SQUIRRELS ARE SO CUTE
G'day folks,
I love these little guys, but they are not easy to photograph, because they are so quick. The first time I saw one was many years ago in the grounds of the White House in Washington DC. Since then, I've snapped them all over the world, especially in Thailand where they are known as 'Garott'. Here are some snaps taken by other photographers.

Clancy's comment: Very cute. One of my many shots of these quirky animals is below.

14 September 2020 - A BUNCH OF FUNNY SIGNS ABOUT CATS

A BUNCH OF FUNNY SIGNS ABOUT CATS
G'day folks,
Cats will one day rule the Universe, but for now, they simply rule our minds and the internet.
Cat jokes are a classic category of entertainment you can find on the internet, along with breathtakingly adorable photos and videos of cats just being catty . Nobody has better cat jokes than your local Veterinarian. These Vet Clinics have put up the most ‘hilarical’ (hilarious + hysterical), pun-tastic and some uncannily accurate signs devoted to our furry feline friends.

Clancy's comment: Some of these are very accurate, and obviously written by cat owners.

13 September 2020 - FUNNY WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHS

FUNNY WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHS
G'day folks,
Wildlife photography documents various forms of wildlife in their natural habitat. It is a serious business and provides us with rare and engaging insights into the natural world.
However, wildlife photographers often capture the humorous side of nature as well, where animals tend to be unwittingly funny. The Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards has been aiming to showcase such pictures for the last few years. Every year, they present a wonderful array of photographs demonstrating the comedic moments of wild animals in their natural surroundings.
The idea behind this unique competition, according to the website, is that “humor and positivity have a major role to play in building awareness, interest and eventually action towards protecting the animals that live on this planet.” Here, are some of the best entries from 2019’s Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards. This is nature at its funniest!

Clancy's comment: Love most of these, especially the young chimp kicking back. Thank you to the photographers for sharing their work.

OIL PAINTINGS THAT LOOK LIKE PHOTOGRAPHS
G'day folks,
Some people continue to surprise me.
Whether you are an art connoisseur or not, one cannot help but marvel at a beautiful landscape. Now, you are likely to have seen plenty of great landscape paintings in your life, but there is something about a nicely done photorealistic art piece that is just incredibly captivating.
Artist Michael James Smith 's works are worth following, as he takes great inspiration in the nature that surrounds him and depicts it with mind-boggling realism. Smith’s immaculate oil paintings portray a myriad of shades of white sandy beaches, snow-capped mountains, tranquil crystal lakes, and verdant forests. Looking at them from a distance, one is sure to feel that they are real photographs rather than oil paintings. Smith’s passion for the natural environment pushed him to try his hand at landscape painting at a young age and over the years he has really learned to get a grip on his craft. For his photorealistic pieces, the artist makes use of numerous brushes to place and blend layers of color while also fine-tuning the painting with minute details. Now, check out his beautiful work ...

Clancy's comment: Stunning detail, eh? Thank you, Michael. Love ya work!

10 September 2020 - GHOST TOWNS AROUND THE WORLD

GHOST TOWNS AROUND THE WORLD
G'day folks,
We've all seen abandoned towns, places and whole countries on TV or silver screens, and I've featured many on this blog.
Be it a horror movie or a post-apocalyptic show, the eerie images of what was once a settlement full of life could feel truly uncanny and give us a chill down the spine. Although, away from our regular hustle and bustle of everyday life, such small towns exist all around the world.
Ghost towns are abandoned settlements, usually ones that contain substantial visible remains. There are many reasons why a town becomes a ghost town, like economic decline, war, natural disasters, or pollution. These abandoned places are usually completely uninhabited.
However, some ghost towns have very small populations. Some of the towns are restricted, and access to them is at times forbidden, while others are turned into tourist attractions or parks. Scroll down below to see some of the most interesting ghost towns and scary places around the world.

Clancy's comment: Some of these are incredible, and many would make wonderful holiday homes. What a waste, eh?

8 September 2020 - Mt. Huashan's Dangerous Trail

Mt. Huashan's Dangerous Trail
G'day folks,
I hate heights, and writing this post made the hairs dance on the back of my neck.

Mt. Huashan is famous for its egregious cliffs. One cliff seems to be steeper than the previous one. The temple for God of Mt. Huashan is situated on the South Peak, one of the most difficult cliffs to climb. If you like adventure vacations it is absolutely the place to go. It’s dangerous, tough and exciting!

Traditionally, only the giant plateau with its summits to the south of the peak Wuyun Feng ( Five Cloud Summit) was called Taihua Shan (Great Flower Mountain). It could only be accessed through the ridge known as Canglong Ling (Dark Dragon Ridge) until a second trail was built in the 1980s to go around Canglong Ling. Three peaks were identified with respective summits: the East, South, and West peaks.

The East peak consists of four summits. The highest summit is Zhaoyang Feng (Facing Yang Summit, i.e. the summit facing the sun).
Its elevation is reported to be 2096.2 meters and its name is often used as the name for the whole East Peak. To the east of Zhaoyang Feng is Shilou Feng (Stone Tower Summit), to the south is Botai Feng ( Broad Terrace Summit) and to the west is Yunű Feng (Jade Maiden Summit). Today, Yunű Feng considered its own peak, most central on the mountain.

The South peak consists of three summits. The highest summit is Luoyan Feng (Landing Goose Summit), with an elevation of 2154.9 meters. To the east is Songgui Feng (Pines and Junipers Summit), and to the west is Xiaozi Feng (Filial Son Summit).

Clancy's comment: Not for me. No way! However, I do wonder who built it, and how many lost their lives in the process.
