Super Useful Travel Links 9.14.12

I’m counting down the days to my vacation to Anaheim (and Los Angeles, Carlsbad, Hollywood and Santa Monica). I’m squeezing everything in I’ve never done in the area and some stuff I want to do again. There will be a flurry of review and destination posts when I come back, too. In the meantime, I’ve been devouring all kinds of travel suggestions and news and figure I might learn a new trick along the way. Either way, I am passing on the most interesting to you today, so I hope any of this c...

There’s a Chill in the Air 9.12.12

I woke up this morning and my house was freezing. Even the dog was reluctant to come out from under the covers. Then I went to my car to drive to work and I could see my breath and had to use my heater to defrost my windows. I don’t like it at all, but I will have to admit pretty soon that Fall is on its way. I’m sad, because it took until the middle of July for Portland to get real Summer weather and now it’s over so quickly, or at least it isn’t warm when the sun goes down.

Ph...

48 Fun Hours on a Budget in Stockholm 9.8.12

In this blog series I show you how easy it is to budget travel anywhere and I also give you a quick overview of a new city each time in a brief 48-hour itinerary.

My lovely friend Naomi lives in Sweden and she gave me some great suggestions – and photos – for visiting Stockholm over a short break. The city is super easy to walk and is great for couples, solos and those with children. Naomi has three kids of varying ages and they took a day trip into Stockholm and had a wonderful time. Not...

Relax...on Labor Day 9.1.12

It's Labor Day weekend and I'm sure everyone is relaxing on their three-day weekend in some way. I am also kicking back. Taking a trip to the salt grotto today, which I'll be talking about in the future here. Hopefully, I'll come back refreshed and be on my way to ailment-free! Okay, probably not that last part, but salt is supposed to have healing properties, so I'll let you know if I feel any different after my visit. In the meantime, I've found some of my favorite relaxing photos to shar...

Super Useful Travel Links 8.31.12

In the true spirit of giving
you wonderful people good advice when it comes to travel and everything related
to it, I have rounded up a whole bunch of actual
useful travel links.
It’s true! I have used my research skillz for good
instead of for my own amusement, so no funny packing videos or stories about dummies
who stay on the phone for 15+ hours to talk to customer service. As always, I
hope you enjoy and also share anything, interesting, useful or fun that you
found related to travel (...

Travel Cheaper with Ebates 8.29.12

Did I catch your attention? Everyone wants to travel for less, but sometimes it just seems so hard to figure out how to do it. Well, if one thing is easy, it is using Ebates to save money on everything from buying shoes to booking a hotel. It’s been a while since I hounded told you about the greatness that is Ebates, so I thought this would be the best time to get in another post on the benefits of using it, since prices are dropping on airfare and hotels, and online shops are starting thei...

Traveling Food Champion 8.25.12

Have you been pickpocketed/robbed or lost your passport on vacation? I'm looking to interview people like you by email. If you would like to help me out by sharing your story, please email me.

I don’t know about you, but you are well aware how I like to travel for food. I’m also a big fan of the show Man Vs. Food with Adam Richman, even though I really detest food eating competitions. Yes, I am a conundrum, but that’s what makes me so awesome, right? I figure since someone...

Late Summer Frugal Fun 8.22.12

August is winding down, but with Labor Day Weekend coming up, we still have at least three good weeks/weekends to savor before all the outdoor coolness goes away (unless you live in a year-round warm climate). Most cities have fun things to do every weekend of the Summer, like free or cheap concerts, parties in the park and more.

This past weekend we took
advantage of the good weather and attended Ecopalooza in a lovely Portland Park
near the waterfront. There were food trucks, vendo...
