Dolphin-Aided Fishing

Featured in Ripley's Believe It or Not!

Dolphins

Dolphins

MINI BELIEVE IT OR NOT –

In Laguna, Brazil, dolphins help fishermen by herding mullet into their nets.

The water is too murky for the fishermen to know when to cast their nets
The dolphins swim up and push schools of fish in towards the fishermen
They’ve worked out a signal to tell the fishermen when to throw their nets by breaching the water
It’s thought the fishermen’s nets spook the fish out of their schooling formation making it easier for the dolphins to catch a few

MINI BION EXTRAS

Dolphins “name” each other by using personal whistles unique to individuals.
Dolphin teeth have been used as currency in the Solomon Islands for centuries.
In 1965, a woman lived with a dolphin for 10 weeks in a flooded house, part of an experiment into possible communication with the creatures.

MINI BION
“BIONs” – short for Believe It or Not – is the word we use at Ripley’s to refer to anything that is unbelievable and worthy to become part of Ripley’s lore and collection.

Dandelion Ears

Dandelion

Dandelion

MINI BELIEVE IT OR NOT –

In 2013, doctors in Beijing performed surgery to remove a Dandelion that had been growing in the ear of a 16-month-old girl.

16-month-old Ranran had been scratching at her ear for months
Her parents took her to an ear, nose, and throat specialist who found the dandelion growing
Worried about the possibility of internal bleeding, the doctors performed surgery to completely remove the flower
The dandelion was nearly 2cm long and flowering when removed

Friday is Better with 5 Ripley’s-Approved Cat Tales

Featured in Ripley's Believe It or Not!

HEader-CatRoyalty

Bumblebee cat

It’s Friday, you need a pick-me-up to get through the final stretch of this week. We all do. I’m here to help!

From our latest book, 5 of our favorite stories proving cats just do whatever they want and you can’t stop them.

Get Dare to Look!

Maybe This Cat Forgot His Train Ticket?

A luxury black cat took a 120 MILE (193 km) train trip from Southampton, England all the way to Cardiff, Wales by clinging to the bottom of the train the whole time.

Dramatic Cat Train Stare

Cat + Cactus

A cat in Arizona decided to climb a 30 foot saguaro cactus in the desert. Oh, then our cat daredevil STAYED there for THREE DAYS before calmly moseying off; Presumably to walk on hot coals just because she can. This hedgehog and cat helped me have a recreation/dramatization.

Cat sits on spiky thing

Adopted Chicks

In Qingdao, China an owner left his birdcage open and his cat jumped in. But instead of doing anything malicious, the cat made some new playmates! This isn’t unheard of, but it sure is both rare and adorable…

…every time.

Professional Stunt Feline

In Boston, Massachusetts, Sugar decided to explore what’s outside his window.

He didn’t really think it through, seeing as he fell 19 stories from the high-rise he lived in! The amazing part is he walked away with no broken bones, cuts. On the other hand, I think I sprained my ankle walking up stairs last weekend.

Anakin, the Two-Legged Kitten

Anakin was born without his hind legs or even a pelvis, but that didn’t slow this kitten down! He uses his front two legs to walk and his tail to balance. He plays just like every other kitten.

5 Extreme High-Altitude Feats

Featured in Ripley's Believe It or Not!

Header-1

If you read our book or blog you already know that people do some daring things everyday just for the thrills. Except these featured adventure seekers like to literally take it a step higher with their high-altitude feats.

From our best-seller book, Dare To Look!

Get Dare to Look!

Skiing On a Glacier!
Glacier boarding in New Zealand

Turning the glistening glacier into their own extreme playground

Mark Sollors teeters on top of a giant natural quarterpipe on the side of glacier with a 40-foot drop to greet him if he doesn’t land correctly! The glacier is so remote that he was transported by helicopter!

On The Edge
Looking 350 ft. down. No one has ever survived a fall down Victoria Falls.

Looking 350 ft. down. No one has ever survived a fall down Victoria Falls.

Steve Fisher, Dale Jardine, and Sam Drevo paddled to the edge of Victoria Falls—the tallest and biggest waterfall in the world. They’re looking down 350 feet in this picture!

No only is the destination dangerous but the journey is as well: The river running between Zambia and Zimbabwe is filled with Hippos known to be extremely aggressive to humans and often considered the most dangerous animal in Africa!

Julian Carr does his trademark flip off a 60-foot cliff in Utah’s Alta Ski Resort!

Concert in The Clouds

21,825 feet or 6,654 meters or 4.2 miles.

That’s how high up Musician Oz Bayldon played on the top of Mera Peak in the Himalayas. The band trekked up the mountain with three guitars, an iPad, and a speaker.

Once at the top, they played a 40 minutes set for 14 people including mountaineers!

A 600-Foot Plunge!

Tomas Bergemalm spent months planning this 600-foot (183 meter) plunge down a French Mountain. He claims this will be his last, as he’s planning to retire to a less adventurous lifestyle.

Mr. Fibbles is the Weirdest Alter Ego

fibbles-header-2

Dominick Reed transforms his face in the craziest “self portraits”.

You can find this story our latest book Dare To Look!

Get Dare to Look!

Who Is He?

Creative Director Dominick Reed started an odd occupation and hobby: Taking arguably the most bizarre and slightly disturbing self-portraits for a fictional character he called Mr. Fibbles.

How?!

Dominick has spent approximately more than 3,650 HOURS creating Mr. Fibbles!

He creates this character with a mixture of digital magic, a lot of makeup, wigs, and props! One of his shots took the entire day!

As for Mr. Fibbles in the photos, he usually finds himself in uniquely fantastic circumstances such as using a key to unlock his mind or accidentally growing a mustache out of his eye sockets for movember—probably not issues you have to think about much.

Fibbles- I was never any good at Movember

I was never any good at Movember

Seems like a silly idea?

Mr. Fibbles has actually brought together a large Internet audience, big enough where Dominick Reed a.k.a. Mr. Fibbles get recognized in the street. And now he has successfully funded his own book on kickstarter which has aptly been described with: “That’s the second most disturbing thing I’ve ever held in my hands.”

That’s a fantastic compliment!

See more in the gallery below:
