A few days ago this happened on Twitter:

[Me:]  My POV this why Pollyanna must rule. RT @guardianbooks: When authors attack http://bit.ly/6CiQyq But but BUT, maybe I'll write blog rant.

[From:] radmilibrarian @robinmckinley Saw that last week when it was still unfolding. Probably also why authors shouldn't read their Amazon reviews.

[Me:] @radmilibrarian Was it you sent me the link? I saw it too. But that someone(s) went too far obscures that there's a real point 2 b made.

[From:] radmilibrarian   @robinmckinley No, I sent you the...

Merry/Happy Christmas

SUNLIGHT.

And, furthermore, we got out of town.  For the first time since the meteorological siege began.  The pavements are thawing, the roads are almost clear.  Hellhounds and I had a proper hurtle today.  Yaaay.

And the hellhounds are on lead despite huge open grassy field dazzlingly devoid of livestock because there are a bunch of frelling walkers coming up behind us.  What is the matter with people that they go for a walk on Christmas Day, especially on an utterly glorious clear...

Bah Humbug*

IMG_0391      The weather continues inexpressibly delightful.  Rain, sleet, hail, snow, freezing rain**, freezing fog.  And occasional lightning and thunder, just to make sure we're paying attention.***  Wolfgang, however, bless his pointed little carburettor, is part gecko†, and we're still getting up and down various hills . . . slowly.††

The splendour of wading and crashing through the countryside also carries on in rejoicing.  We've had melt/freeze so long now that you never know...

Christmas Food – a guest recipe

from B-Twin

Christmas Food

Section C: Desserts

There are many things to have when it comes to Christmas desserts. I love plum pudding but I haven't attempted to try and better my Aunt's recipe yet as I've tended to make other things. Here in the Southern Hemisphere it is high Summer of course and that has a slight bearing on choices we make. ;)

Pavlova is an Australian and New Zealand institution. There are several ways to make it but basically it is a meringue. We smother it in cream and...

Nope

I didn't make my PEGASUS deadline today.  I probably knew by the end of last week that I wasn't going to.  Sylvi—my heroine—goes off and has adventures, as my heroines are wont to do, and when she comes home again, all kinds of things have changed, including her.  Followed by my Frodo-was-alive-but-taken-by-the-Enemy ending, and you're not going to be able to turn the page and find out what happens next for at least a year, and . . . well . . . let's just leave it as 'at least a year'.  I...

A blur of . . .

. . . well, hellhounds, among other things.  I'm unbelievably tired and whacked out, even on my recent usual scale of tired and whacked-out-ness, and even as Lo Text Mondays go this is going to be lo lo looooo, er, low.  And blurry.  I also need to try the assault on my hill while the temperature is still below freezing:  the idea is to hang out around here at the mews whilst the last moments of melt go on outdoors—and then whip down* to the cottage just before it drops below the evil magic ...

Ramblings of a increasingly deranged author nearing deadline

PEGASUS, PEGASUS, PEGASUS, PEGASUS, PEGASUS, PEGASUS, PEGASUS, PEG . . . SHUT UP, MCKINLEY.

Okay, wait a minute, there's probably something I can talk about.  Coherently.  Well, coherently may be asking a lot.

I got to bed last night at my usual mmmph o'clock having once again somehow evaded the glorious opportunity to slide down my cul de sac on my butt*, with attendant hellhounds.  It was 34°F last night at mmmph o'clock, which meant that everything had a nice...

Guest post by Jodi Meadows

A continuing epic adventure of socks and spindles and fanciness

Part two point five (point another five): THE SPINDLING (demonstration)

Alternate title: In which my numbering system collapses.

If you missed or forgot the previous posts in this series, here are links for The Yarning, The Spindling part one, and The Spindling part two.

4a. The first length of yarn you'll spin is called a leader. On wheels, this is what you'd use to thread the whole thing and get your real yarn onto the bobbin for t...

Not quite upright

I am immoderately tired.*  Typical.  I don't do moderation.   Generally speaking I have NO IDEA why I should be so tired.**  What do I have to be tired about?  Everyone knows that writers just hang around in their dressing-gowns all day drinking tea/coffee and whingeing.  But it might have something to do with the weather.  We didn't get hit with the really big stuff in this part of Hampshire—only a few miles away they got three and six inches of snow overnight—but according to my...
