Author Visits for Free - Really?
Recently I asked a more experienced author her opinion on why book orders do or don’t happen related to school author visits. Truth is, I’ve had great book orders and no book orders following my visits.
That initial question led to a discussion of charging for author visits. You see, I offer my visits for free. This author, and most others in my experience, offer larger-scale visits for a price. From her perspective (and she’s not alone, I’ve heard these points before):
1. Schools may not take you seriously if you don’t charge a fee. Paying for an author visit leads the school to ramp up the excitement around the visit and promote the author’s books.
2. Your time is worth something. You should be compensated.
3. You’ll earn more respect if you charge.

2) How to arrange author visits?
3) Preparation: content and presentation
and in the next 2 days I'll be discussing:
4) Valuable tools for author visits?
5) whether author visits are effective for book promotion

Free book for you to read and review
For a limited time, I am giving away a complimentary epub file of my book Fright Flight for those interested in READING and RATING OR REVIEWING my debut early middle grade chapter book on both Goodreads and Amazon (and any other book sites you might like).
Why? Honestly, as a new author with a small publishing company, getting notice is the hardest part. You can help me.
You can read more about Fright Flight on Goodreads and see other reviews. I will say that this is the first book in a series aimed at kids 7-10 years old. It's short, simple and lends itself to exploring more about the characters, their adventures and dream seeking in future books.
I modeled the series for children moving on from Magic Tree House, Secrets of Droon, How to Train Your Dragon and Geronimo Stilton.
If you're interested, send your e-mail address to me via Goodreads and I'll contact you from my yahoo account. I have epub and pdf files available.
