Peter, continued*

Peter's been increasingly tired lately, Thursday was alarming, and Friday when hellhounds and I turned up after morning hurtle he was not making sense.  I got him to the doctor—why can't I be a black belt ninja something when I need to handle an almost-dead weight that is half again as much as I weigh—who said Peter had a high fever but couldn't find any obvious reason for it.  He scratched his head for a while and sent us home with major antibiotics, saying, if Peter's not 'significantly' ...

Guest Post by Black Bear

Keeping It Tiny

I sometimes worry that, over the course of my minor career as a guest-blogger, I am likely to reveal all the levels of my personal nerdiness one by one, laying it all bare on the internet (so to speak.)  It's not so much that I'm embarrassed at my geekery, but I feel I'm losing my mystery, a bit… Anyway, some of you know that I currently work as an exhibit developer in a large museum.  But that's only my most recent career; I spent about 15 years of my life in the hobby games a...

Disaster, devastation and despair

BLONDEL IS LEAVING.

Yes.  He beat out his rival, he was offered the job, AND HE TOOK IT.

::: Wailing* and rending of garments :::

. . . Silence then falls.

Pull yourself together, McKinley, you have a blog post to write!  Write.  Right.  Um.

I was already badly short of sleep and not up for a lot of outrageous fortune's slings and arrows before this grievous and staggering blow fell.**  I'm not sleeping well anyway and at eight thirty this morning*** the builders...

ARCs and the hopeless callowness of some authors

To begin, here's the skinny* on asking for an ARC of PEGASUS for review.  Don't ask me!  Email:  sara.zick@us.penguingroup.com

I don't know how many they've printed or how many are already earmarked for specific reviewers and review sites/journals, how many they're giving away to people who ask, how many they're shoving in the back seat** to take to conventions***, or what their suitable reviewer criteria are†.  I could probably find out . . . but I don't want to.  As it is I'm h...

Beautiful Easter Day

It was hard to get into the bell tower this morning;  the early service ran late, and the vestibule was still full of people who wanted to hang around for a word with the priest when we needed to get in to ring the second, main service.  The ladder to the bell tower rises into darkness and mystery from the vestibule.   As I was lurking by the outside door and wondering if it was worth making a rush for it, so what if I trampled a few little old ladies, this town has lots of little old...

Weirdness

Hurtling hellhounds this morning was even more exciting than usual since the rain was even more exciting than usual.  I put off strapping them into their raincoats . . . pretty much till we see the ark floating toward us.  Partly, I admit, because I am a Bad Mean Cheese-Paring* Scrooge of an owner and their raincoats aren't actually all that waterproof.  They do slow seepage down a bit, and they make the difference in getting Chaos outdoors at all in winter sleet** but mostly . . . if the...
