A College Audience Appreciates Author’s Advice

A great article, “A Morning with Hanna Perlstein Marcus,” by Mitchell Maknis of the The Tamarack, the campus newspaper of Naugatuck Valley Community College about my appearance at the college Writers’ Conference. I couldn’t find a more interested and enthusiastic audience of future writers! Check it out here!

Author Tells Her Immigrant Story

Hartford Courant reporter, Steve Smith, attended the National Book Launch of Surviving Remnant at the Rockville, CT Public Library and wrote a fine recount of the author’s presentation. My humble thanks to Steve Smith. You can see the full article here.

Historic Classical – October 1, 2017

Hanna will appear at Historic Classical, a museum devoted to commemorating the 100 year history of Classical High School. Join her for an author talk at the Classical Condominiums, 235 State St., Springfield, Ma, the former home of Classical High School, for an interactive discussion of her books, Sidonia’s Thread and Surviving Remnant, both of which take place in Springfield. Her memoirs recount her upbringing by her single mother and Holocaust survivor, Sidonia, and her hapless search for a father figure among the immigrant refugees who congregated Springfield’s North End.

If you come from Springfield, you won’t want to miss this talk! As a Classical High School graduate, I can’t wait to see you!

Yom HaShoah, 2017

Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, will begin at sundown on Sunday, April 23 and continue until sundown the next day. Before World War II, many members of the Klein family, my grandmother’s relatives, lived in the northeast corner of Hungary, near the Slovakian border. Most of them resided in little villages where cameras and photography studios were nonexistent. This family, that of my great great uncle, lived in a slightly larger town, where individuals and families could dress in their fine clothing and enter the photographer’s world of mirrored reality. So here is the only photograph I will ever own of any of my ancestors, given to me by my cousin, Melanie. All of them but one were lost in the Shoah.

Thanks to Naugatuck Community College

Thanks to everyone at Naugatuck Valley Community College in Waterbury, CT. It was a great experience for me to meet all the aspiring student writers! I hope I imparted some valuable knowledge to help them further their writing careers. Special thanks to Professor Bill Foster for inviting me and my friend and fellow author, Liz Petry, author of At Home Inside.

Surviving Remnant Book Launch

The Rockville (CT) Public Library sponsored the National Book Launch of Surviving Remnant on March 26, 2017. The large crowd of book fans filled the beautiful Reading Room of the historic library. The author gave the background of her adventures leading up to the new book using illustrations and readings from two chapters, “The Girl of Summer” and “The Coin Collector.” It was a great occasion!
