2 Weeks!
In a little over Two WEEKS my memoir BREATHE will be published and released to the world! Holy shiz-nit.
I’m scared, excited, anxious, nervous and profoundly humbled by the entire process.
PROFOUNDLY HUMBLED.
Please come see me.
Please come celebrate the release.
I am profoundly humbled by so many people who have helped me tremendously throughout this entire process.
Brandy Grey for her tireless work in editing.
Micah Reese for his beautiful photograph I was honored to use as my cover, and his lovely wife Bree who is fearless in agreeing to be the face of this little journey.
Allen Sparks for all of the graphic design work (and last minute changes).
Nye Walker for his amazing genius in creating a website for me that is AMAZING (check it out HERE)
And the hundreds of other people who held my hand when I needed it, hugged me when I cried, and celebrated little victories when I had them. This has been the hardest and most satisfying project I have ever worked on.
Thank you. For everything. Your support, encouragement and patience with me has meant the world.
The books are scheduled to arrive on November 7th for the party on the 10th…. hold your breath and hang on. The ride isn’t over until the champagne glasses have been filled and we can all BREATHE together!
I can’t wait to see you there.
Hugs for everyone!

October is a time of orbits
An excerpt from my upcoming book Breathe
(which you can pre-order here).
************************
“October in the desert is full of Indian summers, shadowy figures and light dancers. It is full of hauntings and autumn leaves. It is the marriage and synastry of hot summer days and cold nights. It is the smell of death and summer dust being burned away with the fields. Plump harvest, slaughter and dry lightning. Watermelons and warm rain. It is glistening bruised sunsets and florescent pink-orange dawn. Back and forth, waves of an oceanic desert.
October is a time of orbits.
It is the smell of crisp leaves, crinkling and dancing down the street with the breeze. It is football season, high school dances and dress-up. Faces of created and hollowed out ghouls await with heavy anticipation of dusk and the lighting of a fire in their bellies to beacon forth those masked and caped.
October, a time of elliptical orbits and climactic points. A time where decisions reverberate through my space with more weight than mass. A month of death and performances, thunderstorms and perfect Indian summers. A month of ghouls, crispy pies and see-through leaves.”
*********************
I hope you can join me at the Release party
I hope you will buy my book when it comes out.
But most important, I hope you enjoy this beautiful orbital month of October.

We are all in this together.
There are some truths in life and death.
First is, We are all in this together.
We are together in this human experience and united in all of our disappointments, laughter, fear and as my (fabulous, amazing, unbelievably gentle) editor pointed out, even our pain and broken dreams. In my life, 90% of the time when someone asks “What happened?” They really didn’t want to know, but more importantly, I didn’t want to tell.
Until now.
Until I was shown by a few amazing people that YES, we ARE all in this together. Then I had the strength. Strength reflected from them. The strength, bravery and courage they showed that propelled me to write and expunge the secrets of my soul. Secrets I had carried around in life like stones in my pockets. This book Breathe is honest, raw, real and as my editor has reminded me time and time again, that honesty and truthfulness is powerful.
Second, you can never escape death.
Someday, sometime every singe person will have to face it.
Why do I bring this up? Because, obviously, as you might have heard, I just finished my memoir. (Usually, one would write something like this at the END of their life. See the correlation here?)
Anyway, I am really excited (nervous, scared, happy, anxious, etc, etc) it is being released (worldwide!) on November 10, 2012 (You can pre-order a copy HERE)
I have been asked (or heard):
“What is this book about?”
“You don’t seem old enough to write a memoir, why should I read it?”
“I don’t know you. Why should I care about your story?”
This is what I have to say:
The book is about life. See Truth #1 (above). My experiences are your experiences. We have shared the same breath, the same flesh, bones, water and the same giant water covered rock which floats through the infinite space of our universe. AND… we will all share in death (see point #2). The number of years alive are never correctly reflective of the number of life-altering experiences.
As of today, there has been only one person who has read this book in its entirety…. my beautiful and amazing editor Brandy Grey. AND She was gracious enough to write me an editor’s note to add into the book. Here is a small excerpt of what she wrote:
“I read it in one sitting. It was dismantling and wry – but not affected or contrived. Structured in the cacophonous moments we sweep away if we can until our chaotic, adrenaline-filled last breath of air, when all things come full circle. This book is not just a collection of transgressions, mistakes and triumphs. In Breathe, Rae Jones walks the threshold between the dead and the living.”
She has been tough with me. Pushed me to my limits and hugged me when I needed it. She smashed through bottles of Champagne with me when I couldn’t do anything else.
If you are interested in this story, you can pre-order HERE (All pre-orders will be first-printing, signed copies).
AND/OR
You can join me in the BIG release party in Portland on November 10th
Even if you can’t make it, even if you aren’t interested, please raise a glass on that day to all of those who share our same space rock and never get a chance to tell their story.

Tell me something good.
Whenever someone tells me a scary story, I ask them when they are done to, “Tell me something good.”
Perhaps hoping to wipe the scariness from my mind with thoughts of unicorns and rainbows.
Sometimes I would get a funny story, and sometimes I would just get a funny look and they would walk away.
But I think that this ‘Tell me something good’ could serve a bigger purpose.
It gives hope.
It re-focuses our thoughts and minds on the positive things in life. It gives us a chance to step back and have gratitude for everything we have around us.
So, I like to hear your ‘something good’s. Tell me something good.
It could be anything at all.
Something good that you have done. Something you have read, watched or heard.
Tell me something good you ate or went to.
Tell me something good you are planning to do or something good going on on your life.
Did you have a great conversation?
A delicious meal?
Hear an awesome new song?
Read an amazing book?
Comment and TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD!

It’s election season…..
It’s election season.
Which means there are passionate people with legitimate causes shouting the holy scripture of socialism to believe’rs, and hope’rs, and change’rs. GO VOTE!
Good luck.
To both of you, all of you, the world of you.
The world. Of you.
The world is a big place. A giant, beautiful, wonderful place. The world is full of mystery. Adventure. Love and incredible sadness. Our world brings us together under one sun.
My mother taught me to never discuss politics, religion or sex over the dinner table. AND, although I never really listened to my mother, it seems as though, that is the only thing everyone is talking about. Guess I won’t be invited to dinner any time soon.
*shrug*
Oh well. I wanted to take a bath and paint my toenails anyway….
…and just wait until my partner comes home so we can have dinner together and worry about our IRA’s, and our supply of white gas.
