Diversity

Nehemiah 7:20 The children of Adin, six hundred fifty and five.

Adin could mean “dainty, effeminate or delicate…” The arguable weakness of the feminine gender has caused many to exclude them from enterprise. But this is wrong. Your team should embrace all genders and particularly encourage and empower women to take their rightful place in leadership and to support leaders. It is more important to accept the diversity of your workforce and encourage different styles rather than seek to force fit all your people into a “tough” mold. Ideas are not always nurtured in human strength, nor are the best decisions taken by the brawny … Be watchful in excluding any because of a physical weakness or visible disability. God has a way of using those we would ordinarily disregard to shame our intellect and maximize His glory in situation.

Diversity should not mean to embrace or encourage sin or unbiblical lifestyles… but to give everyone a chance to be and play their God ordained role. Some may be a bit slower, even more delicate and sensitive … be especially kind to these. They are God’s children …remember … and He owns it all and is sovereign over your business.

Verses for further meditation

Exodus 35:25-26; Esther 2:17

Thoughts for Business and the work place

Diversity in the workplace maximizes productivity as it includes all gifts.

Happy

Nehemiah 7:19 The children of Bigvai, two thousand threescore and seven.

Bigvai means “happy” or “in my body” … Many motivational messages have taught us that we should pursue our own happiness …but happiness comes when we seek after God. In this world, in this earthly body, the bible does not say we would be unhappy …but it describes something of far greater and exceeding joy yet to be ever experienced in God’s heaven.

Job_5:17 Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty:

When were you last corrected or redirected against your wishes or popular opinion? If you have not experienced God’s chastening in business, politics or in your home, then know that you are on the path of sorrow. We correct our children so they do not make mistakes or fall into grievous situations. Perhaps the root of your sorrow is in your refusal to take correction at some stage in your life. You can still retrace your steps … Be happy in obedience to His word.

Make an important correction that may be grievous today, but will result in happiness tomorrow … in business, family or even in politics.

Verses for further meditation

Psalm 146:5; John 13:9-17

Thoughts for Business and the work place

Happiness is one of the outcomes of a realized vision. Frustration trails buried dreams.

Suggestions for Prayer

Lord, teach us to rejoice in your word and find strength in your joy. Amen

Whom the Lord sets up

Nehemiah 7:18 The children of Adonikam, six hundred threescore and seven.

Adonikam could mean “whom the Lord sets up” or “the Lord is raised” or to mean “God standing up against His foes”. To be up is to be strong … and when God arises all His enemies are scattered. The Bible refers to saints as seated in heavenly places above principalities and powers …far above witchcraft and powers of darkness. So why are we defeated in business or face problems in our homes …when we are also more than conquerors. More often we are deceived to hand over our already won victories to the enemy … and we do this when we become unequally yoked in politics, business and even in marriage invite the devil as our in-law.

When the Lord is raised in our praise, indeed every knee must bow … but the knees of hell do not bow to our entertainment and self pleasing dances which some have called praise. In business and especially politics you must watch carefully what you are yoked to … God may decide not to set you up if you are chained to an evil force as a partner …. nor will He bless a marriage that gives rights to the devil to visit your home. Be careful in these matters. Who are your partners? Examine all your close relationships … see if there are links that should be cut off …then do so. Let God take the glory for all your victories. What fellowship does light have with darkness?

2Ch_6:41 Now therefore arise, O LORD God, into thy resting place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O LORD God, be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints rejoice in goodness.

Verses for further meditation

Isaiah 60:1-2; Malachi 4:2

Thoughts for Business and the work place

The competition fears action and not just ideas. Until ideas are converted to action steps. Leaders have disciplined methods to manage action steps in a manner that produces results.

Lord, teach us to fear you and trust in your strength. Amen.

A Strong Army

Nehemiah 7:17 The children of Azgad, two thousand three hundred twenty and two.

The word Azgad often refers to “a strong army ” but also a gang of robbers … used also for an attacking predator. It is good to build and be part of a strong army … have the mindset of spiritual war even in business and the workplace. Be part of God’s attacking force and NOT the devil’s mob.

You will need to be strong …do not lose your joy, for your strength is under siege and all forms of discouraging thoughts want to settle in your mind. You need to resist them. Be aware that there is also a devouring army of wasters and destroyers targeting your destiny. You cannot expect a great destiny of leadership not to be scrutinized by evil predators.  Be wary … be careful in whom you will trust. Watch for bitterness in times of betrayal …keep the accounts short, forgiving quickly. The army must be defended with weapons but remember that your weapons are not carnal. Be certain that in politics, business and ministry – you remain well armed with the full armor prescribed in the word of God.  Remember to always put the armor on. The armor is useless when it is on exhibition for people to admire.

The times of victory and celebration are the most vulnerable moments …be even more cautious and prayerful in those situations.

2Co 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

Verses for further meditation

Ephesians 6:11-18; Romans 12:12

Thoughts for Business and the work place

Business Strategy borrows extensively from military warfare methods in evolving its best concepts.

Suggestions for Prayer

Lord, teach me to win and build according to your way and pattern …not anyhow. Amen.

Bebai

Nehemiah 7:16 The children of Bebai, six hundred twenty and eight

Bebai is a word said to have uncertain meaning. Meanings suggested including “precious son” or “void” or “baby”. The Bible speaks of a void in the beginning … Gen_1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

But the Spirit of God moved. Great things can come out of nothing. A great child was borne of a virgin in a manger. Do not mourn your emptiness …instead allow the Spirit of God to move …and see what can happen. Perhaps you have a very important decision and you are empty, void of any leading as to what to do …or you are so low, you think it is time to resign from board and call it quits. But I see differently … I see a new baby coming out of your nothing … a great invention that needed the void to be incubated by the Holy Spirit. Take time out for a personal retreat …spending more time than ever with God and His word. Pray for a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit. God will start a fresh phase in that business or project.

Even the void was an asset, to enable a new beginning. Tear up your mood of resignation. Go and hear first the Spirit of God ministering to your spirit. Consider Naomi, … she ended well, though initially emptied.

Rth_1:21 I went out full, and the LORD hath brought me home again empty: why then call ye me Naomi, seeing the LORD hath testified against me, and the Almighty hath afflicted me?

Verses for further meditation

Isaiah 55:11; Luke 1:53

Thoughts for Business and the work place

Leaders know how to start again …again and again

Lord, fill me afresh with your Holy Spirit. Amen.

Children of Binnui

Nehemiah 7:15 The children of Binnui, six hundred forty and eight

Binnui derives from the root-verb (bana) which means to build. It is used to describe the construction of all kinds of buildings; a city, a tower an altar, a house, the temple, a fortress or a wall.

There are builders and there are destroyers. May you be granted the gift to discern the difference. But there are also people who are like well fortified buildings and others resembling dipalidated constructions with porous walls. The leaders must spend a lot of time on self-development. Reading and studying to show himself approved as the person called to give direction. Significant investment and time has gone into a well constructed building …care has been taken to provide the best fittings. Spend more money on books and training than on cars and vain possessions. Read biographies to see how lives are built …day by day experiences can enrich our lives if we commit to get better at what we do.

We are also God’s altar … meant to be pure … God’s temple. Society will think little of alcohol, tobacco and many unmentionable defilements now considered to be entertainment …but you are different careful not to defile God’s temple – your body, where God wants to dwell. Show example as a leader who is well built …fearfully put together by God and for God.

Eph 2:22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

Verses for further meditation

Ephesians 2:19-22; Jude 1:20

Thoughts for Business and the work place

Leaders know that they must invest much more to build themselves than on consumption

Suggestions for Prayer

Lord, help and show me how to be God’s building. Amen.

Transparent

Nehemiah 7:14 The children of Zaccai, seven hundred and threescore.

The Zaccai is related to the concept of being a primitive root … to be transparent or (made) clean (physically or morally):–be (make) clean, be pure, transparency. There is something innocent, primitive and pure about transparency. A baby cries when in need and smiles when pleased. The adult cries when pleased but can smile in the worst situation …as we grow we learn to mask our motives and plans and this progresses into a dark guile of the Machiavellian …often wrongly promoted as a model for leadership.

We are not transparent, because we fear disadvantage if we are open and plain. But when we are honest, open and innocent we demonstrate that we lean on God and depend on Him for our victory. Far too many victories are the masterpieces of plots and wicked conspiracies in the board room, you wonder how glory will ever be attributed to God by onlookers. But the triumph of Joseph was the victory of innocence … imbibe the art of transparency, make it your everyday habit. Shun veils and offers to protect your vision through opaque plots that are not clear even to you … the snake hides under the secret floors in which you gather to plan that which cannot be openly discussed. Be transparent in award of contracts, in recruiting, in rewarding others and in sharing your dreams and visions. Others will find it not sophisticated …but you are different … seen as a “primitive root”.

Verses for further meditation

Rev 14:5 ; I Peter 2:1

Thoughts for Business and the work place

Keep an open door policy. Close down the gossip shops. Encourage people to speak their mind especially when in the minority. Publish the facts … Do not use information to manipulate rather be innocent in thought, word and deed. Do not encourage conspirators to come to you.

Suggestions for Prayer

Lord, teach me purity and how to be innocent in my relations with others. Amen.

Zattu

Nehemiah 7:13 The children of Zattu, eight hundred forty and five.

The name suggests a young plant growth, such as a bud or shoot or something resembling or suggestive of a sprout, as in rapid growth. But a sprout has spent some time being rooted … the time of taking root is unseen.

Job 14:7 For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease. 8 Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground; 9 Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.

.

Christ is our hope, the tree that was cut down, yet its tender branch does not cease, bringing forth boughs. Be encouraged to know that many leaders have been cut down, have experienced intense moments of failure only to come back stronger than ever. It is useful to read the chronicles on men and women of accomplishment and you will see so many sad occasions of falling, that you will conclude this must be over now. But not so, they come up again into the ring and keep fighting. Get up again … shoot up again and defy the enemy …it is not over for you. Step back into the ring. Almost all great business men made unusual and exceptional comebacks after major downturns.

Remember David at Ziklag … begin by encouraging yourself. Find someone to strengthen, to encourage.

Verses for further meditation

1 Samuel 30:1-8 ; Luke 22:32

Thoughts for Business and the work place

You have not failed. You have only gone through an invaluable learning experience on what will not work. .

Elam

Nehemiah 7:12 The children of Elam, a thousand two hundred fifty and four

The word Elam alludes to the hidden secrets of the future. The name suggests “the hidden things”. God has His secrets and mysteries. But they are exposed freely to his disciples and prophets and His children. A father with hidden wisdom will cherish opportunities to teach his own many things that others may not know. In this devotional, I encourage you to appreciate the pearls of God’s wisdom …they are not commonly known or appreciated and have often been trampled upon.

Because God has revealed many mysteries to His own, it may be difficult to lead people who do not see what you see. Like Moses who knew God and His ways trying to lead millions who only saw His acts … this can be very frustrating. You will need patience or you will go ahead of yourself … you will need to wait for the best timings and be prepared to be misunderstood. But being a majority of one will be painful when betrayal mixed with accusation drag you to the court of human opinion … a court in which your case will not find an advocate. But like Moses, you must wait for God to defend you …often finding yourself interceding that the eyes of many will be opened to see perhaps only a glimpse of the hidden things that have been shown to you.

Verses for further meditation

1 Cor 2:7 ; Ephesians 5:32

Thoughts for Business and the work place

Leaders see what others do not see. They need much patience because of their rare vision and the hidden wisdom of God revealed to them.

Suggestions for Prayer

Lord, teach me your ways. Amen

Jeshua and Joab

Nehemiah 7:11 The children of Pahathmoab, of the children of Jeshua and Joab, two thousand and eight hundred and eighteen

Jeshua means deliverer while Joab means Jehohavah is our father. When we consider both, it brings to the fore a great truth. Fatherhood matters … the origin of our ideas is at the root of our success and deliverance. There are many inventions, but are they all fathered by the God of Heaven. I have often wondered at many new technologies and capabilities …new presentations in music and the arts and have come to the conclusion that they cannot all be from our Heavenly Father. In short, what God did not originate will not deliver us, rather it will destroy us. Ponder over that technology and reflect on its origin and purpose and how it has been used. Even an earthly father will not give his child a snake, use this test to determine what has come from God and what has not.

Be sensitive to the fact that it is not all ideas that are godly … be discerning in the application of new inventions but God is also creative …He is the uncreated Creator … the most creative designer of the entire universe. Surely there is so much we are yet to discover in Him and through Him. Ask Him for revelation and more discernment today concerning your endeavors.

Verses for further meditation

Isaiah 40:28 ; Romans 1:25

Thoughts for Business and the work place

Creativity has its sources. The God of Heaven is the ultimate source of true Creativity for He is the only uncreated Creator. Some ideas are not from God.

Suggestions for Prayer

Lord, You are my father …keep me away from all other sources of creativity. Amen
