I JUST finished Troll or Derby.  Just now.

Going to let it sit a week, then read through it for obvious errors/probs.

Then going to email it to my betas!

So flipping excited.

FWIW, I was listening to Styx "Come Sail Away" as I wrote the final words.  I'm not putting that in the playlist, though.  I tried making Freebird the final song, but Playlist is kinda being a bitch.

Anyway, there is NO ENCORE to Freebird.  It's Freebird, people.  Sheesh.

But Styx is fun, too.

I'm so excited!  I literally did the stupidest, most awkward, uncoordinated happy dance ever witnessed by Tashkind just now.  If Tim divorces me, it'll probably be because he had to witness that.

But, still.

I'm done, hon.  It's all in the rewrites and the editing and the packaging and all that stuff now, sweets.

YES!  YES!  YES!

I'll be needing cover art, yo.  I like this gal, how 'bout you?

Okay, I did it—hot damn, I did it.  Someone release the gold fairy dust, I am ready to fly.

Okay, so maybe I won't reach 80k, after all, but I just realized after writing today's chapter that the ending is a little closer than I'd expected, and that some of my notes had overlapped…so I'm only a chapter and an epilogue away from handing this to my beta-readers!

Do you hear that, beta-readers?  Clear your desks.  (Imagine me saying that like John Wayne in True Grit.)

Troll or Derby, coming your way, almost on schedule and everything!  Hot diggity!

Today is technically Playlist Thursday, but since I messed with that yesterday on Writer Wednesday, here's just a link…and the song of the day is The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny by the GREAT Lemon Demon.

Song of the Day: Shiny Happy People, REM.  It's not Playlist Thursday, but ask me if I care:

Get a playlist! Standalone player Get Ringtones

Playlist is green in honor of the original quote I reblogged:

mamboomfg:

"Oh green fairy, What you've done to me. There's a nothing in the sky, Waiting to get high"

Not sure what that's about, but considering the overall tone of the last of the book…Okay, man.

I'll get back to Writer Wednesday soon.  I had another death in the family and my deadlines were all hooey before that, anyway, thanks to the holidays.  Ready to get caught up!  I've also got housekeeping to do in terms of prize winners and things like that, but first, I gotta keep doing what I do, so hold on a sec, I'll be right back…

(And a purple counter for the green fairy's drinking buddy.  HEY, I might reach 80k, after all.)

There are legends, and then there are legends.  There was a reason the name "Wheeler" had become associated with the title "Protector" for generations—to the point most fey folk assumed they meant one and the same.  Debra Wheeler was about to demonstrate why.

I am so excited about writing the scene to follow, I went ahead and emailed my notes to my darling Tim.  It is nice to be loved.  I hope he isn't too traumatized by my shorthand for gore & mayhem that he forgets to come home.  Honestly, I am more excited about this one scene than anything I've written in a long time.  It's like I've got a date with destiny, tomorrow.  That's how writing should feel, you know?

The only thing I can compare it to, fiction-wise, was the time I sat down to write the Christine-in-sombrero stapler deathmatch scene, and this blows that so far off the map, it's a whole new universe out there, man.

Between you and me, I wonder how much the experience of writing this book will change the flavor of the This Brilliant Darkness sequel.  It's such a different tone.  Hrm.

Hey, if you haven't read it yet, click on that book cover there & buy (or borrow it) today from Amazon, where it's an exclusive through March something.  See why Axel Howerton called it: "…a compelling, multi-layered - and fully nuanced - modern fairytale, full of pop reference and varied philosophical allusions. This Brilliant Darkness is smart, thrilling, funny and full of great characters tangled in the kind of small-town webs Stephen King revels in. Excellent writing from a writer to watch. One of the best new writers I've read in years. Pick it up!"

I like being the best at something. Even if it is only in the eyes of some lousy Canadian.  ;)

I know Tim thinks I'm the best at many things.  Cooking & stuff.  WHAT DID YOU THINK I WAS TALKING ABOUT?  Oh, that.  Yeah, that, too.  Come home, honey!  I will not filet anyone with a rusty battleaxe tonight, I promise!*

*Unless between now and then, I read somewhere that the experience will enhance my abilities as a writer. Then, I can't be held responsible.  I'm working magic here, man.
