On March 14th, 2015, The Telegraph published an article titled “Are you reading too many books by straight white men”. The article states that “a growing online voice is imploring readers to stop buying books written by white, heterosexual men” before incorrectly implying that We Need…

In Which I Keep Talking

In Which I Keep Talking:

tessagratton:

Thursday evening an editor at Vice.com invited me to share comments with her regarding the discussion of sexism in Andrew Smith’s comments in their interview. She sent me a few questions and I answered them. Just now, she posted her article with comments from myself and a few other interested…

Regarding BONE GAP

Last night I blurted out a series of tweets on this topic - a typically shrewd move, Tweeting on a late Saturday night - but I felt like, oh, I don’t know, expounding a bit, so here we are. Here I am, at any rate. It’s uncertain how much of a WE is happening here, but anyway.

weneeddiversebooks:

The WNDB team is proud to host the launch of LITTLE MISS EVIL from Spencer Hill Press, by our very own Bryce & Kristy!

When you live in a volcano, ride to school in a helicopter, and regularly see your dad on the news with the caption “EVIL GENIUS” underneath his picture, it takes a lot to rattle you.
Until you get a message that says: We have your father. Deliver the NOVA in 24 hours or we will kill him.
What’s a NOVA you ask? It’s a nuclear bomb capable of turning the city...

Shhhhhhhh

I’m writing at the public library - okay, at this very moment I’m actually posting on Facebook at the public library - and there’s a student and his tutor two tables over, discussing what sounds like a paper he’s written. They’re working hard, it’s clearly an interaction with meaning and value, and it’s good to see young people actively engaged in scholarship.

That said, these two people, who I have no reason to think ill of, and whose pursuit of scho...

No Boys Allowed: School visits as a woman writer:

shannonhale:

I’ve been doing school visits as part of my tour for PRINCESS ACADEMY: The Forgotten Sisters. All have been terrific—great kids, great librarians. But something happened at one I want to talk about. I’m not going to name the school or location because I don’t think it’s a problem with just one…

YA Bloggers, Booklrs, and Book Tubers of Color

YA Bloggers, Booklrs, and Book Tubers of Color:

catagator:

Last week, I put together a round-up of creators/writers of color who are talking about YA books on their blogs, tumblrs, or book tube channels. After it published, I got a ton more recommendations, so I created a new, updated list.

In the continuing quest to grow my own reading to include…
