Broody Bad Boy Swimmer Romance!
“How dare you?” His voice was quiet and calm, the way it made me feel anything but. His strong, unhurried stroke carried him closer like a predator sure he’d catch his prey.
“W-what?” The question fell from my trembling lip.
“I came here to swim. To escape. To remember.”
Soon, he would be close enough to touch.
“You interrupted me. Distracted me. Made it impossible to think.”
Anticipation turned me jittery. His veiled anger made the blood in my veins zing.
“You’re a fucking siren. Luring me with that vibrant green stare, running your mouth like you want me to shut you up. Tsk-tsk.” His tongue clicked with disappointment. “I gave you a chance, little siren.”
I felt myself nod, happy I’d disappointed him. Hoping he’d punish me for it.
“I gave you a chance to get away.” His hand encircled my ankle. A threat. A promise there was no getting away now.
I said nothing. I was pretty sure my voice wouldn’t even work.
“And what did you do?” he mused. “Buried yourself in my hoodie and let loose that wild mane of hair. I’d call it a halo, but we both know you’re no angel.”
I felt my nose wrinkle. My hair is not wild.
He let loose a deep sound, his hand sliding from my ankle to squeeze my calf. All my attention snapped back to him, and I watched satisfaction burn like coal in his onyx eyes.
“I’m in a mood, little siren. I’m in a mood, and you lured me in.”
Water rained off him when he pulled himself out of the pool. Cold droplets splattered everywhere, but I didn’t notice because he towered over me in nothing but those flimsy wet boxers that had no chance of concealing the impressive bulge beneath them.
After just a moment of allowing me to stare, he offered his hand. “Can you withstand my storm?”

I did as requested, holding out my arms and rotating so he could see my back. “What are you doing?” I asked, flushing under his shrewd gaze.
His hand curled around my waist, palm flattening on my stomach to pull me flush against his chest. “Checking you for bruises.”
I jolted, glancing over my shoulder at him. “What?”
“You got in the middle of someone swinging at me. Did you think I wouldn’t check you for marks?”
My mouth opened and closed. Finally, I said, “He didn’t touch me.”
His voice dropped an octave, and a rumble vibrated his chest. “Like I’d stand there and let that happen.”
“Then why do you need to look at me for bruises?”
He was being ridiculous. Territorial and possessive. And it was dark in here.
“Because you’re mine.” He was completely irrational, and I parted my lips to tell him just that, but he kept going. “Because no one has ever been so fiercely protective of me. So blindly loyal. Because you literally rushed into the middle of two grown men fighting without a thought for your own safety.”
“I wasn’t worried about me. I was worried about you,” I protested, getting upset all over again remembering the way his head snapped back when Bodhi hit him.
“And that is why I will protect every inch of you. Why you will indulge every urge I have to look over all this creamy skin and make sure the most important thing in my entire life is intact,” he said, pressing his face into my neck again to growl. “God help any man who ever puts a mark on you. Who ever threatens what is mine.”
