Episode 111: (Part 1of2) Analogies are Destroying the Country

Topics:

NO people in this discussion want to separate kids from parents

Short-term solutions INCREASE the long-term problem
Short-term solutions INCREASE the number of kids in this situation over time
Half the country believes other half is okay with child abuse

Analogies aren’t thinking
When kids are stressed…

Our human natural reaction is to care and help them
That natural reaction inhibits our ability to think objectively and long-term

Alan Dershowitz observation

Death camp analogy is a form of holocaust denial

All laws and penalties are deterrents

Episode 109: How to Fix the Border “Cages” Situation Using Psychology

Topics:

A complete failure by Democrats, Republicans, President Trump

Democrats won’t fix because it’s a GREAT election issue
Republicans won’t fix because nobody on either side has a viable alternative

The solution needs to address BOTH the short-term and long-term

Republicans are the “Parental” party, long-term thinking
Democrats are the “Why can’t we only eat candy?” party, short-term thinking

Physical components of the issue

They’re fleeing danger and hunger to come here
The holding facilities are better than what they are fleeing from
The holding facilities are temporary

Psychological components of the Issue

Public focus makes the issue important
MSM riding the issue mercilessly
Manufactured hysteria for political advantage
Liberal propaganda?  YES
Very effective?  YES

System to allow parents to view their kids in separate holding facility?

See that the kids are there and okay

Episode 107: The Holocaust Movie Half the Country is Experiencing

Topics:

President Trump’s tweet about the WAPO employee’s wage strike
General Michael Hayden holocaust tweet

Evil but effective persuasion technique
Scott’s reply to General Hayden’s overwrought analogy

Kids temporarily separated from parents after arrest at border

Are the kids held in a situation better than where they came from?
Happiness relies on the contrast between where you are and where you came from

Halfpinions versus opinions

Full opinions contain the alternative you prefer
Halfpinions only state your objection

Climate change: Red Team vs. Blue Team

Topic importance seems to have faded

Anti-Trumpers are lacking the “and” part of their opinions

Complaints without stating the impact (the “and” portion)
Complaints without offering an alternative option

Episode 106: The Children in Cages

Topics:

Kids in cages, bad…and nobody has a viable alternative?

Fraudulent, but deeply effective persuasion
Lacks factual accuracy
Untrue, misleading
Out of context
Could be solved tomorrow
Why is it so effective?  Cause facts don’t matter

Cognitive dissonance example: anti-Trump laundry lists

Their initial gigantic fears about President Trump didn’t manifest
But they’re the “smart ones” in the conversation
So new fears are needed to replace the faded ones
If you can’t find a sufficiently big fear, you need lots of little ones

George Lakoff’s dilemma

Highly qualified cognitive expert
He sees and understands that…
President Trump is using skill and experience consistently
But 99% of his side believe it’s just luck
George’s problem?  Facts don’t matter

Episode 105: Immigrant Kids, OIG Report, Being Friends With Chairman Kim

Topics:

Separating parents from children…bad, yes, everyone agrees

What’s your alternative?
Why aren’t critics offering an alternative they would prefer?

OIG report, clear example of two movies on one screen

500 page report guarantees everyone can see what they want to see
My prediction that Comey was being “a patriot” with his Clinton email actions
Alan Dershowitz opinion on Comey’s actions contains an element of mind reading
Should Lynch have made the decision (proper protocol) rather than Comey?
Would there have been worse repercussions if Comey had followed proper protocols?
OIG report exonerates Comey, although he broke the rules

President Trump’s impromptu meeting with reporters outside White House this morning

“Biscuit on nose” analogy for the MSM

POTUS handling of the kneelers
Trump Foundation investigation
Crimea…reasonable questions

Why do we care if Russia has Crimea?
What do the Crimean people want?
If we don’t know…shouldn’t we ask?

California split-up,  should they?

Topics:

President Trump’s video for Chairman Kim

“Enemy press” is painting it as weird and ineffective
Persuasion works…even when you understand the techniques being used on you

Dave Rubin’s interview with Sam Harris

Sam is developing an affection for people on right
In general, the people on the right are the nicest
Generally, people on the right are nicer to me, even when we disagree
Prioritizing the truth
Prioritizing the best result

In politics, facts don’t matter

Reason and truth work in almost every realm of life…except politics
Politics has ALWAYS been 100% BS
President Trump just does more of it…and better than anyone else
The outcome is better results

Hit piece by Michael Martin of Metro

Personal identity
Group identity

Topics:

Everything given by both sides so far…can be easily taken away

Is that good?
Building trust
It’s missing the point to ask “Who’s ahead?”

Punchy De Niro
