Becoming an adult

Today is my blog’s 21st birthday, the age at which it is meant to attain adulthood.

I hope it never does.

I hope it never learns to accept all the norms that society expects it to adhere to.

I hope it never disparages childlike enthusiasm.

I hope it never loses its naivety.

And I most fervently hope that it never assumes that “it knows best”.

Should be in for a quiet night I reckon.

Stopping on Oreton Scar near Penrith on the way home.

And relax…

Nice stop off at what’s becoming a regular, Inveruglas.

Modern warfare vs old skool Putin?

The video’s a bit naff but I have often said “Why go to all that expense and trouble of invading us – just take out a few supermarket and distribution mainframes and we’ll be fighting each other for food outside Tesco”

It occurred to me that that same course of action is open to us in reverse to force bullies to be accountable to their own people. Invading other countries just seems old fashioned.

As does our way of responding to it. I’ve been lucky enough to meet some pretty terrifying geeks over the years, and I have also met lots of ex military who’ve made careers in cyber. I know who I’d rather have on my side.

It’s a bit like the British Army struggling to cope with the Boers because they wouldn’t line up in straight lines and fight properly!

Sgurr a’ Mhàim

A cracking hill in outstanding weather with my good friend Edwin van de Bospoort, over from Holland, for company. Couldn’t have been better.

Well it might have been if I’d fancied The Devil’s step and three more Munros but I know my limits.

Lots of piccies. Hope you enjoy them.

Me with Ben Nevis in the background. Edwin on the way up with Stob Bàn in the background. Edwin at the top Me, heading for the top. These were our footsteps looking back up to the top as I made my way down. The Devil’s Ridge that I gave a miss. Looking down towards Fort WilliamPretty walk back up Glen Nevis to the van.

Nice view…

Stopped for a break on the way north with Beinn Dorain looking grand from the comfort of the van.

Munro bagging

In anticipation of today’s trip up to Scotland I’ve been updating the list of Munro’s that I have climbed. My canonical record, an older edition of The Munros, The Scottish Mountaineering Club Guide, has some older names and some of the hills have now been classed as two separate Munros.

I’ve just updated my Walk Scotland page, mapping old names to new ones and taking into account the routes I took up what I thought were single Munros but which, given that I traversed both “tops” have now become two!

Anyway here’s the up to date list.
