Hi, I'm Tejano and feel like I've been slipping from my Mexican roots, what Mexican comic artists do you recommend (besides you and the Hernandez Bros)? Gracias!!!

Hi! I’ve been thinking this question through and through and here are some pointers I thought about…
There is a big tradition of mexican cartooning in regards to politic cartoons, the cartoonists that come to my mind from this genre are Fisgón, Rius and also Trino and Jis (who aren’t as political as the first two but also have some work in that vein). My favorite of these is Jis, but I suggest you check them all out anyway (if you really want to get an idea of mexican cartooning).
You can also look into Libros Vaqueros, which are typical cheap comics that people like construction workers read, they can be pornographic or like cheesy soap operas. They have epic covers and some really weird, funny bad drawings.
Other mexican comics I like are the ones that are being made right now by the collective Ediciones Joc Doc: Abraham Díaz, Apolo Cacho, Chacho Grijalva, Yecatl Peña and Mou. They are doing beautiful, wild, dirty comics about topics like sex and the current state of Mexico (which is shit).
There are also “mainstream” comics but those are boring.

As a side note: I’ve never read anything from the Hernandez Brothers. People tell me I should but they have too many different titles I never know where to start. I mostly read manga and comics by people I know from the internet.

Also: I have a column in Vice Mexico (online and in spanish) called Tebeo Tropical where I post comics and also sometimes write about local events, review stuff and interview artists, so yeah you can check that for **more**

January was pretty dead around here, but we’re back with full power! Like these gang of malicious characters by Dieter VDO, ready to beat your head up with colour. This is the last chance to get them, as well as the rest of what is left of our selection of guest artist stickers, because starting next week there will be something completely new in that section!

holagatosaurio:

Lapsos I-III, the final issue to this first volume from Inés Estrada’s new series, is now available. Here are some nice words about it:

"Estrada’s art has a wild exterior to it, but I’ve always been struck by the strong storytelling and humane characters that are the anchor of her art." —Austin English

"Estrada couples a hallucinogenic story structure with goofball humor and some of the most satisfying new linework in comics." —Edie Fake

You can get just this issue for $6 or all 3 for $15, world wide shipping included. Also, all orders include a free postcard!

have you read these yet? i have like 20 sets of the three issues left… and im not reprinting!
