Where I’ll be during #T4G18

It’s conference time! I’m here in Louisville for Together for the Gospel—my first as a member of The Gospel Project team. This year’s event promises to be pretty intense, with about 12,000 people in attendance to be encouraged and inspired by messages from the likes of Albert Mohler, Mark Dever, Matt Chandler, and many more speakers, as well as in the conversations they’ll be having with friends and ministry partners over the next few days.

And, of course, getting lots of free books.

(And by...

Podcast: on the latest episode of The Hero of the Story, Brian and I discuss finding Christ in the hard to read books of the Bible (like Leviticus).

Humanity’s Fall and God’s Redemption

Samantha Sykora:

Do you feel it – that gnawing desire for more that often diverts you onto a quest for contentment in all the wrong places? Maybe you feel that insatiable lust for attention or approval that enslaves you to vanity and fear of man? Maybe you feel that sideways glance mixed of envy and greed as...

S3, Ep. 9: When good books become great movies

Reading Writers is back in the studio this week with a new episode. On this episode, Dave and I continue our discussion of movie adaptations and books. In part two of our series on this important topic, we talk books that have been made into great movies—sometimes better than the original books themselves! Listen in as we discuss:

The time Schwarzenegger starred in a movie based on a Stephen King story. The differences between a book and a movie. A gigantic list from our friends on Facebook...

Should We Give Up On Evangelicalism?

This is worth listening to.

Can Social Media Be Saved?

Kevin Roose:

You’ve probably experienced it yourself. Maybe it’s the way you feel while scrolling through your Twitter feed — anxious, twitchy, a little world weary — or your unease when you see a child watching YouTube videos, knowing she’s just a few algorithmic nudges away from a rabbit hole filled with lunatic conspiracies and gore. Or maybe it was this month’s Facebook privacy scandal, which remi...

What I read in March

Another month has come and gone, and with it more reading! As you know, I am always consuming books, whether they’re physical, digital or audio. Every month, I like to share a breakdown of everything I read, including the books I abandoned. I do this because it gives me an opportunity to introduce you to books you might not have had an opportunity to read while practicing the art of writing concise book reviews.

In March, I read 12 books to completion, and started a couple of others. Here’s...

Kate Shellnut:

Twenty Christian colleges, universities, and seminaries have raised $1.5 million in scholarships to offer minority students in Memphis as part of a new initiative in honor of Martin Luther King Jr., who was assassinated there 50 years ago today.

Join us for The Gospel At The Center on May 21st

The gospel resurgence, gospel-centeredness, or being saturated in the gospel—whatever language you prefer, they all come down to the same thing: being a community where our doctrine and discipleship practices work together to establish a gospel culture. One where our theology and our way of life match.

That’s one of the reasons I’m excited about our new webcast, The Gospel at the Center, an on-demand online event that looks at how the gospel shapes the culture of your whole church. Join us on...

S3, Ep. 8: When good books become bad movies

Reading Writers is back in the studio this week with a new episode. On this episode, Dave and I talk about a subject near and dear to Dave’s heart: movies! That’s right, we’re talking movies on the podcast about reading. But it’s cool because we’re talking about what happens when good (and even kind of okay) books become really bad movies. Listen in as we discuss:

What makes for a bad adaptation What happens when studios make movies How Aaron really feels about Justice League Dave admits to...

Is there beauty in death?

An adapted post from Devotional Doctrine, my new book written for The Gospel Project.

Good Friday, Billy Graham, and the Transcendent Gospel

Ed Stetzer:

Rev. Graham dedicated his life to the importance of this day: an encounter with the crucified Christ changes everything. When Jesus bore the burden of our sins on the cross he paved the way for us to accept his free gift of forgiveness and ultimately be reunited with him.

Like a shepherd gathering his sheep, there i...
