Harlequin to be purchased by News Corp.

Many sources are reporting today that News Corp has agreed to acquire Harlequin Enterprises from Torstar Corporation. Harlequin will become a division of Harper Tor Collins Publishers. While this still needs to pass certain customary governmental approvals and stockholders, it appears to be one everyone is excited about. The purchase price of the acquisition is being reported at around $455 million. They will keep their headquartered in Toronto.

When I did a quick analysis of Harlequins total revenue divided by an estimated number their books released last year I estimated that their average book make their writers about $25,000 per year. This is not bad. There is no doubt that Harlequin has built one of the largest and most widely recognized consumer brands in publishing, with a highly focused publishing program for women and romance books.
I assume that all writers with Harlequin are happy about this new development, but only time will tell just how good this works out. One thing is for sure; the publishing business is changing and will continue to do so for a long time.

ANALYZING WHAT THE CURRENT BEST SELLING MYSTERY AND THRILLER NOVELS HAVE IN COMMON

First thing everyone will have to admit is the name of the author plays a major role in getting many people to buy a book. These authors have worked hard and deserve to be rewarded. Other than that, I thought it would be interesting to see what others aspects the current best sellers share.  In THE TARGET by David Baldacci we have a President who turns to two professional assassins who can stop a major menace that threatens the world, a big picture thriller. In contrast we have I’VE GOT YOU UNDER MY SKIN by Mary Higgins Clark, where the author brings the terror down to a deep personal fear of losing your child, and that is after losing your own life, making it impossible to be there to provide any protection. Next, you have MOTHER’S DAY OUT by Karen MacInerney, which is more of an amateur sleuth who attempts to become a professional, but has a mixture of comedy relief in still a book full of deep thrills and several unsolved mysteries. Another favorite area for thriller writers is the rich and famous, which is what Stuart Wood writes in his novel CARNAL CURIOSITY, bringing back one of his best characters, Stone Barrington into action to solve crimes involving the super rich in NYC and exploiting their own secrets against them. In G. M. Ford’s book, CHUMP CHANGE, we have another private detective searching for answers to the death of a millionaire who has a past connection with the detective. Additionally, you have Greg Iles new book, NATCHEZ BURNING, where you have a legal thriller set in the deep south and a small town confrontation with its notorious past involving the kkk.  Therefore in conclusion as to what makes the best thrillers and mystery books currently on the market you have to look at one main clue–each writer makes their book stand out and different from everyone else. All of these books are totally unique. Each takes you into a new world that has to be explored, and one that only this author can deliver.

One of the best selling international romantic novels that is full of action and adventure as a worldwide mystery is solved

DRONES THE FIRST BOOK IN THE MALIVIATI SERIES
So you think a DRONE attack on American soil will never happen?
Then ask yourself one simple question.
What or who would ever prevent such an attack, a crime against America?

And

Couldn't this be the perfect way for someone to establish a one world order?

Luckily there is one group that resist such a power grab, and it is lead by the strongest female ever bred for such a challenge--Matalina.
This is another spellbinding international thriller from one of Amazon’s bestselling authors. This first mesmerizing book in the MALIVIZIATI SERIES is a riveting look into a world where the Illuminati and the Maliviziati confront each other. But it also has a contemporary romance where Matalina searches for her lover who betrayed her and the love she had given him.
This intense international thriller is a work of fiction packed with action and adventure where Matalina heads the elite special forces of Baltonia, a small country near Switzerland, and where the Maliviziati maintain their secret society that opposes the Illuminati’s various splinter crime groups that want to create a new world order.
While she directs the most powerful special operatives in the world, she is very capable of going solo when needed. She was bred like her parents and theirs before to be the best warrior in the world. Unfortunately, her chosen mate, Bjorn, has turned against them, killing her sister in the process. She loved him earlier, and perhaps she still does. Still, when she finds him, she will kill him.
When a new faction attempts to release drones in America, Matalina has to respond to keep this from playing into the hands of those wanting to create a new world order. She soon learns that the leader of this group is one of Bjorn’s operatives, Mario, a guy she should kill, but he is also the one person she needs to take alive to be able to locate Bjorn.
With mercenaries flown in from Columbia to help this terrorist faction which was formed out of Afghanistan, this novel circles the globe as many players fight for eventual control of the world.

THE SEARCH FOR INTERNATIONAL BEST SELLING NOVELS THAT ESCAPED THE FULL ATTENTION OF MOST AMERICANS

Many people know many of the great novels produced in America, but there are many great authors around the world, all with a fantastic story to tell. While these writers tell stories from emotional filled contemporary romances to bone chilling thrillers filled with action and adventure, they also give us an insight into a totally different world. And . . . isn’t one of the reasons we read is to be transformed into a world we have never experienced before?

While A TALE OF TWO CITIES by Charles Dickens, or THE LORD OF THE RINGS by J. R. R. Tolkien has been read by over 150 million people, maybe 200 million, there are other books like LE PETIT PRINCES by Antoine de Saint-Exupery that has also sold over 200 million copies.

So, how does one find these masterpieces, these future best sellers?

The INTERNET is a beautiful place and one where you can find advice from many people around the world.
If you know of a novel in your country that you think will be interesting to others on an international level, please let me know and I will research it and pass it on. This way we all can enjoy the best writers in the world.

I hope you do leave a comment and suggestions on those novels that we should all read.
