The Unforeseen Intrigue of “The Price of Nonna’s Inheritance”: An Italian Family Comedy
“The Price of Nonna’s Inheritance” is an Italian movie written and directed by Giovanni Bognetti starring Christian De Sica, Angela Finocchiaro, Dharma Mangia Woods and Claudio Colica.
“The Price of Nonna’s Inheritance” is not a film that taps into impressive cinematography or ground-breaking innovation. It thrives on the strength of a simple yet captivating idea – a clever comedy that resonates with the audience through intelligent dialogues and an unusual twist on traditional family dramas. An Italian movie carved meticulously by Giovanni Bognetti, it features an ensemble cast of performers who bring life to the characters with innate charm and wit.
At its core, “The Price of Nonna’s Inheritance” is reminiscent of the humorous blend of traditional values and macabre elements, similar to the 1944 classic “Arsenic and Old Lace”. Yet, it strikes its own distinctive notes.
The premise of the film is quite intriguing. An elderly matriarch’s boyfriend, Nuncio, is a suave man who has twice previously married affluent elderly women, raising suspicions within her family. Consequently, the family contemplates a sinister plan – to murder Nuncio prior to their wedding on a Spanish island.
“The Price of Nonna’s Inheritance” initially plays on irony, slowly moving towards mystery, keeping the audience entertained throughout. The characters are engaging, and the actors, including Christian De Sica and Angela Finocchiaro, have breathed life into them with a playful spirit.
It does not bank on its visual strength or a high-thrilling narrative style but rather adopts a theatrical structure based on intriguing dialogues and character interactions. The film’s director and screenwriter, Giovanni Bognetti, successfully amplifies the performances, leveraging the environment and the idea itself, thereby proving that family comedies do not always have to be tedious.
The team of actors forms the backbone of this film. In the realm of comedy, a well-crafted script is crucial, as is a cast that can infuse life into the characters, inspire laughter naturally, and captivate the audience. “The Price of Nonna’s Inheritance” is a balanced ensemble comedy where no character outshines the other. Each actor performs admirably in their roles, with Angela Finocchiaro deserving a special mention for her consistent ability to evoke laughter with her natural comic timing.
In conclusion, “The Price of Nonna’s Inheritance” weaves together dialogues, situations, and characters in a theatrical structure, creating a comedy that stands out precisely because it takes us beyond the routine family comedies. Although the film does not boast originality, it offers an entertaining experience that is well worth the time. So, sit back, relax, and let “The Price of Nonna’s Inheritance” entertain you with its comedic charm and peculiar family antics.

Capturing Time, Light and Space: An Artistic Exploration by Alisan Fine Arts, New York
Alisan Fine Arts, New York, proudly presents “Light, Space and Time,” an exhibition showcasing the creative genius of three California-based Asian American artists – Julie W Chang, Summer Mei Ling Lee, and Zhang Jian-Jun. Reflecting influences from the Californian coast and the historic Light and Space movement, each artist interprets light and space from a unique perspective, adding a dimension of time in their work, deeply rooted in historical and cultural contexts.

“Light, Space and Time,” running from May 2 through June 22, 2024, celebrates the unique light of the California coast that has inspired generations of artists and its role in shaping the atmospheric works affiliated with the Light and Space movement. This exhibition integrates the element of time, weaving and layering historical and contemporary cultural symbols, personal histories, and natural world considerations. The result is a body of work that contemplates how personal and historical narratives influence our surroundings and perceptions.
Julie W Chang uses painting as a tool to analyze the construction and deconstruction of identities. Her work employs ancient and contemporary cultural symbols to uncover hidden histories and depict the cultural hybridity inherent in today’s global society. Chang’s compositions on exhibit encapsulate human history and contemporary realities, mirroring the rich tapestry of global cultural exchanges.
Summer Mei Ling Lee’s paintings explore themes of presence and absence, impermanence of cultural heritage, and humankind’s unknowable relationship with nature. Presenting family photos printed on layers of gauze, Lee’s work offers shifting perspectives, symbolizing the fluidity of memory and human history affected by time and place. Her use of gold leaf in “Annunciation 1 and Annunciation 3” provides a luminous, sacred platform for her ancestors, descendants, and avian companions to emerge or withdraw.
Zhang Jian-Jun, an artist based in Venice, Los Angeles, works on paintings and sculptures that delve into the interaction between humans and nature, traces left by humanity over time, and the relationship between traditional and modern lifestyles. His works on exhibit are inspired by natural phenomena, from the sun’s light to raindrops to the cosmos, contemplating the immense passage of time. The sculptures contrast historical artifacts with contemporary materials, reflecting on the nature of global connectivity and cultural exchange.
This group exhibition coincides with Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, May 2024, recognizing the immense contributions and influence of Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans to the United States’ history, culture, and achievements.

Since 1981, Alisan Fine Arts has been opening doors for Chinese diaspora artists worldwide, focusing on Hong Kong’s unique blend of Eastern and Western influences. “Furiosa”: Another Thrilling Chapter in the Revamped Mad Max Saga
The prequel to the 2015 film, “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” is a film directed by George Miller starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth. It’s another mesmerizing chapter of the Mad Max saga that has continued to captivate audiences since its debut in 1979.
The original Mad Max, apart from skyrocketing Mel Gibson to fame, revolutionized American B-series cinema by creating a futuristic yet low-budget movie – a germination of ideas that other productions were quick to take advantage of.
Then came 2015 when George Miller decided to resurrect this title, providing a completely fresh experience while still abiding by the essence of the 70s movie. Now, we have this second installment, maintaining the original spirit but splashes even more action onto the screen – just what the audience craves.
The 2015 movie starred Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, while “Furiosa” showcases the talent of Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, and Tom Burke, a cast that guarantees top-notch performances and quality.

Described in one word: spectacular. “Furiosa” stands out for its exceptional action scenes, car chases, and extraordinary parallel montages, laced with humor and a well-thought-out script. The story grips the audience, keeping them hooked even in sequences leading up to the main event: the awe-inspiring car chases in the middle of the desert.
“Furiosa” doesn’t veer away from the visual aesthetics of its predecessor. As expected, we are in a post-apocalyptic desert world where water is scarce, and gasoline is invaluable. The entire action revolves around this fuel, a kidnapped girl, and the confrontation between two diabolical villains. Sequels often fall flat, but “Furiosa” manages to entertain, amuse, and keep you glued to your seat throughout its 140-minute runtime, packed with unceasing thrill.
Our OpinionA film pulsating with adrenaline in every scene. With its spectacular direction and editing, “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” more than meets the demands of its script filled with irony, adrenaline, and ample humor.

Masterpiece Acquisition: Seattle Art Museum Welcomes Elizabeth Malaska’s ‘The Doorway'”
In a significant move for the art world, the Seattle Art Museum has recently acquired Elizabeth Malaska’s painting, ‘The Doorway’ (2023). This remarkable artwork is currently featured in Malaska’s solo exhibition, ‘All Be Your Mirror’, which opened to the public on November 17, 2023, and is slated to run until June 16, 2024.
Elizabeth Malaska, known for her visual explorations, utilizes her art to highlight the correlation between our belongings, surroundings, and our consciousness. ‘The Doorway’ encapsulates these ideas, portraying light filtering into a room, casting ethereal shadows of her central figure. The scene also includes an obscured mirror, a wicker chair, a child’s crib, a tabby cat, and a collection of art supplies scattered on the floor. The unique amalgamation of textures and patterns in her art pieces – from intricate wood grains and textiles to the smeared, gestural brush strokes – further underscores Malaska’s knack for creating environments from disparate, individually crafted fragments assembled over time.
Malaska’s large-scale tableaux offer a commentary on Western art’s legacies and narratives, particularly focusing on the power dynamics that frequently relegate women to passive, objectified roles. Pulling influence from traditional painting, mythology, nature, literature, and modern advertising, she weaves a thread of connection between humanity, spirituality, society, and the natural realm.
Elizabeth Malaska, born in 1978 in Portland, OR, is a BFA graduate from California College of the Arts and holds an MFA in Visual Studies from Pacific Northwest College of Art. She is widely recognized for her achievements, including being a 2021 Guggenheim Fellow, a recipient of a Painter’s and Sculptor’s Grant from the Joan Mitchell Foundation, and the Hallie Ford Fellowship from The Ford Family Foundation. In 2022, she was honored with the Betty Bowen award, culminating in an exhibit of her work at the Seattle Art Museum. Malaska’s work forms part of permanent collections at the Portland Art Museum, the Schneider Museum of Art, and the Hallie Ford Museum and has been featured in prestigious publications including Ms. Magazine, Art in America, Artforum, Artillery Magazine, and ArtMaze. The artist continues to live and create in Portland, OR.
