Hump Day

This week is kind of meandering along like a slow moving stream, slowly but surely gaining speed. That's always the way when I'm anxiously awaiting a big trip. Friday morning I will jet down to Binghamton, pick up Nancy Schindler, and bold down to Philadelphia for Bead Fest.

I could not be more excited. 1. it's always a great time seeing all of my online bead friends! and 2. I can't wait to finally buy some things- I am in desperate need of beads!! I have been so good not spending as freely as I used to. Ever since I left my job in November, it's been sometimes a huge struggle to come up with cash for the mortgage and usually there isn't much left over to buy fun beads.  But I do admit, it's been VERY rewarding when I CAN make it happen!

I tried to write down a list of things I need, things I want to focus on buying this weekend. The list got VERY long, VERY fast. So I think I have to re-evaluate.  For example, it will be hard not to buy every art bead I see. But what I need are filler beads, like strands of Czech glass, seed beads, and strands of stones and hopefully maybe some metal findings like earring pairs and interesting links.

Also will be trying to keep my focus on getting some interesting focal beads like the ones I've been using in these multi-strand bracelets.  They are a lot of fun to make but I'm running out of interesting things to use.

Um wow. Next week is the reveal date for the Michael's challenge! DOH! I gotta get to work on that too! I hope you are finishing up your blog posts for the hop on tuesday!

I hope you are all having a fab week!

Hump Day Recap

so last thursday night, this happened.

No, that's not a tree. that's a tree LIMB that just broke out of no where, on the oak in front of our house.  No wind, no storm. Evidence of carpenter ants was seen on the broken branch. That's my diagnosis, because the branch broke from the bottom, and not the top. So it couldn't have been lightning.  The trees are owned by the village, so luckily we were not responsible for getting it removed, and they were there to cut it up that same night, before I went to bed.  Of course, Joe wasn't home when this happened, he traveled home the next day- after having just returned from his annual camping trip with his friend.

The roof sustained some damage and we'll be needing to get that fixed asap- but I think it's something Joe can do, so we can avoid another home insurance claim.

On the weekend, we went down and helped celebrate Nancy and Scott's recent nuptials.  They had a great party on Seneca Lake and it was fun to hang out and see Lisa Peters and Hank Russ there!  The weather was wonderful. We stayed with my Aunt who has a beautiful home on Seneca Lake, right up the road.

Came home Sunday and tried to spend as much time outside that we could. The weather has been absolutely stunning.  Went for a nice bike ride at a local bike trail and I almost ran over this guy...
Don't worry. We got him off the trail to safety.

Monday was pretty uneventful. I made stuff all day.

Tuesday morning, I'm in the studio playing around on my iPad. Pandora was playing and I heard this chirping which I at first thought was the song that was playing. Then I realized it was much louder than that and I turned the music down. I walked around to see where it was coming from and when realizing it was much louder in the stairway, I came down the stairs to see a huge brown bat crawling along the floor of the foyer with my two shitbirds chasing after it.

I thought I was going to die of heart failure, but acted fast. Ran down, iPad in hand still. Unsure of whether I should smoosh the bat with the ipad or use it to shoo the cats away, the bat flew over to the front door. In one fast movement I was able to shoo the cats away, Close the big door behind, open the secondary screen door and the bat flew away.  Did I mention it was huge?  I mean, HUGE. really HUGE. SERIOUSLY like eagle sized huge.

Needless to say, the last 24 hours have been anxiety-ridden and now I'm sitting here waiting for the bat guy to show up to do some damage control.

I was going to insert a picture of a big brown bat here, but I got too skeeved out to do it. blech.

Okay, so bad luck comes in 3s? What's next??
I'm still sitting here trying to figure out the significance of all this bad luck.

A new Michael's Challenge

Who's ready for a new challenge?  I was shopping around at Michael's the other day and saw some beads I could not live without.  SO I thought, why not share in the fun and we'll do another blog hop blog beading challenge. That's a mouthful. But you get the idea.

Go to your Michael's craft store and buy these beads. This week, for an extra incentive to play along, the Bead Gallery beads are 40% off! Hurry though, sale ends this weekend.  Get as many as you like. I bought 2 strands of the white nuggets, and 2 strands of the ceramic blue and white rounds. But if you think you'll only use 1 just buy what you need. If you need more, go nuts.

Here are the beads, close up and personal, along with their tag info.

Brass owl buttons- I found these with the leather, hemp and cording!

Blue and White ceramic rounds- I just love the patterning and the graphic blue and white!

Amber Mix shell Rondelles- great for added texture

6mm Quartzite rounds in a chartreuse/green color- they dont photograph well

White Quartzite nuggets- these reminded me of the beach rocks I found in Cape Cod
So here are some rules.

You must have a blog to participate. It's a blog hop, people.
Don't have one but want to start one? I did a nice ecourse on setting up a blogger blog from start to finish. Get it here.

Use the beads shown here, and you can add in up to 2 additional bead types to your design.  Create Any piece of jewelry you like, with the beads, using your own choice of focal.  If you want to make a necklace, and some matching bracelet and earrings... the sky is the limit. If you want to make 80 Pairs of earrings, Amy Freeland, Go NUTS. :)

Choose any design you like, using any technique - that'll be the fun part of the whole thing- to see what different things you can do with these same beads.

You don't have to use the button as a clasp. You can use it as part of the focal. You don't have to use the button at all if you can't find it. Sub a different button if you couldn't get the owls! There are no rules folks.  If you find similar beads somewhere like Hobby Lobby, go ahead and use em.  Seeing what everyone does with similar beads, is half the fun.

Reveal Date: August 27th

If you want to participate-  Come to my blog the morning of August 27th (reveal Day) and use the Link Up tool to add your blog links. I find this to be the easiest way to keep track of all the participants. So mark your calendars, buy the beads, create beautiful things, and get your blog posts ready for August 27 for a great hop!

Please feel free to leave comments on this post, or questions too!
