When I was in Vienna, in November, for the premiere of Chuzpe (You Gotta Have Balls in English) at the Kammerspiel Theatre, I frequented my favorite cafe, the Cafe Eiles, where I, way too frequently, overdosed on their fabulous Topfen Strudel. I have just found out that a photograph of me has now joined the ranks of photographs on the walls of the cafe of the many writers who have been and still are regulars at Cafe Eiles. I am thrilled. I think I may actually be positioned quite close to the legendary Topfen Strudel itself.

This is what I did today. And this is why by the end of the day my arm and shoulder ached. The very first thing I cooked, five and a half weeks after my shoulder surgery, when my arm was still supposed to be in a sling, was twenty pounds of turkey and vegetable strudel. Six large strudels. They may not look like the more delicate looking Viennese strudels, but they look good to me. I have not been able to write or type properly or cook. So this batch of cooking felt so satisfying and made me feel as though life may soon be back to normal or what passes for normal if you like to cook in bulk as I do.

Thank you so much for your good wishes. I was so touched. Look after your shoulders. Rotator cuff surgery is no picnic. I am typing with one finger of my left hand. So slow.
