Do I want to be a hero to my son? No. I would like to be a very real human being. That’s hard enough.

Robert Downey Jr

But I think Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang really got that thing where, if a movie reads really funny and then has some dramatic or violent or sinister stuff in it, you can’t forget that primarily it has to be even funnier than you read it or that other stuff doesn’t work.

More famous birthdays today, April 4: Austin Mahone, pop singer born in San Antonio in 1996; Jamie Lynn Spears, actress; and Todrick Hall, singer born in Arlington in 1985.

Bau-Xi Gallery. Construct is a series of interventions on physical photographic prints by Chris Shepherd

Bau-Xi Gallery. Construct is a series of interventions on physical photographic prints. Through shredding, cutting, tearing, folding, crumpling and other processes photographic prints are rearranged and reconfigured into sculptural forms. These new objects are then re-photographed and the journey–from taking to making and back to taking–allows the viewer to re-evaluate the conventional language of photography. Memory, nostalgia, documentation and other established tropes of the medium become secondary to the form and object, opening a dialogue about what photograph is and means.

Vancouver exhibitions. Sylvia Tait at Bau-Xi Gallery

Vancouver exhibitions. West Coast Suite is a group of abstract canvases and several multi-media panels painted by Sylvia Tait over the past two years. The series demonstrates a sharp focus on metaphysics and construction of the Subject – that is, the invention of symbols, colour and surface sensuality derived from long periods of reflection by the artist on past experience and emotions. When realizing the Subject in paint, Tait employs the abstract language synonymous with her later career: a language characterized by large voids, tracks, concentricities, and strands of partitioned colour.

A new interest in the dissecting the Subject into parts marks West Coast Suite. When describing the expressive structure of the body of work, Tait explains, “fragmenting, breaking up larger colour blocks and blowing them away is a metaphor as I see it.”

Sunday Poetry with Gypsy Woman, Jenean C. Gilstrap. Today: Freedom

freedom

.

see beneath the surface of things

things bound in gossamer wings

beneath the surface of my heart

where your love starts

.

things not yet floated to the top

how will they know when to stop

broken free broken loose

your love did me seduce

.

things held back things held under

throwing all my fears asunder

all those things set free

letting me be me

.

things

suppressed

repressed

‘til

there

I don’t think more concentration is required for Robert De Niro to do what he does as for Jim Carrey to do what he does.

I keep telling people I’ll make movies until I’m fifty and then I’ll go and do something else. I’m going to be a professional gentleman of leisure.

What is a motivating factor for Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Gerard Piqué?

Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta or Gerard Piqué? FC Barcelona, also known as Barcelona and Barça, is a professional football club, based in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain.

FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona

Founded in 1899 by a group of Swiss, English and Catalan footballers led by Joan Gamper, it has known great moments and great players. Currently, Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Gerard Piqué are some of its stars. What do you think about them? What is a motivating factor for them? Today, our quotes of the day are by Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Gerard Piqué. Listen to them!

“Money is not a motivating factor. Money doesn’t thrill me or make me play better because there are benefits to being wealthy. I’m just happy with a ball at my feet. My motivation comes from playing the game I love. If I wasn’t paid to be a professional footballer I would willingly play for nothing.” Lionel Messi.

“Small players learn to be intuitive, to anticipate, to protect the ball. A guy who weighs 90 kilos doesn’t move like one who weighs 60. In the playground I always played against much bigger kids and I always wanted the ball. Without it, I feel lost.” Andres Iniesta.

“I’m not sorry for anything, I would do this (commenting on Real Madrid) one and a thousand times because I am like this. I want Madrid to lose, always, and this is the rivalry that always exists in Spain. I’m not going to ask for forgiveness.” Gerard Piqué.

Enjoy your day, Yareah friends. Art is everywhere and up to you!
