Weathering the Storm…

I have no idea why I named this post “Weathering the Storm”…I think it just sounded cool.

Anyway, in all fairness, that’s what I feel life is like at the moment. I’ve been trying for balance from the second I published Caged, but, nearly ten months later, I still haven’t achieved it. Most of you know that I run a health care office with my husband, and that we also have a toddler. They both consume a lot of my time and energy (in a good way), but that doesn’t leave a lot to channel toward writing, editing, marketing, etc. My friends think I’m superwoman, and, maybe I am, but I don’t feel like it. I feel tired :) I’ve put a lot of thought into how to remedy this situation and I think I may have found a way to help, at least for now.

I have an amazing husband who has always believed in my crazy ideas, like: let’s but a century old home and remodel it ourselves, or I’m going to publish a book, or I’m going to die my blonde hair CRAZY dark before our wedding… He’s a patient soul :) We’ve been trying to come up with ways to free up my time so that I can better balance my two careers without cutting into my family life. The solution we’ve come up with is me taking an afternoon off of the practice. Yes, a WHOLE four hours of uninterrupted writing time! I have yet to implement this change, but it’s going to be put into action soon. Very soon.

Now, what does this mean for you? I have no clue, but it should mean more solid release dates and a better mapped out release schedule in the long run. I’m aiming for 3 novels a year with a novella in there too. Ambitious? Yes. Doable? Of course…I’m a type A. I can do ANYTHING if someone tells me I can’t! (Can someone please tell me I can’t lose five pounds? Please?)

So, I look forward to wearing my author hat with more consistency and getting a feel for whether or not it’s something I could don for years to come. I really love writing, but, if I can’t find a way to seamlessly integrate it into my life, I fear I will burn out from the stress. I don’t want that any more than you do. I have stories to tell, crazies to get out of my head, and supernatural worlds to explore.

Let’s hope this half-day off is enough to make this all happen :)

Barnes and Noble/Kobo Debacle

First, let me say that I’m beyond frustrated at this moment. It has been four days since SCARRED went live on Amazon, and it is STILL not available on other sites. I’ve emailed and done all I can do, so now…we wait. And wait. And wait. I will be sure to post any news and update you on Scarred’s status.

In the meantime, if you can’t wait any longer, go to Amazon and access the Cloud Reader to purchase it there. I have no clue how long it could be before either of the two derelict sites gets it together :(

Scarred Release Day Reminder…

Just a quick reminder that Scarred will be hitting Amazon, Kobo, and Barnes and Noble on September 24th. I can’t be certain as to what time of day they’ll be available; I’m at the mercy of those companies as far as that goes. However, I do my best to time it so that they’re able to be purchased at some point on release day.

So mark your calendars, email your friends, and post it on the five thousand different media sites you’re a member of! SCARRED IS COMING…and it’s taking no prisoners. Operation “Top 100″ is in FULL effect, and I think we can make it happen :)

Tempted by Evil Contest Winners…

Congrats to Kendell Piller and Kristy Atkinson! They have been chosen to help beta for my upcoming YA release, Tempted by Evil, co-written by Shannon Morton.

We have also chosen two winners to read the second book in the series when it comes out. Congrats to Sarah Lavalle and Selina Maeder.

We will open another contest up for the third and final novel in the series when it’s release is closer. Thanks to everyone who participated! It was SOOOOOOO hard to choose (which should be obvious by us choosing four winners instead of one).

FINAL SCARRED TEASER…

THE PROLOGUE!!!!!  Enjoy :)

A familiar sweat covered my body.

My head throbbed, limbs quaked, heart pounded. There was only a single reason my body acted that way. It meant one thing and one thing only.

While my mind reeled from what I’d just seen, the contents of my stomach found themselves all over my floor.

Another woman dead.

A corpse in white―wedding white.

He’d decorated her face with her blood, carefully―meticulously―painting her cheeks and lips with a delicate touch before turning his cold, dead stare on my mind’s eye.

“You cannot escape me, my love,” he’d told me, running his nose along the bride’s jaw―fearsome eyes still pinned on me. I wretched again. “You will be mine, and mine alone. I will have you or no one will.”

His message had been painfully clear: join him or die.

Alone, in the darkness of my room, I exhaled a fuck-my-life sigh, acknowledging out loud, if only to myself, what I’d long feared. My reprieve was gone. My normal life interrupted. My crazed courtier returned.

“He’s back.”
