.  On with the MID WEEK TEASE...
EMBER
by Stephanie Bedwell-Grime

As a vampire, Ember has carved out a peaceful existence on an arid planet orbiting a dying sun. His life is changed forever when a survey pod carrying a human woman crashes in his territory.

Galactic explorer, Danika, has been on a scientific mission studying unusual worlds. Her handsome, yet enigmatic rescuer seems determined to keep her hidden, but she doesn’t know why.

Ember is harboring a warm-blooded human woman on a planet full of starving vampires. If he can’t get her off-world quickly, she’ll be hunted by the entire population.

Here's the tease...
“Are you a danger to me, Ember?”
He stared at her with those unnerving silver eyes. “Yes. But I’m also your only hope of getting off this planet alive.”
His honest declaration sent a shiver creeping down her spine. What predator came right out and said they were dangerous? Didn’t most try to charm their prey? The fact that he admitted it, though––that made her feel a bit better.
He was out in the ruins trying to hide her instead of sitting in his comfortable house. He’d said it was his duty to protect her. He’d promised to help her. She thought of the barren landscape outside and the hordes of vampires chasing them. He was right. He was her only hope of escaping in one piece.
Danika stared back at the man before her. He’d just confessed to being not entirely a man. Aside from those unnerving eyes, he looked every bit a man. He had broad, muscled shoulders and arms. His torso tapered nicely to slim hips and strong legs. She couldn’t deny her attraction to him. Under other circumstances, she would have definitely been interested. If he hadn’t just confessed to wanting to drain her of blood…
She was in good shape, but she no doubt with all that muscle he’d be a lot stronger. Not to mention that her very presence tempted him. There must be something. Some scent she could wear to lessen that temptation.
That thought dissipated as he leaned toward her. One moment her brain was blaring a warning and in the next her good sense had drifted away. Her gaze snapped to Ember’s full lips. The tip of his tongue darted out, moistening them and she couldn’t help wondering if they would feel as feather-soft as they looked. Her own lips parted as he drew closer and her eyelids fluttered closed. She waited for the first brush of his lush mouth against hers, but instead he seemed to catch himself. His hands closed on her shoulders, pushing her gently, but firmly away from him.
Danika jolted to her senses. He’d just acknowledged his compulsion to drink her blood and she’d almost let him kiss her. She couldn’t allow that to happen again. She cleared her throat. “Is there anything I can do to make myself less…desirable to you?”
Her choice of words brought a brief smile to his lips. It was a disarming smile, she decided as he gave her a quick once-over. He seemed about to say something, but the smile swiftly disappeared as if he’d changed his mind. His gaze centered on the gash on her head. “Just don’t bleed,” he said at last.

Game on. Style me!

I tried something new this month...

While at a work conference in California, I heard about this new online styling service. I loved the concept so I thought, why not? Game on. Style me!

There are a few of these types of companies out there, but the one I chose was Stitch Fix, a San Francisco based company.  They make it simple and fun to sign up. You simply complete a survey letting them know your style tastes and preferences, and of course, sizes. Then for a nominal fee, a stylist chooses and sends five items for you to try. You pay for the items you keep and return the ones you don't want. The fee is credited toward your purchase and you receive a discount if you keep all five items. You can even choose how often you receive a Stitch Fix box.

Okay, ready to see what my stylist chose? Here we go...

19 Cooper Rosetta V-Neck Top, green printThe 19 Cooper top felt great on but it was a little too boxy for me. I also wasn't sold on the print. [RETURNED]

Market & Spruce Bernadette Lace Overlay Raglan Top, teal/blackI liked the teal since it pushed me beyond my black/gray/white "go to" colors and the lace was a nice detail. However, the black sleeves reminded me of my high school softball jersey. [RETURNED]

Liverpool Anita Skinny Pant, blackOkay, so I pulled these pants from the box and thought: No way. They're too skinny! I usually opt for a curvy cut pant. But I tried them on and LOVED THEM! The fabric is soft and it has a nice give to them so you don't have to do the shimmy and squeeze dance to get them on. [KEEPER]

RD Style Carissa Airy Knit Cardigan, black It's hard to get an idea of what this looks like from this picture, so I took one while wearing it so you can see the best part - the fringe! Fringe is "in" this season and it was one of my requests when ordering. I love this sweater and it goes with everything - jeans, khaki or gray skirt, dress pants, you name it.

Yup, this baby will get lots of wear this fall. [KEEPER]

I saved my least favorite item for the end...

Shiraleah Lee Fringe Hobo Bag, blackThe bag.

I know the stylist was trying to fulfill my fringe request, but this bag was not at all for me. [RETURNED]

Out of the five items, I only purchased the pants and sweater. Returns are super easy. I just slipped the other three items into the supplied postage paid envelope and popped it in the mail.

Another great perk from Stitch Fix is their styling sheet. It included a note from the stylist and different options for the items in the shipment...

Even though I wasn't thrilled with everything in the box, the quality was fantastic. Overall, it was a great experience and I'm already looking forward to October's box.

Note: I've received no perks or benefits from Stitch Fix for this unsolicited and honest review of my experience.

Mid Week Tease: It’s not too late for your SUMMER CRUSH with @SashaHibbs

It’s the last Wednesday of August. How did that happen? If you’d like to  stretch your summer to the very end, join me in a sweet SUMMER CRUSH!

SUMMER CRUSH is a collection of wonderfully romantic stories written by today’s hottest YA authors. Here’s a *SURPRISE* tease from one of my favorite YA authors, Sasha Hibbs. Here story, Sutton Summer, headlines this fantastic box set of YA Romance.

SUMMER CRUSH

Summer is the time for lazy days at the beach, sun-kissed hair, flip-flops, and sizzling nights with a new crush.  Those stolen glances and first kisses can quickly spark a flame. However, the road to love isn’t always a smooth ride.

Every Summer has a story, whether it’s a second chance on love, seeing a friend in a different light, or taking a step in a new direction with someone special. Love and long days create endless possibilities, but can a summer crush really last?

The Tease from Sutton Summer by Sasha Hibbs:

Wiping off the counter, McKenzie caught a glimpse of Abigail sashaying up to Dylan’s counter. McKenzie looked away as Abigail was planting a kiss on him. She could deal with it, but she wasn’t going out of her way to watch it any more than necessary. A thought pricked her in the mind. Would’ve Abigail been this interested in Dylan last year as what she seemed to be this summer? But then that rational voice grabbed hold of McKenzie, the one she didn’t like to hear. It told her that she was no different. She looked at Abigail and couldn’t help but feel how shallow she was, but then again, McKenzie had been no better. Funny how things could change so drastically in the course of one year, inside and out.

“Hey, Kenz?” McKenzie’s head snapped up in Dylan’s direction. He hadn’t called her by that nickname since last summer, pre-disaster.

“Yes?”

“Cover for me? Ten minutes?” Dylan asked, hopping over the counter in an all too cool way landing perfectly on the other side.

As McKenzie watched Dylan swoop up a squealing red bikini clad Abigail, she answered, “Yep.”

Dylan’s side of the office was vacant, all the boaters that were going to rent already had for the day. But as she watched Dylan and Abigail run down to the shore and jump into the lake, McKenzie’s line was stacking up.

Ten minutes her butt! While Dylan and Abigail were frolicking in the lake, McKenzie spent the last forty five minutes serving Skittles, nachos, and coke to a line of hungry kids. From across the counter she heard Dylan’s phone ring.

Maybe it was her Aunt Jenny.

McKenzie ran through the door over to Dylan’s side. Snatching the phone up, she recognized her Aunt Jenny’s number flash across.

“Hello,” McKenzie said. “Hello….”

Shoot! She’d just missed her. McKenzie slid the off button to get to the home screen to call her back when she froze in place.

McKenzie stood there, paralyzed by the image on Dylan’s home screen flashing up at her.

It couldn’t be….

After all her painful words, ones she’d regretted since they slipped off her tongue, Dylan still kept the picture of her he took all those long months ago.

Shaking herself out of her stupor, McKenzie quickly laid his phone down and ran back to her side of the office.

Her mind was racing. What could that mean? Did Dylan still care for her? In that way? Did he feel the way about McKenzie as he apparently felt about Abigail? Why else would he have saved her picture? Was there hope?
