The “look” challenge!
I’ve been tagged by Bella Leone. According to the rules of the game, I’m supposed to search my current work in progress for the first usage of the word “look,” paste the surrounding paragraph into my blog, and tag as many people as possible. Here’s a paragraph from book three in the Sultry Springs series, Surrender to Sultry:
But Colt decided to look on the bright side. Once he locked up these yahoos, he wouldn’t have to see their ugly mugs for at least two days. “Sheriff to base,” he repeated into his mic, letting a smile lift the corners of his mouth. “Tell Horace to bring the van for six drunk and disorderlies.”
One hour and two cups of coffee later, Colt stood facing a pile of invoices, Post-It notes, and “urgent” phone messages from the mayor—a step up from dealing with drunkards and cow shit, but not by much.
I tag: Lillie Flynn, Jessica Lemmon, Kate SeRine, Kait Ballenger, and Marisa Cleveland.

ARC-love!
Look what showed up on my doorstep yesterday! Four advance reader copies of SULTRY WITH A TWIST!
Aren’t they gorgeous? I’ve often compared the publication process to a pregnancy. When PDF pages arrived for my final review, I likened the experience to an ultrasound of my book-baby. So I guess that makes these ARCs my preemies. They’re strong and healthy and weighing in at 315 pages, thanks for asking! (If you can’t tell, I’m a proud mama.)
But like any mama, I’m protective of my babies. If I have ARCs, it only stands to reason that others have them, too. And let’s face it: some readers will love this book, some will hate it, and most will fall somewhere in between. Nobody can love these children like I do. The possibility of my little book fledglings meeting a hostile reception is kind of terrifying. But like all mothers, part of my job is letting go. Sniffle, sniffle.
I don’t know how many of these Sourcebooks will distribute, but if you end up with my book baby, please give it a good home.

Cover reveal for SULTRY WITH A TWIST, plus a giveaway!
Folks, this is the moment every author lives for: a glimpse of her very first cover. After gathering reader feedback from the Discover A New Love blog, Sourcebooks listened to what you had so say and designed this:
Sigh. I think I'm in love!
Isn’t she gorgeous? I’m a very proud book mama. And since the best way to celebrate good news is with a book giveaway–and you know I love supporting my Sourcebooks sisters–I’m offering a copy of Sidney Ayers’s DEMONS PREFER BLONDES.
How can you win? It’s easy!
Leave a comment to this post and include your contact information (emailaddress (at) server (dot) com.) I promise not to use your email addy for any nefarious purpose such as framing you for murder or adding you to my mailing list.

I Survived My First RT!
What’s that, you ask? I’m referring to the Romantic Times Booklovers Convention, recently held in Chicago. Imagine a thousand readers, authors, reviewers, bloggers, librarians, booksellers, agents, and editors–all converging to celebrate what we love most: books!
What made this convention really special was the fact that I attended as a published author. And since one of my publishers, Sourcebooks, is headquartered in Chicago, they had a stellar presence at the convention. They even put together an office tour for their authors and hosted an author/librarian/bookseller cocktail party, where I got to meet some of the awesome folks who’ll be selling my books!
I didn’t take nearly enough photos, but here are a few highlights:
At the Sourcebooks office tour, holding my very own poster!
With Sourcebooks Founder & President, Dominique Raccah
With my amazing editor, Leah Hultenschmidt, at the Sourcebooks cocktail hour.
This cover isn't final, but it's still SO exciting to see it displayed!
With Lindsay (of Cupboard Maker Books), who took my autographed poster to display in her bookstore!
With romance author (and icon) Susan Elizabeth Phillips!
In which I try my hand as a cover model. Sexy, no?
What would Macy do if she met a cover model? Challenge him to an arm-wrestling match, of course!
VICTORY IS MINE! (A big thanks to Charles Paz of Fifth Elements Studios for being such a great sport!)
See? Doesn’t that look like a blast? So what if I didn’t sleep more than three consecutive hours all week? As one of my characters says in Sultry with a Twist–which is now available for pre-order…just sayin’– “I’ll have plenty of time to sleep when I’m dead.”

Unveiling my new home office!
As any author will tell you, there's no substitute for having your own office–a quiet, dedicated work space free from snoring husbands and Matchbox cars–where you can focus on the voices in your head. So I transformed our formal dining room (really, were we ever going to use it?) into my bright and sunny sanctuary-o-fiction.
Before:
Seldom-used dining room.
And after!
Ta-da!!!
Other views:
Isn't that a pretty carpet?
Yes, the walls are bare. I'm holding out for my cover art.
My very own cozy reading corner!
View from the opposite entrance.
Ipod player, calendar, and messy plot reminders on my bulletin and dry-erase boards.
Much better than a dining room, don't you think?

No, not Real Sexy Studs For Monday Sampling, thought that sounds kind of interesting. I’m talking about Random Sourcebooks Stuff From My Shelf! These are books from my “publishing sisters” I’ve read and enjoyed that are ready for a new home.
Today’s RSSFMS:
Hex in High Heels, by Linda Wisdom.
