Excuse me, read the book. The author intervenes on VARIOUS occasions telling what they changed and why. There was an original version that droned on about seemingly useless details that Morgenstern wrote about. The author bridged this original book and made it more enthralling by cutting out meaningless ramblings.
Honey, I have a first edition of the book.
And the audio book. And the 25th and 35th anniversary edition. And I run a blog about the lasting cultural impact of The Princess Bride. You really think I’m not going to know this?
Hate to burst your bubble, but there is no S. Morgenstern. William Goldman is the sole author of The Princess Bride. There is no unabridged version. It’s all a joke and a trick to let him skip to more exciting action in the story.
Do some research. I dare you to find the “original” version. Seriously, it’s a rite of passage for every big fan of The Princess Bride novel to do a fruitless search for the “unabridged” version.
Simon Morgenstern is supposed to be from one of the countries in the book, but countries by the name of Florin and Guilder have never existed. They’re obsolete currencies.
It doesn’t exist. Tell your teacher. You might even get extra credit.
PS - if you request the “reunion scene’ mentioned in the book, you get a few pages on why a court battle prevents its distribution. This is part of the joke. Those pages ARE the reunion scene, there’s no other version of that either.
