So Easy To Love (fun sample)
Carter makes a surprising announcement: "I think I'm going to try out one of those online dating services."
"You got a good pic?" Kirsten asks.
"No. Not anything recent anyway. Thought I'd take some new photos. You guys wanna help me take some shots?"
Carter has one of those professional cameras with extra big phallic lenses and Kirsten goes nuts snapping photos. We go all over town, shooting Carter from front, back, all around. He even takes his shirt off, doing Adonis shots. All those hours at the gym has made Carter's muscles very, very happy. Back home we scrutinize the pics. Kirsten finally says, "I think this is it."
It's perfect. The photo looks exactly like Carter, only with shitloads of va va va voom.
"You look hot, Carter," I say.
"I'd reply to that," Kirsten says. "And it'd be short and simple: Dear Ethan, bring a condom."
We scream with laughter.
It was a good day.

So Easy To Love
Some of you might remember my novella So Easy To Love when it was a blog novella. I'd posted each section as a blog entry — I'd thought it'd be a fun way to read the novella. Well, according to reader feedback, it wasn't so fun. In fact, the blog was a pain in the ass to read. So I pulled the blog and decided to make it available as a book. Voila! After months of editing and formatting, it's now available at Amazon and Smashwords.
So Easy To Love began as a diversion. It was summer and I thought it'd be fun to write a typical summer romance. But in writing it, I began to discover that it's fairly impossible to shake off who I am. Fun and breezy became lost in thoughtful and contemplative. That is, the fun romance novel became a reflection on love and films, the fun turning into heartfelt sadness. Thus, the reason why I dedicated the novella to all those with a broken heart. I hope you enjoy it.
Oh! Since So Easy To Love is a romance, the ebook version at Smashwords is free until the end of February! Happy Valentine's!

A Princess of Mars
Way back when I was in high school, a guy I had a crush on recommended that I read Edgar Rice Burroughs' Mars books. He was a huge fan and always had his nose in one. I'd always meant to read A Princess of Mars but…you know how it is…
Then this week a really impressive movie trailer flashed on TV: Disney's John Carter, starring Taylor Kitsch. I adore Taylor Kitsch, who starred in Friday Night Lights, and think he is a phenomenal actor, which makes me wonder about his career choice… Anyway, I decided this was the week I read the book. Since Project Gutenberg had a Kindle version for free, it was all pretty easy.
So did I like it? Here's my verdict:
Highly entertaining. I liked it much more than Tarzan. I can see that I'll be disappointed in the new Disney film version with all that cutesy dialogue. There's nothing cutesy about this book. Surprisingly, half the book is romance, ladies: John Carter, gentleman of Virginia, falling head over heels in love with the stunningly beautiful Princess of Mars and saying such Harlequin gems as "My heart lies at your feet" (paraphrasing here, but not much). There are no bodices to rip as Martians don't wear clothes, but rescues from fates much worse than death abound.
BTW, the movie also has Bryan Cranston, James Purefoy and Ciaran Hinds! Three more of my absolutely favorite actors! Here's the trailer.
