Gallery Spotlight: Bruce Wayne Training by Remidar
Not every piece in the Fan Gallery is taken directly from a Cat-Tale. This wonderful portrait of a young Bruce Wayne training is inspired by Batman Begins.
Remember that amazing Ice Fight between Bruce and Ducard? The first moment I remember that was Nolan’s own, branching off from comics to really infuse this Batman with his own flavor (snow-capped mountains = echt Nolan), and a perfect illustration of how it’s possible to do that while respecting the original story and doing honor to the characters. This marvelous portrait of a young Bruce Wayne training in the fan art gallery is by Remidar, one of the most prolific and gifted artists featured in the Cat-Tales Gallery.

Gallery Spotlight: Goodnight Gotham
Today’s spotlight is this sexy sketch from the solo gallery: Goodnight Gotham by kyriadalyn. Something about the sensuality of the pencil strokes, I actually prefer this to the colored version that came out later.

Or, put it another way…
Catwoman steals Avengers Buzz
Today, I’m taking time out from spotlighting lovely Catwoman artwork in the Cat-Tales gallery in order to spotlight this other Catwoman, because seriously, this third Dark Knight Rises trailer is the Catwoman Show! ME-OW!
(Btw, is anyone else amused that Selina is stealing the Avenger’s net action this morning?)

Gallery Spotlight: City of Heroes
Not all the digital pieces in the gallery are Thundering Monkey’s Posers or Second-Life based. One reader made these marvelous Balent-style portraits in City of Heroes.

Gallery Spotlight: Poison Ivy by Selina Enriquez
I really love the wispy details in this Poison Ivy by Selina Enriquez. The leaves and pips on the vine on her leg almost Hirschfeld Ninas, the way they vanish into the bed ruffle. The twirls on the end of that flower in her hand, the leaf-ruffing around her top. It’s a real beauty.

Gallery Spotlight: Catwoman by Anya Uribe
Artist Anya Uribe does these amazing, sensual curves that pull the eye through these wonderful compositions. Some of those compositions are very busy, some are elegantly simple, all have these soft colors and powerful lines that are just a wonder to me. There was a time when you looked at a comic page, and you could tell who drew it. Anya reminds me of that. Her pieces are instantly recognizable as hers, from voluptuous portraits like this to amusingly innocent chibis.

Gallery Spotlight: Catwoman Watercolor
Did you know there is a Fan Art Gallery on the Cat-Tales site brimming with the most amazing images of Selina, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn and the rest of the Cat-Tales characters?
No? Maybe because they were packed in a flash viewer that was very nice for its day but not suited to the ‘net of 2012. Now that each jewel in the gallery is properly displayed, I want to start showcasing them one by one.
Starting today with this Catwoman Watercolor from the solo gallery that might just be the most striking piece around. You cannot believe the little curling wisps of hair, the nuances of color and the effect of shimmering light. It’s simply gorgeous.

Ads that Make Me Purr
Someone just mentioned that they saw this ad on my Blogtalk Radio interview from a few months back. Seems… fitting.
“Time to set the record straight” indeed.
Then there was this gem from Cartier, which when I saw it, all I could think was “Selina just had one.”
Get used to it, with The Dark Knight Rises coming out this summer, Cattitude – that’s the APPEAL of being Catwoman – is going to assert itself in the media in subliminal ways. Those who don’t get the fantasy are in for a rough time of it, because “Gee what a grim and gritty life that is, I’m so glad I’m not such a damaged unfortunate mess but at least my outfit is practical” isn’t going to sell anything except, well, maybe hemorrhoid creme.
For the rest of us who love Selina, who get the thrill of being a bad girl, of pleasure and indulgence and getting away with something – who love LIFE as a joy to be savored and not an ordeal to be endured, these are welcome signs indeed that somebody – if only purveyors of jewelry and cellular service – understand the essence of what Catwoman is supposed to be. The Cattitude is back.
Mark your calendars: July 20, 2012
