Campaign Game - What's On Your Nightstand?
Hi All! I know I normally have a live. laugh. love themed post on Friday's, but since it's campaign time, I'm going to break the pattern a bit.
Last campaign we played some fun get-to-know you games in the first week. This go-round I thought it would be fun to find out what books are on everyone's nightstand. I don't mean your to-be-read list (though those books may be what's on your nightstand) but more, the books you always have to have by you, just for inspiration, for reference, for the love of reading over and over...that kind of thing.
Here is exactly what's on my nightstand right now:
1. Love Poems by Pablo Neruda
2. Oppression by me (Haha...I know, I have my own freaking book on my nightstand. Kind of funny. I just got the final copy in the mail yesterday. Can you blame me?)
3. Blood Red Road by Moira Young
4. Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater
5. No Greater Love by Mother Teresa
What's on your nightstand?
Post the list of books on your blog and leave a link in the comments for people to stop by and check them out.

Rachael Harrie's Fourth Writers' Platform-Building Campaign
Hello fellow campaigners! I'm so happy it's time for another campaign! Yippeee! If you've never heard of this fantastically marvelous idea, let me enlighten you...
What is the Campaign?
Basically, the Campaign is a way to link those of us in the writing community together with the aim of helping to build our online platforms. The Campaigners are all bloggers in a similar position, who genuinely want to pay it forward, make connections and friends within the writing community, and help build each others' online platforms while at the same time building theirs.
As the Campaign kicks off, you'll have the names and blog addresses of the Campaigners on my List of Campaigners page , so you can keep in touch with the other Campaigners. That way you'll have a list of bloggers in the same position as you, who genuinely want to help you succeed. And you'll be able to meet those who have the most in common with you. You can visit their blogs and other places they haunt, follow along, leave comments galore, and share your highs and lows as you journey through the blogosphere and build your online platform. And they'll be doing the same for you.
If you want to find out a bit more about past Campaigns, check out the info I've included here .
Yes. I will be joining! Will you?

Writing World: Hello February
Hello February! I've been waiting for you…
My debut novel, Oppression, comes out this month! I can't believe I can finally say that. It felt like February would never come. These next 27 days are going to be excruciatingly long…in a good way. It sort of feels like the first day of December when I start counting down to Christmas (I'm a sucker for Christmas).Though release day is still 27 days away, ARCs (Advanced Reader Copies) of Oppression have been distributed. Yes. People are reading it RIGHT NOW. It's a crazy feeling. I really love the idea of ARCs. It's fun to let people in on the book before it hits the market. I feel like I'm sharing a really good secret. Thanks to all of you ARC readers out there. I appreciate it and hope you are enjoying Oppression! To celebrate the first day of release month I wanted to reveal the back cover of Oppression. Some of you may have already seen it, but for those who haven't…here it is! I absolutely love it.
Click the photo for a bigger image.
Also, as a reminder, if you want to sign up for the Virtual Launch Party for Oppression or the Blog Tour, there is still time! Click here to sign up for the launch party or here for the blog tour. Thanks!
What are you looking forward to this month?

The Buzz: The Perks of Being a Wallflower MOVIE
WHAT?! The Perks of Being a Wallflower is being made into a movie. Crazy, right? Crazy awesome!
Honestly, I have a terrible memory. I don't recall a lot of the details in this book (which, rumor has it...are a little risqué) but it did have a significant impact on my life for two reasons.
1. I was a teenager relating to a fellow teenager.2. It referenced amazing novels, T.V. show, movies and most importantly MUSIC that I had never come across.
Source Here are some of those references:
Literature Music To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee Asleep by The Smiths A Separate Peace by John Knowles Scarborough Fair by Simon and Garfunkel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald Time of No Reply by Nick Drake The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger Dear Prudence by The Beatles
Daydream by The Smashing Pumpkins
Blackbird by The Beatles
Landslide by Fleetwood Mac
Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana
Something by The Beatles To me, the idea of referencing pop culture in a book like that was genius, and now that I'm a writer, I think it's even more genius. It gives the reader such a great picture of who the character is. My first draft of Oppression had tons of references to poems and music, but ultimately ended up being cut. Still, whenever I hear Asleep by The Smiths, I'll always think of this book.
I'm so curious to see how the movie turns out, especially since I can't remember many of the details. I'll be able to relive the whole story again in a new way. Not to mention, Hermione is in it! That's right, Emma Watson, will be playing the role of Sam. For more details on the movie, coming out sometime this year, visit IMDB.

The Buzz: Prince Albert and the Doomsday Device

This book was so much fun to read. I've never read steampunk before, but I've wanted to for a long time. For me, this was a great intro to the genre. The story was imaginative, and I was carried away by the adventure. The characters, action, and mystery device completely won me over. Jack, Prince Albert, and the PRG made for a great team that had me laughing along the way. I hope you enjoy it as well!
Did I mention it got a Kirkus Starred Review? Read it here.
Book Details
Title: Prince Albert and the Doomsday DeviceAuthor: Clive LondonGenre: SteampunkPublisher: ZOVA BooksLength: 306 PagesGoodreadsAmazonBarnes & Noble
Book Description
Jack has been wondering about the disappearance of his father for over a year now. Tucked away in the remote village of Rothchild, all the children have been living on their wits since their parents were carted away by order of the Queen. When a passing stranger entrusts him with stabling his horse for the night, Jack takes the opportunity to ride as fast and far as he can out of town and toward London. His plan is to find his father, but with no money and little knowledge of the world, he finds danger and adventure instead. It doesn't help that the closer he comes to finding his father, the closer he comes to uncovering a ruthless plot to overthrow the monarchy. What begins as a simple journey quickly turns into a swashbuckling adventure of epic proportions as Jack is joined by none other than Prince Albert himself. With the help of the Prince's royal bodyguards and Jack's own scrappy courage, they just might be able to uncover the truth of the plot against the throne, Jack's missing father, and the mysterious Doomsday Device that threatens them all.

Live.Laugh.Love...those precious moments
So, I've been a Friday blog post slacker. I completely missed last week due to more time with my little nieces. They have a way of taking over. Nothing gets done when they're around. The world, time, everything just ceases to exist, and I turn into a baby-talking, baby-chasing, goofball. The best part about these visits with my sweet baby girls is that I am getting to see them learn and change and grow into little humans. I'm starting to realize that I'm having full blown conversations with the two-year-old niece Cadence. In my head, I'm thinking, aren't you a baby? How do you know what I'm saying? She's growing up too fast...at least she still believes in monsters.
Here's her obsessing after watching Monsters Inc. It's not a very exciting video for anyone but me. Still...I thought I'd share.
