You guys don't do anything for diversifying adult fiction and that's s huge failing of your campaign. And saying you are all volunteers is a bullshit answer meaning you didn't care enough or think about including adult fiction in the first place. If you ne

The amount of complaining emails I get every week about how we don’t do x,y, and z is frustrating. I think there are a lot of people out there who want change, but are unwilling to do the work needed to make change happen. It is so easy to sit on your sofa and point accusing fingers at people about how they aren’t doing enough to address the problem. But it is NOT as easy to do the work that makes the slow but steady change that can happen. Because it is a lot of work. And also because we hav...

This one is for the writers . . .

This one is for the writers . . .:

phoebenorthauthor:

This one is for the writers who did not sell a book today.

This one is for the writers who today have heard “no” or “maybe” or “not yet” or “are you open to revisions?”

This one is for the writers whose books have not been optioned.

This one is for the writers who are tetherless, free-floating,…

Yes, Phoebe’s right.

When you are hurting, there will always be people who find a way to make it about themselves. If you break your wrist, they’ll complain about a sprained ankle. If you are sad, they’re sadder. If you’re asking for help, they’ll demand more attention.

Here is a fact: I was in a hospital and sobbing into my palms when a woman approached me and asked why I was making so much noise and I managed to stutter that my best friend shot himself in the head and now he was 100% certified dead and she ma...

ink-splotch:

What if, when Petunia Dursley found a little boy on her front doorstep, she took him in? Not into the cupboard under the stairs, not into a twisted childhood of tarnished worth and neglect–what if she took him in?

Petunia was jealous, selfish and vicious. We will not pretend she wasn’t. She looked at that boy on her doorstep and thought about her Dudders, barely a month older than this boy. She looked at his eyes and her stomach turned over and over. (Severus Snape saved Harry’s...

I’m an author of young adult fiction and I write about girls. My newest novel, All the Rage, examines the shame and silence inflicted on young women in a culture that refuses to protect them. It’s about a girl who is ostracized by her community for speaking up about an assault. The absence of support takes a huge emotional toll on her.

Over the years, I’ve received incredible responses to my work; from readers who love and relate to my f...

catagator:

Doing some writing research and part of the mission was a raw count of books on the main display at a big chain bookstore. I went to a Barnes & Noble in Crystal Lake, Illinois, this weekend, and I took photos of the entire octagon. It’s the first display you see as you walk in.

There was one book I couldn’t identify from the picture, so I didn’t include it. But if you want to believe the lies that women are featured on bookstore displays more than men, you’re in for it.

senoreissa:

So, this happened. Bill Maher, renowned liberal commentator and“realist” who believes Islam is a religion of aggression and violence, took a jab at former One Direction member Zayn Malik during an episode of his HBO show. Look, Zayn is a 22-year-old British-Pakistani from a Muslim family and what Maher made was a tired, low joke that put a hardworking brown musician’s face next to that of a known terrorist who just happens to kind of look like Zayn. It’s appalling. It’s offensiv...
