Levees protecting historic Zoar have been breached by recent flooding, and the US Army Corps of Engineers is considering how to handle future threats, according to Jon Elsasser, Zoar Community Association president. Options include relocating or razing buildings in the lower part of the town to allow flood water to envelop the property or repairing the levee, the more expensive choice. Townspeople, descendents of original settlers, and interested citizens are joining the effort to preserve the historic village as is, a valuable link to America's past. Join the effort at www.savehistoriczoar.org. Future posts will keep you up to date on their progress.
