Charity Auction - Day 3

One thousand dollars has been raised so far from the auction. A big thank you to everybody who has participated. 100% of the donations will go to The Mayors Fund to Advance NYC, which will donate 100% of the proceeds to aid the region in the recovery from Hurricane Sandy.

Charity Auction - Day 2

Thanks to everybody who has visited, bid, and/or spread the word about The Pulse charity auction for Hurricane Sandy relief. And thank you to all the artists who have generously donated items to make this auction possible.
There are now 4 artist bundles that are being bid on and I will be updating the site everyday this week with new items. So please come back often and help to get the word out.

The Pulse: Charity Auction - updated 11/11

Just over one week ago, Sandy battered New York City (my home town) and the rest of the mid-Atlantic region. It caused devastation unlike anything this area has ever seen before. It is estimated that losses from the storm will be in the neighborhood of $50 Billion. Over 8 million people lost power, some of which has not been restored. There were lives lost, homes destroyed, and property damaged. Every person living in the area that was struck has their own story to tell. And for many, the problems persist.

In times like these, many people, including myself, feel a sense of helplessness and often develop an urgent need to help. In times like these, every little bit does matter and can make a difference.


In that spirit, I am auctioning off art bundles - which will each go to the single highest bidder.

Simply contact me via email at shap97@gmail.com with your bid and I will update the bidding total on this post as bids come in as quickly as I can. The bidding will start at $25.00 for each bundle but I am hoping to raise substantially more money. Bids will be counted in the order in which they are received. Bidding ends on 11:59pm EST Sunday November 11th. The winning bidder can either make their donation directly to the charity via credit card or through me via check or Paypal. You are more than welcome to leave a comment to this post but bids will only be accepted via email.

The Pulse: Charity Auction - updated 11/8 #1

Just over one week ago, Sandy battered New York City (my home town) and the rest of the mid-Atlantic region. It caused devastation unlike anything this area has ever seen before. It is estimated that losses from the storm will be in the neighborhood of $50 Billion. Over 8 million people lost power, some of which has not been restored. There were lives lost, homes destroyed, and property damaged. Every person living in the area that was struck has their own story to tell. And for many, the problems persist.

In times like these, many people, including myself, feel a sense of helplessness and often develop an urgent need to help. In times like these, every little bit does matter and can make a difference.


In that spirit, I am auctioning off art bundles - which will each go to the single highest bidder.

Simply contact me via email at shap97@gmail.com with your bid and I will update the bidding total on this post as bids come in as quickly as I can. The bidding will start at $25.00 for each bundle but I am hoping to raise substantially more money. Bids will be counted in the order in which they are received. 5x5: Chapter 1

I may be the author of The Pulse of Mixed Media but the true, creative force behind my book is the group of artists who generously shared their secrets and passions and, of course, their art. It was important to me that this book be representative of our entire artistic community, but the total number of contributors I could include was limited by the number of pages in the book. Not wanting to be contained by page numbers, I decided that the Internet was the perfect vehicle to extend the book and be able to include more of the community. With this in mind, the 5x5 Pulse Project was born.

The Pulse of Mixed Media presented the results of a survey in which contributing artists were asked questions that they had to answer with words or provided with prompts that they had to respond to by creating art. These ideas were combined in the 5x5 Pulse Project. I put out an open call for artists to submit artwork created in response to one or more of the following questions that were part of the original book:
1. If your artwork could talk, what would it say?
2. Who has had the most impact on your creative life?
3. What is one thing you have never shared with the creative community?
Submitting artists could chose 1, 2, or all 3 of the questions and respond to each by creating artwork in any medium in the form of a 5" x 5" square. They were asked to include words as a part of their artwork as well. There was a tremendous response to this call and I will be posting each submission every Sunday throughout the months of November and December. 

The 5x5 project is also being featured in a ten-page spread in the November/December 2012 issue of Somerset Studio, now available in stores and online here.
