This crystal blog post and all about my top 10 must-have crystals.

Whether you’re a beginner or you’re intermediate or advanced, just check in and see if you have these in your collection. Maybe you are missing one or two?

These might not necessarily be the easiest crystals to get because I don’t always feel like the easiest crystals to get are going to be the most effective for what we’re trying to achieve in our must-have crystal collection. Maybe it’s time to evolve your collection or upgrade your collection a little bit. Most of them are relatively easy to find, but a slight departure from the usual beginners list.

New Crystal Fakes To Keep An Eye Out For

Yep, we’ve got more crystal fakes to talk about today. Looks like this problem is becoming more and more prevalent.

Get Educated about Crystal Fakes

One of my greatest joys is investigating and researching possible fake minerals and then educating our Crystal Family on what’s popping up out there, keeping us educated so we can avoid the confusion that comes along with misrepresentations and crystal fakes. This way we can all make informed decisions when adding specimens to our sacred collections. And the three I'm going to discuss today aren't what I would classify as a misrepresentation; these are straight up Crystal FAKES.

If you feel passionate about this too, please share this post in any way you prefer. (***There are some handy “SHARE” buttons you can use at the bottom of this post***).

And if you haven’t already done so, you can [thrive_2step id='21832']download my free eBook on this subject[/thrive_2step], so you can grab my entire “Fakes” blog series in 1 convenient place and have a reference guide all your own. (Oh yes, this eBook has topped 100 pages now and includes all the info from this blog too). :)

[thrive_2step id='21832'][/thrive_2step]

Let's dig into it!

Fake Moldavite

Moldavite has become quite the popular metaphysical stone. I've written before about its energy here.

Why would anyone want to create a synthetic version of this? Well, finding and mining for moldavite is getting harder.

Several years ago the Czech government changed the rules restricting miners abilities to dig no deeper than one meter deep unless they've paid for a very expensive permit. In addition, it’s becoming increasingly harder to find the green rock since there's a very limited supply of it and it's becoming more and more scarce. It's an expensive stone for this reason. So you can see the motivation for wanting to fake it.

Genuine Characteristics

Moldavite is most likely formed by an ancient meteorite's violent impact with our planet. Because of the quick cooling that immediately followed, moldavite is characterized by lots of very small internal bubbles and random flow lines.

Another thing to look for in the real stuff can be found with a jeweler's loupe. You're looking for teeny-tiny worm-like wire filaments that won't exist in the melted glass fakes.

[caption id="attachment_22180" align="aligncenter" width="746"] By Onohej zlatove [CC BY-SA 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/...)], from Wikimedia Commons[/caption]

Fake Characteristics

Fake Moldavite, on the other hand, usually won't exhibit much texture; they'll be relatively perfect looking with no bubbles. Because much of the fake stuff is made of melted green glass (green bottle glass, melted down and then etched it with acid to make it look like the real deal) they'll have a wet-shiny look. In addition that bottle glass stuff will have a blue cast to it, whereas the real moldavite green has more of an olive tone.

It will be more uniform and smooth. If you're looking at moldavite in bulk, you may also notice there are many pieces exhibiting the same shape and not randomly shaped at all.

To kind of hide or disguise the fact that they look different from real moldavite often times they'll already be faceted or set into jewelry.

Also, large pieces of moldavite are extremely rare so, be aware.

As always, the price is a good indicator. If you find moldavite at a too-good-to-be-true price, start looking for signs of it being a fake.

Unfortunately, many of the moldavite fakes come from China, India, Japan or Thailand so if you're buying online from those locales, be sure you're buying from a reputable trusted seller.

Gold Lodestone

This was a new one I was alerted to recently. I had never heard of it but a couple of my students had asked about it during our last term so it must be relatively new on the rock scene.

They really look like pyrite, don't they?

I immediately suspected they had been painted. So I ordered some up and sure enough, they're just regular lodestone (magnetic magnetite) that have been painted up with gold paint.

I've seen them being touted to bring luck and prosperity. You can get those energies from all natural lodestone, so I see no need for the gold paint on them.

I did a quick search and unfortunately, with the three sellers I found; no one disclosed that they were painted lodestone. Then again, maybe the shop owners aren't even aware.

Yellow Tibetan Quartz | New Finds?

Now this one...

Captured your attention? Yep, mine too.

They're pretty, there's no doubt.

BUT, my experienced eye noticed that they looked a little too much like the synthetic green quartz I wrote about some time ago. I can tell from the characteristics that they used the same laboratory process as green quartz but have just started infusing a different chemical or dye to achieve these colors.

Yellow Tibetan Quartz/Spirit Quartz

The one in the above photo was listed as Yellow Tibetan Quartz/Spirit Quartz; most likely because it was purchased from Tibet, a popular spot where these sorts of synthetics often come from.

I could tell from the seller that they were not at all aware that this was a fake.

Let me tell you, I'm afraid to touch this spiny thing. Spirit quartz grows with tiny crystal facets on it. However, this thing has very fine crystal filament splinters growing on it that pierced me several times. It's quite dangerous actually. That is NOT how natural crystal grows.

[thrive_2step id='21832'][/thrive_2step]

New Find Yellow Phantom Quartz Crystal

This next one was listed as "New Find Yellow Phantom Quartz Crystal Cluster Specimen". I'm laughing... I can't even get pissed anymore because this stuff has just gotten so ridiculous.

The listing also called this one "yellow citrine quartz".

So which is it?

Citrine or Yellow Phantom?

I guess they thought the fancier woo-woo names they through in, the better.

The listing also included this "helpful" info: "Please take note that each crystal will be slightly different from the picture due to it being a natural stone." A natural stone you say? I don't know... call me picky but I strongly feel that it needs to be disclosed when a mineral specimen is synthetic.

Blue Phantom Quartz

OK, I have to admit, this is one is pretty eye-catching. The Blue Phantom Quartz was obtained from the same seller as the above "Yellow Phantom". The  seller shipped from China. I suspect these were grown in the same lab.

This one was also listed as a "Natural Quartz" and ironically the listing said this: "Blue Phantom in Quartz Crystal is, of course, a Throat Chakra crystal. It helps us speak our truth."

Really?

Ok, so you're probably wondering how I can tell these are synthetics.

Here's what to look for...

DEAD GIVEAWAY TELL-TALE SIGNS to look for:

Crystal tips and apexes that have an etched or stepped growth pattern; due to forced regrowth of a quartz cluster (or sometimes they're entirely synthetic)
Crystal apexes (tips) that are trigonal (3 facets) rather than the more common hexagonal (6 facet tip)
More color concentration at apexes (even look like phantoms so may be higher in price!)

Many of these specimens on eBay hail from China or Tibet (as did these examples)
Can look like spirit or fairy quartz w/ the same sort of teeny crusted crystals points that tend to cover the crystal shafts; due to the forced regrowth, but the crystal growth is MUCH smaller than a genuine spirit quartz

Always use your common sense and the best protection from this is to be well-informed yourself.

Amethyst Healing Properties, Correspondences + Meanings

Let's talk about Amethyst healing properties, correspondences, and meanings.

This is going to be a really comprehensive geological & a metaphysical conversation about probably every kind of amethyst you can think of, every kind you've heard of, including everything I know about amethyst.

Question of the Day:

Was Amethyst your first crystal? Yes or no?

Please go ahead and answer this in the comments at the bottom of this page.

Oh and I've put together something special for you today!  Click below to download my Amethyst Latte Recipe and let me know once you make this luscious gem of a concoction. :)

[thrive_2step id='22038'][/thrive_2step]

Amethyst

Amethyst is a really popular mineral because we all love the beautiful, striking purple color, right?

For many of us, it's usually our very first crystal or what attracts us to the crystal realm.

Amethyst is really just the purple variety of quartz. I'll explain what makes it different than clear quartz below.

Spiritually Enhancing

Amethyst is spiritually enhancing, that's another reason why so many of us love it and it's a favorite. It's also spiritually protective as well, so that's a property of amethyst that's very important.

If you need to be or want to be spiritually protected or physically protected for various reasons or you just want to go into a healing session or maybe a meditation and be spiritually protected while you're doing that, then bring amethyst along with you for the ride.

It's all about that protection and divine connection.

Chakras

Amethyst works closely with the third eye chakra and the crown chakra. It's all about calming energy, so it's great for bringing into the bedroom or a healing space.  Plus it's great for the release of addictions.  That's another important property or correspondence of amethyst.

It enhances the work of the third eye and works closely with the pituitary and pineal gland. Plus it helps you connect more deeply and more easily with your spiritual self, so connecting you more easily to your higher self. It enables a stronger connection to our spiritual side.

If you're feeling like you're lacking in that area, work with amethyst.

Bring it into your life, just wearing it or having it in your space or meditating with it or doing healing sessions with it or doing a crystal grid with it, because a lot of times people when they're new to crystals, and when I say, "Work with it," they're like, "What do you mean, work with it? What does that mean?" Those are just some examples.

Amethyst enhances and invites that spiritual energy in.

I like that it really invites in that energy of being more spiritual, but also while being protective at the same time because a lot of times we forget that side of things. It's got that added benefit of being very calming, so it's, again, a favorite to work with while meditating.

Additionally, if you need a boost of willpower while trying to break free of any sort of addiction, whether it's an addiction to social media or to soda, or drugs, or alcohol or anything else.

Or if you feel something is impacting you in a negative way or what we consider a bad habit, amethyst is a popular stone for working with for breaking those habits and, again, bringing those relaxing, calming energies to you while you're working on that.

Meditation

Now any amethyst helps you to focus more on your meditations and eliminate or get rid of that monkey mind while meditating. It's not going to eradicate it entirely, but it's going to assist. As a tool and a support. That's what I feel crystals are; an ally, a tool, a support.

All that stuff that happens during meditation, and it's supposed to happen, but the goal usually with meditation, is to empty your mind and just allow those thoughts, instead of grabbing hold of them or having them grab a hold of you and getting stuck in them and next thing you know, you're all about the thought instead of the meditation.

Instead, you allow those thoughts to just float away like a leaf on a river and allow your brain to accept the benefits of not thinking of all those things, or at least not thinking of them deeply.

Amethyst entrains with our electromagnetic field, or some of us call it our aura so that we become calmer.

We vibrate or become a vibrational match to its frequency so that we are in alignment with it.

That's the whole point in working with crystals, is to become a vibrational match ... to get into an alignment with their vibrational frequency.

Certainly, that happens with any of the crystals that we're working with, but if you're looking for the correspondences I just talked about and you want to become a vibrational match while working with the amethyst, then bring it into your electromagnetic field.

Some say it extends out infinitely, but it extends most strongly within a four-foot radius.  So if you want to use your arms & fully extend them out, then imagine your electromagnetic field extends out like that all around your body in all directions, you've got the strongest radius right there.

[thrive_2step id='22038'][/thrive_2step]

Amethyst Geology

Let's talk a little bit of geology and identification of different types of amethyst.

A lot of people ask me how to tell the amethyst fake from the genuine.

Yes, amethyst can be faked. I'm going to give you lots of basic geological information here to help you figure it out, but if you really want to dig in and you're interested in learning more about identifying your crystals, I can't give that all to you here. I highly recommend my class elective, Crystal Savvy. I really get into the identification of crystals in there, so you learn how to empower yourself to do that for yourself.

Where does most Amethyst come from?

Amethyst comes from many different locals around Mama Earth, which is what makes it really more of an affordable crystal and ones that are least likely to be fake because it's so widely available.

There's almost no reason to fake amethyst.  Yeah, some people are faking it, but I don't consider it a widespread issue.

The most popular locals for amethyst are different parts of the U.S., Mexico, Canada, Brazil, and Uruguay.

There are huge amounts of amethyst in Brazil and Uruguay in the basalt flow vugs or voids. There are these weird vugs ... maybe like a pocket of air was there and amethyst grew in it and in the fissures. Can you imagine that?

I remember there was a scene in the movie The Core, right in the dead middle center of that DVD ... I remember this because I used to teach my science class this and I used to fast-forward to that one section in the DVD ... They go down under the earth. It's imaginary. Nobody's done this, but they go into a deep, deep vug or a basalt flow void. It's just filled with amethyst crystals, a giant, huge void and they walk in, and it's so cool.

So there are huge deposits in South America, and also in Africa.  There's enough material there to keep amethyst's price affordable, and so it's less likely to fake it.

However, I have seen some deeply dyed ... I'm sorry, in my opinion, disgusting amethyst that you just rub your fingers on the back of it and the dye will come off in your hands. That dye dissipates very quickly.

I have yet to figure out exactly what kind of dye. I think I heard it was a food-grade dye or clothing dye that they use on some geodes, milky quartz geodes or something like that. It's on the back of the matrix and it just rubs off on everything and it fades really, really quickly.

Just like all quartz, amethyst has a Mohs hardness of seven. All quartz is a seven, so relatively hard. It's not the hardest like a diamond, but it will scratch things if you move it across a piece of glass for example.

Where does the purple color come from?

It comes from trace amounts of iron inclusions in quartz.

You might not think that because if you think of rusty iron, it's a rusty color, but the amethyst color comes from iron. There are just trace amounts of it. That's all that's necessary.

Then there's another component that's necessary; you've got the trace amounts of iron in the quartz and intense radiation, gamma rays from radiative sources like radioactive elements in the earth that are in the host rock.

The first step in amethyst getting its purple color, it's a series of steps that begins during the crystal growth, at the very beginning when it first starts to grow and it's gathering up that trace bit of iron. Then after the crystallization begins, the gamma rays begin irradiating the iron and viola, you get the purple color.

The most intense purple color is usually seen at the apex, at the point.

Then there's the really deep Uruguayan amethyst. It's like 50 shades of purple!  There's a wide range of purple colors.

Types of Amethyst

Next let's talk about the various types of amethyst.

Geodes

A geode's going to be a smaller hollow or vug, or a void, filled with the crystals. That's known as a geode. If it's flat, it really isn't a geode and let me get into why that is.  It was probably cut from a large geode. The large geodes are also known as cathedrals.  They are called cathedrals because they look like big steeples on a cathedral and they're often cut in half and cut open so that it displays the crystals inside.

Now, if the crystals inside are really small, really little, then that's called a Druze. A lot of people call it druzy. The proper geological term is Druze. The E at the end is silent, but some people ... a lot of people call it druzy now, so that's just become part of the common nomenclature, so we go with it, right?

The tall amethyst geodes, like I have in my sacred space, those are great for living spaces because they're large and they can emanate a lot of energy. Large geodes are wonderful for radiating good amounts of energy into a space and really making the space feel good.

But be prepared, they're pricey. The larger they are, the pricier they are. I mean, it's rarer to find them large and it's costly to ship those pieces too.

Vera Cruz Amethyst

Next, there's Vera Cruz amethyst. They're very, very light in color and they have excellent clarity.

Vera Cruz Amethyst is known for being really good third eye developers if you're looking to develop your third eye chakra.

They help induce theta brainwaves, which are a higher amplitude, lower frequency brainwave than alpha or beta.

Beta is what we're in all the time. It's the brainwave I'm in right now, you're probably in right now. If you're in a more relaxed state, you go into alpha; but theta is a higher amplitude than that but lower frequency.

When you're in a daydream state, that's often a theta brainwave state.

It's that state of mind you go into like when you're in the shower and you download those really good ideas or maybe if you're driving or walking, you get into a very positive mental state.

When you're in those places and you kind of zone out, or you're daydreaming and you get into this positive mental state and you get to download these really amazing ideas. That's theta brainwave state. If you want to be in that state more, Vera Cruz amethyst is your buddy.

It helps to awaken and kind of poke the pineal gland, kind of wake it up.

It used to be, in my experience, a go-to crystal for calming the mind and an excellent stone to work with when meditating, to get rid of that monkey mind; however, with the recent cosmic energy shifts, (I talked about this in another blog post recently), this doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

For me, Vera Cruz amethyst allows more flow of ideas, so more of theta brainwave state, not so much the calming of the mind; but if I'm looking for that flow of ideas, even during a meditation, Vera Cruz amethyst is my go-to for that.

Maybe it's because the amplitude in the crystal itself is a bit higher now due to these cosmic energy shifts. I don't know. I don't have the answer, but it's something that I've noted and I've noted with others.

Do you find this is true for you? Let me know in the comments. I would love to know. I have asked, though, a lot, and it seems like it is the case for the majority of us.

Uruguay Amethyst

Uruguayan amethyst has a characteristic grape jelly, deep, deep, deep, dark color. Sometimes it even looks black. It's the same energy as other amethysts, but more intense. For those asking if color intensity makes a difference, in this case, I would say yes, a slight difference.

I really love the energy of Uruguayan amethyst. It's got this really deep, dark royal purple color, very vibrant, very rich. I find that the energy is just so much more effective from these deeply colored Uruguayan amethysts when it comes to geodes.

Spirit Quartz

Spirit quartz is also known as cactus quartz. If you're looking for relief from OCD, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, this is a good one to work with.

Also for fear in general, because OCD is a symptom of a fear, right?

If you're looking to connect with your higher self while also getting rid of fears, clearing the pathway of anything that may come up on your journey to up-leveling yourself and connecting with your higher self, work with spirit quartz or cactus quartz.

It's also great for purification, again, protection, and evolving yourself spiritually, like any amethyst is.

Super Seven

Many of you asked about super seven. Well, super seven is not really a type of amethyst. People think it is because it has the general color of amethyst.

It's actually seven different minerals all conglomerated into one stone. The seven minerals are; amethyst, cacoxenite, clear quartz, goethite, rutile, smokey quartz, and lepidocrocite. It's not a type of amethyst. However it includes amethyst along with six other minerals, so I'm not going to get deep into super seven here.

Ametrine

Now, let's talk about ametrine. Ametrine has an iced tea hint to it, maybe a little bit of orange.  Ametrine is not an easy one to find.  It combines the energy of amethyst and citrine, natural citrine.

It's great for if you need assistance with making decisions.

Ametrine is also great for just clearing your mind. It's not only good during meditation, but to make a clear, sound decision, you want to clear your mind, right?

If you are looking to clear and cleanse your spirit, ametrine is great for that, but it's always my go-to when there's any kind of decision that needs to be made.

Chevron Amethyst

There's always a V-shaped pattern, a banded pattern of white in the chevron amethyst.

It alternates amethyst and milky quartz. That's what that V-shape is. It's made out of milky quartz.

What this is demonstrating is really intense color zoning, and color zoning is obvious in many different types of amethyst.

The color zoning, this V-shape, is expressing the crystal's hexagonal sacred geometry because it's a six-sided crystal. All quartz is. It's got that basic hexagonal sacred geometry, so the color zoning, the very intense color zoning of the purple and then the milky quartz, is expressing that inherent hexagon shape or the sacred geometry within the crystal.

They all have the same metaphysical properties as regular amethyst, but you know, I always say when I'm giving you these meanings and correspondences that you really need to experiment with them for yourself and see what they bring up for you.

For you, maybe chevron amethyst is very different from a regular amethyst geode. You really have to experiment and try it out for yourself.  Do the work yourself, okay?

I know a lot of us just want to get the answer from somewhere else and just go with that, but I can't stress enough you really want to do it for yourself and not rely on the books and the courses, even if it's my course.

You want to do the work for yourself and see how it works with you personally because we're all individual and we're all slightly different and we all bring a different flavor to the work that we're doing.

Brandberg Amethyst

Brandbergs; I show you a few examples in the video.  One's got some very light coloration in it, very, very light. Alternating zones of usually smokey quartz with amethyst.

Another one is more deeply colored. Often, there are phantoms, so you see the color zoning, the phantoms, the points inside. That's showing the punctuated growth rates, so the crystals slow down for a little bit. The coloration, whether it's a smokey quartz or the amethyst, kind of collected there in the area, and then it started growing again.

Phantoms are very common for Brandbergs. Enhydro bubbles of water are also very common for Brandbergs.

Brandbergs have some common characteristics. There are lots of crystal formation characteristics. For example, windows, phantoms, enhydro bubbles, time links, what we call S-faces. I talk all about that in the Crystal Formations class elective.

They're very glassy with very good clarity.

Brandberg crystals are known as master healers. They can help provide great relief from anxiety and powerful addictions.

If you're feeling energetically exhausted, Brandberg is your crystal for that. Also, a broken heart. Suffering from a broken heart, which I'm sure all of us have at one point or another, Brandberg crystals are great for that.

And it is Brandberg, not Brandenberg. I've seen it misspelled, even in some crystal books. Brandberg is named after the mountain where it comes from in Namibia.

Caring for Amethyst

The color of many deeply pigmented crystals like amethyst run the risk of fading by being exposed to direct sunlight or any bright display lights, especially if you're displaying your crystals under UV lights over a long period of time.

That can cause your amethyst to fade.

It seems like UV light is specifically the fading culprit for collectors. It can be natural UV light from the sun too, or manmade UV light, or halogen lights if you're using halogen bulbs. That's another culprit.

You want to keep your deeply pigmented crystals away from any kind of UV source, so keep it away from the window sill. Keep it away from the sun. The brighter the light, the faster it fades out our crystals, so sunlight and halogen are the worst.

Also, certain crystals, I noticed, fade more easily than others.

Brandbergs fade easily. I have one that I keep in a crystal curio cabinet, and I used to very easily see the phantom. Now I can barely see it, so I've noticed the Brandbergs fade more easily than others of my amethysts.

Long-term low-level heating like the sun changes amethyst to essentially a colorless quartz.  Whereas fast heat like from an oven, would turn it into citrine. Basically, you want to watch out for the sunlight and the UV lights and all of that.

Some collectors go to the point of keeping them in the dark, putting them in a little case, covering them up with some cloth, and keeping them out of the light all the time if it's a very special piece.

Some amethyst pales out, like I said, really, really quickly, and some very slowly. It depends on the oxidation state of the iron.

Remember I said there were trace amounts of iron? Little molecules of iron are known as ions. It depends on their number of electrons. It depends on the oxidation state of the iron ion that's specifically in that amethyst, but you can't tell what type of iron ion an amethyst has before you buy it, right? That's getting really heady, and I still haven't figured it out. I just think that Brandberg has a specific kind of ion that's more unstable that allows it to fade more easily.

Irradiated quartz is more prone to color fading.  It doesn't matter if the irradiation is natural or synthetic.  (For example, pink quartz.  Not rose quartz. I talked about that in my rose quartz blog post. That's another one that fades really, really quickly).

The purple color in Amethyst is caused by irradiation, so it's vulnerable. Also, smokey quartz caused by synthetic irradiation is another one that fades really, really, fast, but that's another topic.

So, be careful when leaving your crystals out in your garden or your window sill. I do know from some students that leave their amethyst out in the garden all the time, have not faded. Again, it depends on that iron ion.

I still don't know the method to figure out what kind of iron ion it has.  So I would say be on the safe side. Even the intense sunlight behind the window in your living room, if it can reach your crystals, might do some damage.

Don't keep them on window sills. The window glass does filter out some ultraviolet components, but I recommend you keep the crystals out of direct sunlight. That's true for all quartz varieties whose color is bright, so smokey quartz, citrine, pink quartz, not rose quartz.

Someone asked me if LED lights can harm our crystals. I'm not going to say, "No way, no how," but there's no science that backs it up.  Hence at the moment my answer is no. LED lights should have no effect on the molecules unless you've purchased special UV LED lights, so UV, ultraviolet, we want to keep that away from the amethyst.

Does Darker or lighter amethyst have an effect on the crystal's energy potency?

I don't feel color intensity usually has anything to do with the energy from amethyst, except for that Uruguayan amethyst. I do feel like it's a little more intense than regular amethyst.  Look at Vera Cruz amethyst or Brandbergs they can be very light, but they're quite powerful.

Therefore, usually, I don't think that the intensity of the color has anything to do with that.

So tell me ... was Amethyst your first crystal?  Please share your answer in the comments below. And don't forget to grab your free recipe and whip yourself up an Amethyst Latte!

Empath Everyday Survival Guide: Crystals + Secrets for Sensitive Souls

I'm so excited to bring this to you, because I recently did a poll on YouTube, asking what you guys wanted to hear about most and the topic crystals to help Empaths was high on the list.

We're going to cover Empath Everyday Survival Guide, (but if you're brand new to crystals you might be interested in reading this first).  This blog is all about crystals and secrets for sensitive souls. The goal is to avoid emotional hangovers, exhaustion, and sensory overload.

I'm right there with you guys.

When you're with a lot of people, do you feel like you have no shield up between you and them? Or do you classify yourself as a sensitive soul, a sensitive person? Do you find yourself often in situations where you get energetically exhausted?
Are you a lightworker, an energy worker, or a bodyworker of any kind, massage therapist? This kind of work with others can zap the energy right out of you if you don't know how to mitigate that. It's essential to protect yourself and protect your energy, with an energetic shield of protection. Crystals can help you to do that.
Do you ever feel unexplainably uncomfortable with an environment, a place, the situation, a person? Do you get those feelings often? That's your sign that you're picking up on something that's in disharmony with you. It might not feel that way to everyone else, but it's in disharmony with you.

What's an Empath?

I looked in several different places to find a good definition and found this one on Urban Dictionary. (I love that dictionary...for some things, it's quite funny)

An empath, defined there at Urban Dictionary, is a person who is capable of feeling the emotions of others, despite the fact that they themselves are not going through the same situation.

Highly Sensitive People

Empaths, or highly sensitive people, can feel everything, to an extreme, more so than others. That's okay if it doesn't bother you if it's not affecting you. But if it is, it can lead to feeling tired, feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, sensory overload, stressed out, or general anxiety.

So many people are feeling anxiety, and overall feeling too much and that can lead to adrenal burnout.

This scenario is kind of like a chicken or the egg quandary. Is anxiety leading to adrenal fatigue or is adrenal fatigue leading to anxiety? There's evidence going both ways. Adrenal burn out is a place you don't want to be, because that can generate anxiety and panic attacks, in and of itself.

Being an empath, with the ability to pick up on, and feel, experience, the energy of others can be seen as a gift, because that extra information, that extra data you're getting, can allow you to empathize with others or see things from another point of view.

On the other hand, it can be seen as a curse.

If you're suffering side-effects from being an empath, you might be viewing it as a curse because it's causing you to be bombarded with these extra feelings and emotions you might not even want to be dealing with, because it's not your stuff.

We're beings of energy and therefore we are affected by energy. We're made of these trillions of cells, transmitting and receiving energy, all the time.

Students in my certified crystal healer course, know I love Dr. Bruce Lipton. He's a developmental biologist. Lipton says that our cell membranes are liquid crystal semiconductors, made of silica.

That's what quartz is made out of, silicon dioxide. These liquid crystal semiconductors have these gates and channels that open and close. They selectively let some stuff in, and they selectively keep some stuff out.

Dr. Lipton says that our DNA scans our environment for relevant frequencies and then reshapes itself accordingly. We can see this happening under a microscope. If we think about this, you bring the right crystal into that environment, and you can adjust your cell's perception filters and transmute the energy of your environment.

The goal here, for the Empaths and the sensitive souls, is to create an environment that makes you feel good.

We want to steer clear of becoming overstimulated and overwhelmed.

You're like, "Yeah, great. How do I do that?"

Two things:

Be highly selective of the situations and environments you place yourself in. We don't have control over everything, but we have control over some of the things, so be highly selective of those things.
Have tools and supports at the ready. Like, crystals and stones, to help mitigate when you don't have control over those situations.

Certainly, we can work with crystals, as our friends, our allies, as tools and supports, to assist us in achieving this goal. I always say that you can do this without crystals, but crystals are a tool.

The physics definition of a tool is something that allows you to do the work with less effort, with less energy.  So, if you'd like the extra assistance, and if you already love crystals, why not use them as an ally in doing this? Work together with them.

From that perspective, we can work with crystals to transmute and neutralize. Some crystals can neutralize and transmute the energetic frequencies, so they don't carry specific frequencies that resonate with those bad feelings.

Empath Crystals

Here are a few of my favorite crystals for empaths.

1.   Black Tourmaline

Everybody loves black tourmaline. Everybody probably has a piece of black tourmaline. Black tourmaline is great for transmuting energy. It's wonderful for that.

2.  Smokey Quartz

Smokey quartz is great for not only transmuting the negative energy but detoxifying an environment. Detoxifying anything, even your body. Now, you want to work with true smokey quartz, not irradiated smokey quartz.  Some have a rich coffee brown like mine below which is from Namibia, Africa.

If it looks almost black, chances are it's irradiated. Yeah, it's giving off radiation.  Get out your Geiger counter, and stay away from it.

3.  Amethyst

I have one I always keep near my workspace. The one I have next to my desk is a grape jelly amethyst, from Uruguay. It's an absolute beauty.

Now, you don't have to have all of these crystals. These are just a few that I like most for this purpose. You can choose to work with one or two of them.

4.  Purple Jade

When you go to a gem show, and you're looking for purple jade, it's probably going to be rough, and in a bucket of water, because the water brings out the color.

When you cut and polish purple jade for lapidary purposes, it stays that color that it looks like when it's wet.

Purple Jade is beautiful. It is rare making it harder to find. This stone is about spiritual knowledge and associated, of course, with the crown chakra and the third eye chakra. But, interestingly enough, it's also associated with the earth star chakra, which is about six inches below our feet. So, it's very grounding for us and a great protective stone for Empaths.

It's not super expensive. The example I show in the video is pretty large and rough, and it's meant for people who are going to be doing lapidary jewelry, due to that it goes for about $100.

5.  Lodestone

Lodestone which is magnetic magnetite. Not all magnetite still retains its magnetic properties, but we like magnetic magnetite, which we call lodestone, because of that natural magnetic energy.

The magnetite can balance the polarities within our EMF field, within our auric field. Thereby, it's going to help strengthen, stabilize, and balance your energy field, while helping with any kind of psychic overload or taking on too much. Like, the energy picked up by bodyworkers, lightworkers, energy workers.

6.  Sugilite

You can call on the energy of Archangel Michael when working with Sugilite because this stone aligns itself well and allows you to work more closely with Archangel Michael to create an energetic shield of protection around you. Furthermore, sugilite helps balance your electromagnetic field, enhances the third eye and crown chakra as well, and is great with assisting to keep up that shield.

7.  Black Obsidian

I usually advise to only go to black obsidian if you feel like you need some powerful protection like you're calling on a bodyguard. Because it tends for the majority of people, to bring them down to a low, low state if they're not in need of the heavy duty kind of protection. Therefore it's a good idea to be discriminating when choosing whether or not you should work with black obsidian.

You don't want to ground too much and bring in, maybe, a low-grade depression, or things like that, if you're not prepared for the work that black obsidian does. I would only really use this if something major serious is going on and you need a really big boost of protection.

Next, I want to tell you about some specific ways you can work with these crystals so that you can use them effectively.

Reading about what crystal is good for this, what crystal is good for that, is great, but if you never actually put them to use, you're just circling the base of the mountain and never getting to the peak. Right?

It's a lateral move.

You're not taking a step forward; you're not getting closer to the peak. So it's no use to know the correspondences, but have no practical ways to work them into your everyday life.

Survival Guide for Empaths

I like to always give practical everyday uses for crystals, and so I'm going to share a highly effective, crystal shielding visualization technique and other tips below.

Meditate

One thing you can do is meditate with any of these crystals. Even just spending five minutes in meditation, just paying attention to deep breathing, just feeling your breath. There's nothing to do. Just sit there with a crystal, either in hand, or put it on your heart chakra, and sit in meditation.

Set the intention, at the beginning of your meditation, that this is going to help transmute the energy that's entering your electromagnetic field.

Protect Your Space

Another thing you can do is create a protective transmuting shield around your home, or your workspace, or wherever you might be, even in a car. You can place larger crystals in specific locations, like one near your front door, one near the back door.

Or you can go around to the four corners of your property. Most properties have four corners, some are oddly shaped and might have more, but one at each corner of the property, and create an outdoor grid for your home. I like black tourmaline for that. That's my favorite stone for doing that.

Empath Visualization Technique

The crystal shielding visualization technique, this is a crystal-induced energetic safeguard that's going to help shield you from anything that you sense as harmful, or anxiety-inducing, or just stress causing. You feel it as negative or toxic in some way. This technique is also helpful at work or if you're being cornered by a negative relative at a gathering.

We're getting ready to go into the holiday season, lots of socializing, lots of different people and obligations. Think of this visualization as a protection, or a shield, a literal energetic shield. It's highly effective helping you create boundaries where you get to neutralize any negative forces, or perceived negative forces.

How many of you are science fiction geeks, like me, and remember, "shields up" in Star Trek? "Shields up." Well, you can even say that when you're getting ready to do this crystal shielding visualization technique. It's just, "Shields up."

Next, you're going to close your eyes and connect to your breath. Feel the breath going in and out, as you allow your body's electromagnetic field to merge with the electromagnetic field of the crystal, or crystals, in your hand.  You're allowing them to entrain, or influence, your energy, as you build up your energetic shield.

Now, picture a strong, impenetrable large egg-shaped force field of energy enveloping your body. It's large, going as far out as your arms can reach, to your sides, in front of you, and several feet above your head, and below your feet, all around. This large energetic egg-shaped force field.

Finally, within the protection of this shield, feel the intention of being grounded, stable, and centered.  The crystals are going to help you achieve that.

Empath Mojo Kit

Also, keep a little pouch with a tumbled black tourmaline. I say tumbled, because when you keep a pouch of crystals together, they tend to rub together and kind of ruin the aesthetics, break off little chips, and things like that. When you go with tumbled stones, for little kits, tumbled stones tend to maintain their integrity longer, better.

So you can keep a little pouch with a tumbled black tourmaline, or smokey quartz, maybe two of each, one of each, it doesn't matter, in your pocket, or your backpack, or your purse. Someplace where it just becomes part of the stuff that goes out with you.

Alternatively, you may want to make several of these so you can have one at work, in a desk drawer, one at home, and one in your car.  Whenever you feel like you need the shields up, pull the stones out and place them in your hands.

Earthing

Another option is to get grounded by earthing. How do you do that? Take your shoes off and put your feet on the ground. If it's too cold to do that, take your gloves off, put your bare hands on a tree.  Likewise, hug a tree.  That's also grounding and earthing, connecting with the earth's energy.

In short, earthing helps to dissipate excess positive ions and physically ground you, electrically ground you to the planet.

Negativity Neutralizer Spray

This popular room spray used to FLY off the shelves. Although no longer available for purchase, I'm making my once-secret recipe available to you for FREE! Formulated and blended by me, this highly effective smudging alternative is infused with gem elixirs and stone chips plus essential oils to create a powerful blend; inducing negative ions, resulting in protective positive vibes in your environment.

3 Things You Want to Know Before You Start Working with Crystals

Are you new to working with crystals?

I'm going to share three things you want to know before you start working with crystals.

Because you want to avoid pitfalls, right? When you get started on this crystal path, you want to avoid wasting time and energy.  Why reinvent the wheel? I made a lot of mistakes when first starting out with crystals. I've worked through a lot of stuff and I can save you a lot of time and energy in that area, and save money which is a big one with these three things.

Now of course, there's so many more than three things, but I just wanted to distill it down to three for you.

Are you Ready to Start Working with Crystals?

Tip Number One

Cleansing your crystals:   I'm not talking about physically cleansing today, although I do love my science and I love talking about physically cleansing crystals (depending on their Mohs hardness, there's different ways we need to treat our crystals). Today, I'm talking about energetic cleansing.

After much trial and error I learned that there are many people that will go on and on about different methods of cleansing. And it's really up to you in the end.  You have to choose the method that resonates with you most.

I've tried out all sorts of techniques like; putting them in a bowl of brown rice, put the crystals and cover them with Himalayan sea salt, put them underground, put them in water for seven days, put them in salt water for seven days, put them in the sun, put them under the moon, sage smudge them. There are so many different ways.

But after lots of trial and error, I realized sometimes we need to be mindful...

extra mindful, of extreme temperature changes because that can be harmful to our crystals.
mindful of fading certain crystals in sunlight. Some of them are very UV sensitive, so we need to be mindful of that.
mindful of water with crystals that have a low Mohs hardness. I'm not going to get into explaining all these little things, I have classes and other blog posts on that, so I'm trying to stay on track today.

What I found is that the most practical way, while still being highly effective is acoustic vibrational frequency. That is just a fancy scientific term for sound. My goal is practical and most effective, so the highest impact for the least amount of work always wins with me and this technique meets all the criteria.

What kind of sound?

It can be any kind of sound, actually, as long as it's high amplitude.

You want the amplitude of energy to be higher than the crystal. And that's a fancy term for loud. We just need it to be loud. It doesn't need to be a certain frequency. It doesn't need to be a certain tone.

My favorite method?   It's a crystal singing bowl.  Just ring it gently.

I really like this method because it sends those sound waves out, and it penetrates in all directions. It really gets in there and it moves, and actually physically moves, the atoms around and gets them to lockstep back into place with their base resonant frequency, or what I call the dominant oscillatory rate of the crystal, back to where it naturally is, where it's natural vibration is.

Another favorite method of mine is a tuning fork.

People always ask me ...  "What frequency? What tone?" It doesn't matter. I know that they sell certain tuning forks specifically for cleansing your crystals, and they'll have it set at a certain frequency. Yes, there are certain frequencies that entrain certain types of vibrational frequencies.

But if you're just looking to cleanse your crystals, the frequency of the tuning fork (or whatever you're using) doesn't matter. Even if it's just your radio and a loud speaker, high amplitude is all that's required.  It's that simple.  Simple, practical, and highly effective.

Tip Number Two

Confusing Crystal Names:  How do you feel about all these confusing crystal names out there? Before you start working with crystals, this is one you want to pay attention to because money in your wallet is important.  I'm assuming, and you don't want to lose due to confusing crystal names. Now, how does that even work? So, there's a lot of confusion with the naming of crystals or the terminology, the nomenclature of our minerals. There are trademark names. There are marketing terms. There are what I call woo-woo synonyms.

What are woo-woo synonyms?

They're just names that are more appealing to us, the metaphysical market. I mean, admittedly, those woo names are really appealing, and they fetch more money. I've done experiments with this. I've taken you with me on my trips to the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show and other gem and mineral shows.

I've shown you, in real time, you've got the same mineral, you've got the proper geological term that everybody knows it by, it's not confusing, and then you've got someone calling the same thing by some woo-woo name, and it's marked up, exponentially marked up. They shell it out because it's got this fancy name on it for minerals that already have a proper geological name.

I could go on and on with all the different examples. I'll just give you a few here, like

Azeztulite:  Which happens to be quartz masses from certain particular areas.  I'll give them that. But if another geologist goes out and finds these quartz mass, usually, you know what they do? They grind them up, and they put them in landscape material, in different building materials, rock gardens, or they just sell them as a quartz mass. But if the right person gets a hold of it, they'll call it azeztulite. And you have to be careful whose calling it is azeztulite because that's a trademark term.
Healerite:   trademarked. What's healerite? It's basically a certain yellowish greenish tone of serpentine. It's serpentine. Talk to anybody else, they've got the same thing for sale, and it's going to be much cheaper because they're calling it serpentine. Infinite is a different shade of serpentine than healerite.  So again, you call it serpentine and just sell it in different shades, and it's going to be so much cheaper. If you know this, you're going to save yourself a ton of money.
Super seven: trademarked. Super seven is a conglomeration of a cacoxenite and different minerals mixed together. But, that certain mixture has been trademarked and called super seven, but it's been found in other places and not called super seven.
Zultanite:  is actually diaspore. That's the proper geological name. You are not going to get as much money for it if you call it diaspore.

If you know of others,  put them in the comments below so other people can see them and we can learn from this.

Then there's straight up scams

This next one is just a straight up scam. I'm sorry if you feel differently about it, but I feel strongly that I need to put this information out there.

Andara crystals:   Have you heard of that? They're said to be found only in northern California and South Africa, said to be high-vibrational, soul-enhancing crystals, and connected with the Lemurian or a Lemurian temple complex. Well, I did a little digging and research, and guys, I discovered they're not a crystal, not at all. They're just manmade glass, discarded glass. Maybe now some are making it on purpose for sale because now andara crystals fetch so much money.

The original andara crystal, was originally found in a California dump, because it's slag glass. If you know what that is, that means it's discarded glass from different manufacturing things. It's the byproduct of glass manufacturing, and that's it. Some people got together and thought it would be a great money-making scam. I'm going to straight up call it that, and giving it official certificates and things like that.

Do your own due diligence. Do your own research on that. Don't just buy what someone's telling you, hook, line, and sinker, because it sounds so wonderful. Do your due diligence.

Here's a special gift for you to download my newly updated free Crystal Fakes Reference ebook.

Crystal Fakes

If you've gotten it before, I've updated it with new stuff. In this Guide I'm talking about all types of crystal fakes, the more popular ones on the market and things to be watchful for. If you're a crystal collector, you have a crystal collection or you're out there buying crystals, you need to have this reference ebook.

Plus it's free, so there's no excuse not to have it. You need to have this so you can navigate the crystal shops, navigate your way on eBay, the gem shows.  To make sure you're getting the real thing and getting what you paid for.

We don't want to be scammed or duped by buying fakes, or buying something that we thought was one thing and it's actually another thing. Or it's the same thing and it's just called something fancy and they're asking us to pay three times as much for it. Instead, I want us to be informed.

I'm really, really passionate about that.

Tip Number Three

No woo-woo talk: Now, why would I tell somebody to go into the closet? That's so uncool. That is so politically incorrect. Here's the deal. When you go to a rock shop or gem show, if you're in a metaphysical shop that's different and you don't need to abide by this rule at all, but if you're at a rock shop or a gem show, zip the lip on the woo-woo talk.

Because I'm going to tell you, again, I've witnessed this firsthand for years, once you start working with crystals you'll see.  The sellers are keen on this, especially at gem shows...I've mentioned it to you when I've walked around the gem shows. If they hear you or just kind of look at you, they look you up and down and they see that you're a woo-woo type, like us.

I'm one.

We go there all dressed to the nines in all our stuff, and we look very airy-fairy, part of the woo-woo crowd, and we're talking to the woo-woo speak, or even, gasp, asking for, "Do you have a Lemurian Dow crystal, double-terminated Dow?" These are metaphysical terms.

This is what I'm talking about with woo-woo talk. The second they hear that, there's the ka-ching sign or the ka-ching sound going off in their brain.  The seller's, and they're going ka-ching, ka-ching, ka-ching, or they see an L on your forehead or an S for sucker. They're thinking, "I got a sucker on my hands."

And the Prices Go Up ...

Oh yes.  That crystal right there, they know what we're talking about because they've studied up, even though they don't believe (I'm not going to say this is for all sellers. There are sellers out there who are scrupulous who do believe in the metaphysical side of things. I even have a geology teacher who understands and believes in the metaphysical side of things).

I'm not saying that they all don't believe in it, but there are sellers out there, and a lot of them, who don't believe in it at all, but have made it their business to learn about this stuff because they understand it affects their bottom dollar.

On the economy side of things, it's all about supply and demand.   If they can supply the woo-woo community with what they're looking for, they can ratchet up the price on that crystal.

Whereas if they're selling to just a Joe Schmo rock hound over here, or Joe Sheila rock hound over here, they're not having that. They're not paying the jacked up price. They're going to pay the going price because they know the going price. And they assume, the sellers assume, that the woo-woo community, the metaphysical community, our crystal family, doesn't know the going price. For the most part, many of us in this community don't. And we think, "Okay, that's just the price you pay."

Now, of course,  if we're talking about a very rare crystal. If the mine has been closed. If there's not very many of them. The price is going to be extremely high. For example, meteorites, very highly priced. It's warranted. It makes sense. But when you're selling me a crystal mass, you don't even know where it's from, and you've just learned that if you call this azeztulie you can sell it for $300 insead of $3.  What do you think about that?

It's like Superman didn't walk around with his costume around the streets of the city, right? He kept the costume under wraps. For a reason. You're going to keep your Superman or Superwoman costume under wraps so that you can get what you want at a fair price.

Does that save you money? Is this valuable information? I hope it is for you, please let me know in the comments below.

Crystal Blessings,

Cutting Cords Using Crystals

First of all, you might be wondering what am I even talking about, cutting cords;  what does this mean?

Well sometimes we feel like something is tugging or pulling on our energy, our soul or holding us back or blocking us in some way;  and in the energetic healing world this is often known as "cords being hooked into our energy field"...being hooked into our actual electromagnetic field. Sort of like being caught up in cobwebs.

Some people who work with energy; energy workers, light workers or crystal healers can see or visualize these cords hooked into our aura.

Cords may be due to all kinds of things...it’s usually due to some kind of traumatic event.  Or perhaps we’ve allowed someone to overstep our boundaries; or maybe we have no boundaries.

Different people & beings may have all kinds of energetic cords hooked into us and those cords may be feeding off of our energy.

Good news is that there's work you can do with energetic work, therapy & setting firm boundaries.

Here in this video & blog I'm going to introduce some tips on how you can work with crystals and minerals to help release and cut those cords.

Energetic Tools for Cutting Cords

I have 2 crystals I think are best for this type of work:   black obsidian & sulfur.

Black Obsidian

Now some people (like me) are cautious with black obsidian because it’s very powerful.

I’m talking specifically about black obsidian; no other kind of obsidian, not rainbow, not mahogany and all the other different types; specifically, black obsidian.

Personally, I don’t wear black obsidian as jewelry on a daily basis or for long extended periods of time nor do I work with it on a daily basis b/c I'm cautious with it. Why? Well, for some black obsidian can be too powerful & can bring your emotions down if you work with it too long, especially if you're feeling emotionally vulnerable. It's been known to actually make some people feel depressed.

But sometimes you feel like you really need a powerful punch and for cutting cords, I do feel that black obsidian is ideal; the perfect energetic choice for this sort of work, as long as you make quick work of it.

GeoGEEK Factoid:  Black obsidian is technically not a mineral or crystal, because it’s actually a volcanic glass.  It’s created from a volcanic explosion and then cools so quickly that the molecules don’t have time to set up in that perfect geometric pattern that all crystals have.

Black Obsidian is quick + powerful.

It’s created from a violent volcanic event & then it forms very, very quickly.  So that’s much like the way that I prefer to work with obsidian, get to the point, real quick and powerful and...then get out.

A handy black obsidian tool & exercise that I talk about in much more detail in my Advanced Crystal Masters course is a black obsidian arrowhead technique

The arrowheads are fairly easy to get and quite inexpensive considering the handy work that it takes to create them.

Now, of course, most black obsidian arrowheads are not an authentic arrowhead created by ancient peoples. Rather they've been created relatively recently by human hands...like within the last ten years maybe.

Without getting involved in the details & particulars of the more advanced ritual of this, if you have a black obsidian arrowhead, it's safe to go ahead and gently "brush" it through your energetic field whenever you’re feeling like you have these energetic cords tugging on or hooking into your energy field.  Or, you can have someone else actually brush over you, much like you would do a sage smudge, and go everywhere, under your feet, around your back, your arms and just all around your body.

While you’re brushing with the obsidian arrowhead, you can say an affirmation like:

"I sever all cords and attachments that do not serve my highest good.”

Maintaining your Energetic Hygiene

I've learned the hard way how important our energetic hygiene is. Of course all of us slip here and there, I have for sure & I've learned that you've got to "put your own oxygen mask on first."

Just like we take a shower every day and brush our teeth, I feel it’s very important to maintain our energetic hygiene on a regular basis. So what do I mean by that?

I like to do some sort of energy work at least weekly.

I try to do meditations on a regular basis; shooting for a couple of times a week.

Then at least quarterly throughout the year, on the equinox or the solstices, I like to do a full chakra Crystal Healing. (To find a Hibiscus Moon Certified Crystal Healer in your area, check out our alumni map so you can have a crystal healing session for yourself.)

Doing this is like pushing the reset button; by bringing all of your chakras back into gorgeous alignment, allowing you to start fresh and breathe easy in rhythm with the seasons.

When you’re maintaining your energetic hygiene it’s a lot less likely for these energetic cords to get stuck into your energetic field. Its like probiotics for your body's immune system; preventative medicine!

But if you’ve been neglecting your energetic hygiene for a while it’s not uncommon to actually feel the symptoms of that...and if you leave those cords in place for a really long time they start to affect you on emotionally and spiritually & eventually on a physical level, condensing down to the 3D level.

So good energetic hygiene prevents energetic cords!

Layer the Energy

Before we talk about the next mineral, I also have an essential oil that I really like working with for this purpose, for cutting cords.

***Please note I am not married to any essential oil company, there are many different ones out there, many different brands, as long as they’re fair trade, sustainably harvested, organic, 100% pure essential oils, then I’m all for it.***

This blend I like for this specific purpose is made by Young Living and it’s called Release.

It's wonderful for the purpose of cutting cords &  a great energetic support for this type of work.

I like to take a few teeny  black obsidian chips and pop them into the bottle so that the Release oil is actually also marinating in the vibrational frequencies of black obsidian.  Layering the energies baby!

Be forewarned this oil blend ain't cheap, so I totally get it if you'd rather make the blend up yourself. The individual essential oils used to create this blend are:

Ylang Ylang
Lavender
Geranium
Sandalwood
Blue Tansy
a Carrier Oil, like jojoba, coconut, almond or olive oil; that's up to you, Jelly Bean!

Then you can do several things with the oil;

You can put a few drops in a bath along with some black obsidian, but make it a quick bath! I wouldn’t be soaking in it for like an hour.  I would get in and out, five minutes and I’m done.
While you’re visualizing the intention of cutting the cords, you can diffuse it or heat it in an oil burner.
You can also apply it directly right over your liver area, because your liver is your organ for releasing anything physically stuck in your body.  So that works emotionally & spiritually as well on an energetic level.

Sulfur

The other mineral I've chosen for cutting cords is sulfur.

I’m not going to go too deep into sulfur b/c I have another video all about it over here :)

Sulfur is great for relieving mental stress, helping with low energy and weak willpower....all symptoms of cord attachments, BTW.

Or you can take powdered sulfur &  add it to lotions or oils and apply that directly to your skin, to help clear up skin ailments such as itchy, red skin, Eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, scabies & any sort of fungal infection like ringworm.

These sorts of skin infections are cord attachments on your body, you know. Possibly energetic cords that have been left unchecked for some time & have become denser now manifesting as physical skin ailments. Literal parasites. No worries, though. Sulfur to the rescue! Sulfur is a natural antiseptic & antifungal. :)

Sulfur has an acrid smell, kind of like rotten eggs. So be aware of that.

It's another common mineral that shows up relatively quickly near volcanoes.

You can do the same energetic brushing ritual I mentioned above with the sulfur and just, kind of comb your aura, your energetic field by combing or brushing the sulfur around your body.

Cutting Cords Anti-Fungal Ointment

DISCLAIMER: I'm not a doctor and I'm not giving medical advice of any sort. Always check with a doctor first for any medical issues.

This is an ointment that is great for both cutting energetic cords & quite effective for alleviating skin ailments such as the ones discussed above. Ingredients you'll need:

1 cup coconut oil
1 black obsidian stone
2 Tbs of sulfur powder
7 drops of Release Essential Oil
Glass container (you don't want to add essential oils to plastic as certain oils can cause the plastic to start to break down)

[thrive_2step id='21781'][/thrive_2step]

Warm your coconut oil to melt it (if it's not already liquified). Then add your sulfur, black obsidian & essential oil & shake it up until well mixed. Allow it to cool before applying.

It has a pretty nice scent, but with a bit of that acrid sulfur after-smell. You have to try it out & see what you think. It also leaves a yellow cast to the skin so I wouldn't rub this stuffs all over, just in a few inconspicuous spots or the places that you need it. Also be sure to test it with a small quantity in a very small area to see how your skin reacts.

Download your FREE recipe pdf so you can easily save & refer to this list to shop for items, create some of your own or to share with others!

Rose Quartz Healing Properties, Correspondences and Meanings

Many notice the big, mondo-sized rose quartz rock by my front door to entrain the vibrational frequencies entering my home. Why do I keep that crystal there?

Rose quartz is your crystal of love and compassion. It's a crystal for all matters of the heart; both emotional as well as physical. Rose quartz invites us to connect with Divine Energy. This stone has a very gentle energy and is an ideal stress-reliever while it also invites in more kindness and compassion.

It's known to assist with all matter of fertility and the menstrual cycle. I even include in my very popular fertility combo.

This is also a stone for beauty often used in baths and facials. Brings about a glowy, more youthful skin tone. I pop a tumbled stone into my facial moisturizer and also use rose quartz facial discs for my facial. Alternately, you can find a rose quartz roller to stimulate blood flow to your complexion.

These are the polished rose quartz discs I like to include in my regular facials.

It can become your "BFF crystal" that you cultivate a really close bond with (like I have). I also have one of these buddy-pieces that I've bonded with ever-present by my bedside; using that particular piece for a lot of different things. For instance, any kind of love, and we know there are different kinds of love in the English language. We should probably have different vocabulary words for the different types of love:

friendship love
family love
romantic love
self-love
compassion-love

I could go on but you get the picture. All of these different types of love obviously are very, very important, so rose quartz is one that you may want to have in your collection, in my opinion.

Affirmations

I love the crystal affirmations provided in The Book of Stones. I use these affirmations for so many things; to start off my intention for a crystal meditation, to help balance a chakra or to include in a crystal grid. This one is the one given in that book for rose quartz:

"I open my heart to receive and express the energy of love."

Geology and Identification

As a type of quartz, rose quartz, just as other quartz varieties has a Mohs hardness of 7 and belongs to the trigonal crystal system. It's usually a light pink,  but can vary in color, intensity, and hue; sometimes a very deep pink colored and at other times, very pale so that it's barely pink. Sometimes they’re right in between. And to tell you the truth, geologists are totally confused as to what the exact cause of its rosy hue. The precise element has yet to be pinpointed but has been blamed on trace amounts of:

titanium
iron
manganese
dumortierite (this one seems to be the most likely culprit)
phosphate
or even aluminum

Who the heck knows!

This stone can be found in Madagascar, South Dakota, Namibia, India, and Brazil.

Although translucent, it's rarely ever transparent with a cloudy opaque look. You usually don’t see them growing naturally in points, that's a rarity. Rose quartz most often appears in masses, so no crystals or crystal faces.

Pink Quartz?

Sometimes you’ll find rare and unique (translate: very expensive) pieces that do grow in points and… wow if you have one of those; hold on to that baby because it’s worth quite a bit! They’re quite rare.  (BTW, serious geologists don't even consider these scarce rose quartz natural points to be "rose quartz". In fact, they officially call them "Pink Quartz"). One major difference that sets them apart is that their pink color is not caused by the same element so that technically makes them entirely different mineral. Another important distinction between the two is that pink quartz is light-sensitive (so don't leave it under UV lights or exposed to sunlight) - rose quartz is not. Hey, if you want to geek-out on that, check it out.

These star roses are usually visible when polished and they also are a deeper pink than rose quartz from other locales.

This is a great link to dive into more detailed geological info.

Chakra Association

This stone works very well with the heart chakra for emotional heart issues, spiritual heart issues as well as physical heart issues.

Rose Quartz Self Love Bath Recipe

This piggy-backs onto last week’s topic; Crystal Bath Therapy. Here's a checklist of items you can add/use for a super-relaxing self-love inducing bath experience (each item is optional, there are no hard fast rules but the more items you can add in, the more amplified the effect):

Pink Himalayan sea salt: 1 cup
Rosewood essential oil: 4 drops
Rose absolut essential oil: 2 drops
Several tumbled rose quartz stones (4-7 depending on size)
Pink rose petals (organic, dried or fresh)
Rose quartz candles (you can make your own as discussed here)
Rose Water (a few squirts or use as facial toner post-bath)

Are These Meanings Reliable?

This section refers to a new disclaimer I've needed to give recently.

The info on this page relies mostly on common crystal correspondences that have been relied on for hundreds of years (much going back to ancient times), that I have also researched and have found to be consistent for myself, my clients as well as for the thousands of students and graduates of my Certified Crystal Healer Course. Now, the known-crystal-properties ring true for about 80% of the population.

However, recently, something has changed.

For those that don’t resonate with rose quartz’ usual correspondences; instead of being indifferent to it, now these people are seeing more of an intense negative reaction. Something has shifted with the energy there. Both with us as humans reacting to the stone as well as with the crystal itself, especially being a silicate.  If you'd like to learn more about this possible issue, I wrote a blog post here about why this may be occurring.

I don’t personally find this to be true for myself, but for some, it’s even bringing up feelings of anger and anxiety! Not a widespread issue but something to definitely keep in mind. You’ll need to experiment with it to see how you react to rose quartz. Hopefully, you’re in the 80%.

Crystal Bath Therapy | Immediate Energetic-Hygiene Fix

Recently, I realized that my third chakra, my solar plexus, needed to be re-calibrated. (I discussed the circumstances surrounding that in my latest newsletter). It's underactive at the moment; very out of sorts for me actually and therefore, really disconcerting too. If you'd like to find out more about the science behind crystals + chakras, you'll want to start here with a classic blog post I have on that. So, I was getting ready to do a solar plexus crystal bath and thought to myself,

"This is a great topic to share about and explain why a crystal bath is a highly effective and immediate energetic hygiene-fix!"

A water soak with your chosen crystals is an excellent way to work with them. At the same time, you're also creating your own relaxing spa experience.

The Science

Now, let me explain why I feel putting stones in the tub (with water) can be so powerful.

It's an easy and efficient way to infuse your auric field with their vibrational frequencies; to help balance chakras, influence certain energies or to help manifest certain things.

See, all matter emits electromagnetic frequencies, as do crystals, as do people. Those frequencies travel, just as electricity does (in the form of electrons). so we have something that's a good electrical conductor; like me; a person.

CONDUCTIVITY GEEK ALERT: all living things are excellent electrical conductors (something that allows those electrons to flow with less resistance), hence why you don't want to be out in the middle of a lightning storm! Metals are also good electrical conductors. Some things are better conductors than others. Gold, copper, silver are really good metals for this. And then we have water; water is also an excellent electrical conductor. The opposite would be a poor energy conductor (aka insulators); such as glass, plastic, rubber, air, and wood (not a living thing any longer).

So, we've got water + me; two effective energy conductors. Plus, water is highly programmable (will get to that in a bit).

Crystals and stones emit their own individual resonant frequencies. Now with water being a good energy conductor, those frequencies are going to travel with less resistance and then come in contact with me, being another good energy conductor.  The less resistance, the easier it is for the energy to flow, therefore, that results in more efficient amplification of the vibrational frequencies.

So, with less resistance, the easier it is for my electromagnetic field be influenced by the frequencies of the stones I have in the water. In some ways, it's more effective for us than a simple crystal meditation sitting on the cushion because you're surrounded by water; an added powerful conductor.

Programmability of Water

Just like Mother Earth, we're made up of about 70% water. Dr. Masaru Emoto’s research with water molecules has shown us that water is highly programmable. Through his experiments, he was able to show us that our thoughts and intentions have an effect on the molecular structure of water. When our intentions are positively directed towards the water, the water molecules are physically altered in a beneficial way.

(I had the privilege of meeting Dr. Emoto at a book signing shortly before his passing.)

Dr. Emoto noted these positive changes can be achieved through prayer, music or even by attaching labels to a container of water. The Institute of Hearth Math has confirmed these findings with waters programmed with prayers and healing intent from holy places around in various parts of the world.

This research has shown me that water is an easily influenced energy transformer and an ideal delivery system.

This got me thinking… is the reason we’re so beneficially affected by good intentions, compassion, kindness, and meditation due to the fact that we’re mostly made up of water; a highly programmable material?

So, to sum up...

Being that water and living things are such excellent conductors of energy and both so easily programmable, it seems very logical to me that combining the three (crystals + water + living being) will result in the vibrational frequencies of crystals and stones conducting energy with less resistance, thereby more easily influencing us!

Crystal Bath | Step by Step

The only three necessary items are:

You
Tub of Water
Crystal(s) of your choosing (following safety guideline below)

Each of the following steps is optional:

Fill the tub and add in some salts (Epsom and/or Himalayan Sea Salt). If you want more info on why it's beneficial to add salts to your bath, I highly recommend you check out this book. Truly eye-opening! Be informed & get protected against EMF.
Choose a music selection specifically written to entrain your energy to help balance the chakra or achieve your personal goal.  Some music is expertly written to influence specific electromagnetic frequencies, connect with specific light codes, and can even be based on sacred geometry and numeric patterns. For my solar plexus, my go-to track is this one (I just keep it on repeat since it's only 6 min. long).
Place your chosen stones in the water, but first... there are a few things to consider when choosing your stones. First, I  choose according to non-toxicity of the stone and next, because you don't want your stone getting slowly dissolved or ruined by the water, you want to be sure it has a minimum Mohs Hardness no less than 6. Here's a great resource for looking up the Mohs Hardness and other info about various crystals and minerals.  (If you're really into learning more about the Mohs Hardness scale and some cool mineral ID tips, you might want to check out my Crystal Savvy Class Elective.) So, for my solar plexus chakra, I chose yellow calcite. It "ticks all the boxes".
Next, you may choose to add 100% pure therapeutic grade essential oils (no synthetics). They need to be safe for topical use as well as gentle on the skin. For solar plexus work, I usually choose lemon and/or peppermint. But only 1 or 2 drops because these can be irritating to the skin. Please do your own due diligence here; research, test and use caution!
I also love candles with a bath like this and I usually make my own chakra candles or you could go with something like this and place them around the tub. In this case, I'd be using a yellow candle (in alignment with the solar plexus chakra) that may also have essential oils and crystal chips embedded within. The candles allow me to layer in a few more similar vibrational frequencies to add to the total effect and further amp up the effectiveness of my chakra balancing.

More Creative Options

You may even choose to adjust the frequency of your water and program it in a specific way using a tuner like this free one (528Hz is known as the Love Frequency):

https://youtu.be/5qBiGIAShpo

You can be highly creative in the types of crystal baths you can do.

I've seen some highly specialized crystal bath salts. For instance, You can add those little gemstone chips they sell in tiny bottles into a small muslin bag. Then mix in half Epsom salts, half sea salt or Himalayan salt. Next, toss in some herbs that align with the frequency of the chakra you're looking to balance or with the intention you'd like to manifest.

I'd love to hear your ideas or if you try your own Crystal Therapy Bath; how did it go? Did you like the results? Please share in the comments below.

Recent Mercury Retro and Eclipse Aftershocks | Crystals that Can Help

Cosmic Energies at Play Once Again

We're going to talk about recent Mercury retrograde and eclipse aftershocks and crystals that can help with some emotional healing. I thought this was a good topic because I've been going through some aftershock activity myself. How about you?

So, have you been through the wringer recently? Feeling like you can maybe use an ally on your side for some mood stabilizing to keep you even kilter?

Last eclipse season ended on Aug. 11. Yet it seems to be leaving these rippling shock waves in its wake. I and many other people are in cleanup mode right now. Relationships changing, ending with people, not just people, entities, companies, lots of shakeup going on. Maybe things you totally didn't expect or things that you had an inkling about.

Then Mercury went direct on August 18th, but we're still in the post-retro shadow until September 2nd.

I used to not even pay attention to the retro shadow. Big mistake. Lesson learned!

Wrong! This is the first time that I really got a kick in the pants to say, "Uh-uh, no. You're not in the clear just because you're in the shadow."

Also recently, I talked about different cosmic events that are happening that could be contributing to this energetic shift.

I know in listening to others; I'm not alone in this. Many of us are in transition right now with a lot of things. I've spoken, like I said, recently about those cosmic energies and how that's changing us and everything around us, our solar system, Mama Earth and even our crystals!

This is an opportunity to just reset and rebuild things, right? It's an opportunity not only for change but for growth in the right direction.

Remember to just take a deep breath, put it into perspective. Reassess the situation, make a solid plan, surround myself with the right crystal allies for me at that moment and move forward.

You might find you also need some obstacle breaking. Then put that into place. I have a blog about that too.

Lithium to the Rescue!

Today I'm focusing on lithium-bearing minerals and crystals. Yep... talking about the element, lithium. You'll find out why in just a sec.

You might also find there's a scientific reason behind why you might be especially attracted to these lithium bearing crystals right now. We'll get to that in a bit.

The current high demand for lithium is due to 2 reasons:

Demand for lithium batteries. You see, lithium holds a large amount of energy potential. It can produce a lot of electrical current relative to its size. That makes it ideal for small batteries. Think about it, where do we use small batteries? In all these devices we're now all using all the time, right? In all our new technology.
Demand for the pharmaceutical industry; to treat various types of different mental conditions like bipolar disorder, different types of psychoses and for general mood balancing. Maybe it's due to that high electrical energy potential that makes it an ideal mood stabilizer.

My 3 Choices for Most Effective Lithium-Rich Crystals

Lithium Quartz

This crystal is a very lilac-mauve-y color (caused by inclusions within the quartz of various lithium-rich minerals).

This crystal invites in a calm energy, helps to improve mood, to relieve anxiety, assists with emotional healing, while also quite helpful with general balancing of our mood.

2. Lepidolite

A lithium-rich mica; the word, "lepidolite" comes from the Greek word "lepidos", which means scales- referring to its scaly appearance due to flakes of mica. BTW, mica is a type of sheet silicate that forms in distinct layers or sheets... and it's what's responsible for lepidolite's beautiful iridescence, high shine, and translucence. You can visibly see the mica flecks or sheets in most pieces of lepidolite.

[caption id="attachment_21693" align="aligncenter" width="720"] Rob Lavinsky, iRocks.com – CC-BY-SA-3.0 [CC BY-SA 3.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/...)], via Wikimedia Commons[/caption]This mineral is also known for emotional healing, aids in mood balancing, improves mood, relieves anxiety, promotes rest and peaceful sleep. In fact, I keep this piece right by my bedside. And when I was really having trouble sleeping I used to have a lepidolite crystal grid under the bed.

3. Kunzite

[caption id="attachment_21686" align="aligncenter" width="749"] By Didier Descouens [CC BY-SA 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/...)], from Wikimedia Commons[/caption]A lithium aluminum silicate, the pink-lilac type of kunzite is the lithium-rich variety that we're focusing on here. Kunzite (also known as "spodumene") is also known to assist with emotional healing, matters of the heart, relaxing, mental rest and general balancing of moods.

COLLECTION TIP: Lithium demand is really high right now. Pharmaceutical and tech companies are mining lepidolite and kunzite by the literal truckload! Because of that, the prices are up. You might see this reflected in the cost of kunzite and lepidolite. In fact, the prices are expected to quadruple within the next seven years. If you want a collection tip from me from me: Invest and stock up now in lithium quartz, lepidolite, and kunzite. If you're going to wait, the price is just going to keep going up and up.

Vibrational Frequencies

These are all, you'll notice, delicate mauve-ish, lilac colored stones.

That color mirrors their specific vibrational frequency; their energy. Kunzite and lepidolite, actually often grow together and are the two most popular choices for mining their lithium ore for the reasons mentioned above.

I feel there's a biological reason behind why you're attracted to certain minerals and gems. When you're attracted to a particular mineral it can actually mean that your body is in need of more of it (or the elements within it) on the physical level. Your body is trying any way that it can to attract and entrain you with that vibrational frequency and bring it into your auric field.

If you'd like to explore that topic further I have a blog post here all about that.

Just like lithium can recharge our batteries and our devices, the minerals that contain it can recharge your auric/energetic battery as well.

I hope I've given you some crystal choices today to help navigate any sort of chaotic energy shift and if you have some others to recommend or more info on lithium-rich minerals in general, please add to the comments below! I'd love to hear from you.
