Excerpt:
He scrubbed a hand over his jaw. “I don’t know what you want from me, but what I want is the truth. Why tonight? Why me?”
She swallowed hard, but the lump in her throat didn’t budge. It was indeed the moment of truth. “B-because I want you,” she whispered. “I wanted you the minute you showed your face at my door. Nope, scratch that. I’ve wanted you ever since the day I saw you on the High School Rodeo team, only I was too young even to understand what it was I wanted. But now I do. Understand. And I’m not sixteen anymore.”
His brows came together and his mouth hardened. “I don’t get it. Why me?”
“I don’t know. You’re just different from the others. I knew it would be better with you than with anyone else.”
He shook his head slowly. “I sure don’t know what to make of that.”
“What about you?” she asked. “Why did you come here tonight? There must have been someone else you could have called.”
“I don’t know,” he said. “It’s been a shitty night. I was feelin’ pretty low. I just started walkin’ and then I found myself here…Maybe I was hoping I’d be welcome at your door.”
“Maybe you were right… So where does that leave us?”
“I don’t know, Red. This is new territory.”
“Have you changed your mind because I don’t know what I’m doing?” she asked.
“Hell, no. That’s not it. It’s just you and me. I didn’t expect this.”
“Neither did I… but that doesn’t mean I didn’t hope for the right time…the right one.”
“And you think that’s me?”
“Yeah.” She nodded. “I know it is. I’ve always wanted it to be you. Now I’ve told you everything.” With her heart in her throat she gazed up into his face. His expression was harsh and unreadable. She swallowed hard, and whispered, “Do you still want to? Want me?”
He stepped into her, murmuring only inches from her mouth, “If we just take this slow, I think we’ll figure it out.”

A WILD NIGHT’S BRIDE (The Devil DeVere Book #1)
by Victoria Vane
With the devil in charge … there could be hell to pay
She needs a protector… Once seduced by whispered promises of a faithless lover, Phoebe Scott is determined to make a name on the Covent Garden stage, but after three years of bit parts, she realizes she’ll never achieve her goals on her own merits. Acknowledging her success is dependent on a powerful patron, Phoebe is now resolved to find a protector to secure her future. With this goal in mind, she seeks out the best prospects at London’s most notorious brothel.
He’s avowed to celibacy… Sir Edward “Ned” Chambers has been lost and lonely since his wife’s death in childbirth. Burdened with blame, he has sworn to a life of celibacy, but after three years, he is inwardly edgy, irritable, and increasingly discontent. Perceiving the cause behind Ned’s unhappiness, as well as the obvious cure, his best friend and rake of the first order, “The Devil” DeVere, is hell-bent to return Ned to the land of the living. DeVere’s machinations result in an outrageous wager that could lead Ned to a new love… or land them all in the Tower! All bets are off in in this racy Georgian romp!

THE VIRGIN HUNTRESS (The Devil DeVere #2) by Victoria Vane
All’s Fair in Love and Abduction
In the second installment of the award-winning Devil DeVere series, Ned’s daughter Vesta is preparing for her come-out only to have her world turned upside down when her father returns from London with a bride of his own! Put out that he is so wrapped up in Phoebe, Vesta accompanies her godmother, Diana, to town where she meets and falls instantly in love with the gallant Captain Hewett DeVere.
“Hew” DeVere, younger brother to Viscount Ludovic “The Devil” DeVere, has returned from the war with plans of selling his commission and settling down. He quickly becomes enamored of the older but beautiful Diana, and barely notices eighteen-year-old Vesta. When Hew fails to respond to her feminine charms, Vesta takes extreme measures to capture the object of her desire, but Hew didn’t survive the worst of the war only to succumb to Vesta’s wayward wiles. Proving the adage that opposites attract, this hilarious romp pits the would-be huntress against the gallant hero in an epic war of wills. (Romantic comedy with mature content)

Love and Lust rec: ‘Slow Hand’ by Victoria Vane
Review and interview Re-Blogged from USA TODAY on 10/24/14
SLOW HAND by Victoria Vane
What it’s about (courtesy Sourcebooks Casablanca):
In rural Montana … Wade Knowlton is a hardworking lawyer who’s torn between his small-town Montana law practice and a struggling family ranch. He’s on the brink of exhaustion from trying to save everybody and everything, when gorgeous Nicole Powell walks into his office. She’s a damsel in distress and the breath of fresh air he needs.
Even the lawyers wear boots … Nicole Powell is a sassy Southern girl who has officially sworn off cowboys after a spate of bad seeds-until her father’s death sends her to Montana and into the arms of a man who seems too good to be true. Her instincts tell her to high tail it out of Montana, but she can’t resist a cowboy with a slow hand…
Why you should read it: Nikki Powell lives in Atlanta, has a dead-end job with a merciless nitpicky boss and has just been notified that her estranged father has died in Montana. As his only living relative, it is up to Nikki to go to Montana to make funeral arrangements and finalize his affairs. What she doesn’t expect is to have one awful thing after another happen on her way, resulting in her arrival with no official identification, no money and no way to get help. That is, until she runs into attorney Wade Knowlton. Wade rescues her as best he can until she can get the ID and cards in her missing wallet replaced.
Wade’s family owns a ranch, and he winds up taking Nikki home with him because she has nowhere else to go. A horseback ride out to round up stray cattle turns into an overnight stay in a shack, and Nikki and Wade find plenty to do to pass the night. This book has some of the hottest sex scenes, I’ll tell you for sure.
Wade and his brother Dirk have some kind of bad history that Wade won’t talk about, but when that bombshell is finally revealed to Nikki, it will either bring Nikki and Wade closer or cause a permanent split before their relationship can even begin.
Nikki has her own baggage and secrets that she has a tough time telling Wade, or anyone else, for that matter. The only thing she’ll tell Wade is she has sworn off cowboys but not why. I was rooting for them to just talk to each other through the whole book, but when they did it might have made matters worse, not better.
More secrets: What does Wade know about Nikki’s father that she doesn’t know? Will it make a difference to her about returning to Atlanta and the horrible boss when she finds out?
I loved this book and in fact could hardly put it down. In the end I only have one thing to say to Ms. Vane: when will the next book be out and it had better tell us all about Wade’s brother Dirk and what’s going on with him! I highly recommend Slow Hand as an enjoyable romantic story with some comedy, some drama and lots of scorching sex.
INTERVIEW WITH VICTORIA VANE
Becky: You are known for your historical romances. What made you want to write a contemporary Western romance?
Victoria: To be perfectly candid, I have to say it was out of sheer frustration! After almost five years and 13 books that have received numerous awards and accolades, I’m still virtually unknown to readers. A good friend of mine, who is also a reviewer for several sites, kept trying to persuade me to write a contemporary romance. I balked at the idea for two years in the belief that I had the wrong voice for it, but then last year I finally broke down and decided to give it a try.
She and I brainstormed ideas for a couple of months but nothing bore fruit. I think it was because I was trying to shape a story around what seemed to be most popular with readers at the time — the billionaire/virgin trope. I just couldn’t buy into it. It was only when I began looking inward that I found my story. I’ve been a lifelong horse owner and have always loved cowboys. (Wade is named after my first cowboy crush.) Once my characters came to life in my head, so did the “voice.”
Becky: The locations of the story are so well described. How did you decide on Montana for this story?
Victoria: Once more, this is where personal experiences came into play as I have been to almost all the places I mention in the books. Nikki’s story is partly autobiographical as I was also estranged from my father for many years. He had moved to Montana with plans to retire there but then developed lung cancer. He passed away six months later and his ashes were scattered there. I went to Montana to research my story, but also to say my final goodbye to my father.
Becky: Nikki is a strong, self-sufficient woman. Would it have been easier to write a story about a woman who accepted Wade as her white knight without the guilt or angst that Nikki had?
Victoria: It probably would have been much easier, but it also would have been a really short story! Cowboy meets girl. Girl falls in love with cowboy. They live happily ever after. The end. LOL! Seriously, most of my heroines are very strong-willed and independent. They also carry some baggage, but that’s the type of woman I best relate to.
Becky: Your secondary characters are as well developed as your main characters. Will we hear more about Wade’s brother and Nikki’s sister as the series moves ahead?
Victoria: Absolutely! Wade’s brother Dirk is the hero of the second book, Rough Rider. I think readers are going to be very surprised by his journey. It’s a very intense, complex and emotionally compelling story.
As far as Nikki’s sister Shelby goes, I had planned for her story to be book No. 3 but my editor rejected the proposal because I had paired her up with a football player (the one from Slow Hand). She didn’t want a football player even though I told her he was also a cowboy, so I had to come up with a completely different storyline for No. 3, which she accepted. Later, when she read Slow Hand, she fell completely in love with Shelby and asked if that was my next book! So now it looks like Shelby and her cowboy football player will be book No. 5! It’s going to be really fun since I plan to turn the bad-boy trope on its ear. I would also like to write a story for Allie, but it hasn’t quite come to life for me yet.
Becky: Can you tell us about your works in progress? Where can readers find out more about you and your upcoming books?
Victoria: I just turned in my final revisions on book No. 3 in this series called Sharp Shooter. I have a feeling it is going to be a very polarizing book, but it is also my favorite of the three. The hero is a Marine scout sniper whose family runs a backcountry hunting/outfitting business in Wyoming. My heroine is a wolf biologist/conservationist from Southern California. It deals with a number of highly relevant issues. The tag line is: Sparks ignite when worlds collide! (You can say that again!)
I am also working on book No. 4, Silver Tongue, which features wild Mustangs, another subject that I have personal experience with as I adopted and trained one a number of years ago. I’m really excited about both of these stories.
Lastly, I have a hot Las Vegas set series called Hotel Rodeo coming from Kensingtonin early 2016. Book No. 1 is Hell on Heels and pairs a down-and-out former rodeo bull fighter with a N.Y. Investment banker. I love this series! It’s going to be fun and flirty with many colorful characters.

VICTORIA VANE PLAYLIST FOR SLOW HAND
I have a very musical muse. What I mean is that I am unable to write without it and my music is always different depending onwhat I’m writing. Music also helps me to immerse myself in my characters. I tend to be drawn most to music that tells a story. While my playlist for my upcoming Cowboy series varies widely, (from the traditional country sounds of George Strait to the hard rocking Nickelback) all of the music serves to set the tone for the individual books.
My play list for SLOW HAND was almost all country music (some George Strait, Big and Rich, a smattering of Carrie Underwood and lots of Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton.)
Give it All We Got Tonight – George Strait
Rollin’ – Big and Rich
Wild West Show – Big and Rich
Got a Little Country – Blake Shelton
Cowboy Casanova – Carrie Underwood
In Love with The Girl – Luke Bryan
I Don’t Want this Night to End – Luke Bryan
Mine Would be You – Blake Shelton
Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye – Luke Bryan
SLOW HAND opens with my hero sitting at an airport waiting for his flight. He’s listing to the mellow sounds of George Strait on his iPod when he first spots my heroine, Nikki who is traveling to Montana to bury her father.
Excerpt:
It was her ass he’d noticed first, couldn’t help it actually, since it was parked right in front of him at eye level. Clad in tight denim, supported by legs that went all the way up, it was a mighty fine, shapely, womanly ass, the kind a man liked to fill his hands with.
His interest piqued, Wade’s gaze roamed higher to light brown hair that waved past her shoulders. With her back to him, he couldn’t see her face or judge her age, neither could he hear a word she spoke with his ear buds crooning George Strait. Still, he was an observer by nature, and his innate ability to read body language had been further honed by his profession. Lacking any other distraction, he watched her, playing a game with himself to see how much of her story he could discern by her actions alone.
The youngish woman attached to the prime ass had a boarding pass in hand that she flapped at the apathetic gate agent whose attention appeared fully engaged in tapping on the keyboard, and staring into her monitor like it was a crystal ball. After a time, the wooden-faced woman glanced up and shook her head. Further fruitless argument ensued, at which point Wade pulled his ear buds to eavesdrop.
Hot Ass wasn’t getting on the flight.
In the next scene with my hero, he’s given up his seat to my distressed heroine, Nikki, and renting a car for an all night drive from Denver to Montana:
Excerpt:
His mind wandered back to the girl at the airport. He still marveled at the impulse that had spurred him to give up his seat. He wondered what might have happened had he been stranded in Denver with her. Maybe he would have offered her dinner. Maybe she would have accepted. And maybe they might have shared a room at the airport Hilton. He then shrugged it off as another lost opportunity, compounding all the rest.
Wade plugged his iPod into the audio jack of the rental car and then scrolled impatiently through various playlists in search of something besides the two cans of Red Bull to help keep his eyes open for the all night driving marathon. He settled on the blaring sounds of Big and Rich. I’m a dynamite, daddy, I’ll put the rhythm in your blues, I’m not a wishy-washy boy like you’re used to…Yeah. That was the ticket. Part country, part urban madness. Much like him.
Grinning, he punched the accelerator of the Dodge Avenger. And like any good cowboy, Wade drove off into the sunset.
After accompanying Nikki to the mortuary, Wade offers to buy her a drink. He’s eager to see her let her hair down but maybe gets a bit more than he bargained for:
Excerpt:
“Do you dance, Wade?”
“Not really, but if you feel like dancing,” he patted his lap,” knock yourself out.”
“Keep dreamin’.” Nikki rolled her eyes with a snort. She then idly flipped through the playlist attached to the old timey juke box on the tabletop. “Got any quarters on you?”
“Why? You got a favorite song?”
She flashed him a dazzling smile. “I got your song, Wade.”
“My song? Really? What is it?”
“You’ll see.” She laughed a throaty chuckle, dropped the coins he gave her into the machine, and then made her selection. The sultry tones of Carrie Underwood filled the air. “See?” she laughed. “I’ve totally got your number, Wade.”
“Cowboy Casanova? He speared her with those amazingly clear and sexy light blue eyes. “Is that what you think I am?”
“Yeah, I do. A big time sexy cowboy player, but I don’t do players and for damned sure not sexy chin-dimpled cowboys.”
