The Nurse- Saptarshi BasuA raindrop falls, hits the groun...
The Nurse
- Saptarshi Basu
A raindrop falls, hits the ground, disintegrates and is no more.
The last light of sunlight leaves with a disappointing face.
Imagine a home in the country
Imagine a garden, rose beds
Think of the sun in the flowers,
Imagine your children playing,
As you watch the monument from a long , long distance
Isn't the air soo free of pollution ?
Schools aren’t about learning now.
Offices aren’t about working anymore.
Churches aren’t about praying now.
Restaurants aren’t about eating anymore.
Yet Gods now resides in hospitals
fighting for our lives.
Imagine a girl who wanted to live...
Just like you and me .
Imagine a girl who wanted to be
Perhaps, just like you and me
And, as you sit now in you chair and read the morning paper ,
She is no more.
I have heard of soldiers
dying in the battlefield
I have seen the deadly smoke of world war II
this is a new war with an invisible enemy
And she fought for all of us.
And then when the war is over
And then when the invisible enemy is defeated
we all will be back to our normal chores
But She is no more .
No medals around her battered face
No gaurd of honour one last time
but time will remember her
for saving soo many lives.

SHADOW
Shadow ( Post COVID19 )
_ S.B. ( Saptarshi Basu )
Time has gone by , fast forward mode
The world back to its normal senses
Buses puffing smoke as he walked towards his office.
There's a fresh coating everywhere,
Yet the shadow have not left him.
A thick layer of dust has gathered to welcome him,
Along with the old dried leaves which have fallen.
Old , few new faces across the street corners
Yet the shadow have not left him.
He coughs a bit as he settles in ,
The new air not so fresh anymore.
A strange sense of drifting clutters him
Like a sailor who looks back to his home
While moving far away.
Yet the shadow have not left him.
The shoe size of the shadow misfits him
The shirt dandling a bit more on a pale structure,
Of the shadow.
He looks for a moment till he recognises the shadow ,
Of his father
The Pandemic has created holes in our heart.
Yet the shadow have not left him.

Kolkata Book Fair - Our Beloved BoiMela Memories
#BoiMela #KolkataBookFair #Boimela2020 #InternationalBookFair #KolkataInternationalBookFair
Tomorrow ( or today as it's past 12 ) is the last day of our beloved BoiMela , Kolkata International Book Fair.
Perhaps, this is the first time that I couldn't visit even being in Kolkata. From last wednesday , down with viral fever. And though the fever has subsided now , the wreakage of severe weakness along with cold makes it impossible for me to visit tomorrow.
Story books had always been a special person in my life.As if a close friend filing up the gap of loneliness. As a child ,I use to live in quite a humble govt.quarters .One thing which was visible almost every corner was books. My parents specially my mother had been a voracious reader.I still remember as early as in class 5, I had started reading Rabindranath & russian literature.
2 books which had a long lasting impact on my then fertile mind was - (1) ইস্পাত ( How the steel was tempered) by Nikolai Ostrovsky (2) মা ( The Mother ) by Maxim Gorky .
I still remember with a faint smile on my face that my dear mother was not quite pleased watching me reading the above books and felt I might get into politics which was least looked into from a middle class family.
Though I had read non-fictions but the real enjoyment I use to get then and now is in fiction. The exploration of human mind and the depth and absurdity of thoughts can be truly enjoyed in the best fiction writing.
What more can one want or seek if he or she is given a pletora of best fiction works - Ranging from Tagore , Camus , Naipaul , Amitava ghose, Murakami, Mo Yan , Tan Twan Eng , and more and more.
Almost like being on a vacation of the best of the best imaginations.
My relation to kolkata book fair goes long back to my childhood days when we weren't in kolkata.Probably my Uncle carrying a book for me and my greatest delight and curiosity to finish it off first.
Back to my BE College days wherein the BoiMela happen to be on the Maidan ground .
The smell of books , aha !
Back then the boimela hasn't turned into a gastronomic experience yet , it was more about books and the love of art.
And then 2012 happened !
To be honest ,I never dreamt to be a writer leave apart publishing my novel. In fact ,I started writing quite late during my Onsite days in London.
The plenty of idle time you generally have after office outside of boozing, shopping , visiting new places and doing things which you had never thought in your hometown , there's still a vast room of loneliness which I tried to fillup by writing giberish.
Like anything and everything.Life in Engg college , after college , Software Industry .
Etc , etc & etc.
Of Love, loathings & longings.
And somehow in due course of time , those writings slowly transformed into a book.
And whats more , it got published.
Times of India stall , hall 1 , stall no. 5 .
The very D-day when your book gets launched and what can be a better place than our Kolkata Book Fair , our Beloved BoiMela.
So we all went.It was kind of a family get together.Me being the most nervous sort.
Quite logically , in my entire life of utter mediocracy till then , this was ' The Moment '. Wherein you get at least a little bit transformed from NoOne to a better NoOne.
Whom someone might recognize.
People started coming in.The TOI guys managing the stall smiled and welcomed me warmly.I whimmed inside the stall like a nervous deer.
Amlan , my dear friend and my wife had already taken up the valiant act to introduce me to anyone and everyone whoever came to TOI stall.Generous people surrendered to their persuation and few even bought my book.
Next thing , the book signing session followed.
In all that excitement time flew devoiding Einstein's theory of relativity and it was almost the day was about to be over.
How can you leave the boimela without having the slightest gastronomic experience.
So fish Kabiraji and frys followed.
And so the love.
As I look back painfully of missing this year 's boimela , I will be deeply waiting for it the next year.
And the year next !

NRN & Infosys Days - Simplicity & Humility
Nov 2004. Infosys Campus , Mysore.
It was a normal day like any other day. I was in my hostel room inside the campus chatting with friends.
Then around late evening felt like having an early dinner ( our classes use to start quite early ) .As I entered the canteen and ordered for a south indian thali ( mostly it was either thali or paratha or just Maggi for me as options were limited ) , I sat down on a vacant table.
Suddenly I saw an aged person wearing pure white kurta and pyjama walking in , ordered food and sat down at a distance.
I was awestuck.Time has slackened it's pace for me.
The man was NRN. That's how we lovingly called NR Narayana Murthy.Founder of Infosys.
I couldn't eat properly.I was soo much gripped by that great man's simplicity.
I mean , come on , you are the CEO of Infosys and you just walkin , smile at all and have your meal .I mean ,How !!!
I was soo much dazzled , my heartbeat going hayward.
Here sits the man who had been my idol , Here is the man for whom I left my departmental mech engg job just to learn from him , and he is having a dosa in front of me !!!
OMG!
He quickly finished his dinner and quitely walked back to the guesthouse. No one took selfie with him , 2004 was not selfie era.
The very next day NRN addressed us all.
Those were the time when even freshers like us had the independence to ask questions and tough questions.
Someone asked " Sir , it is said that you ruined Patni computers .Is it true ? " .
NRN didn't lost his cool. There wasn't an iota of anger in his voice.
Even after 16 odd years , I still remember what he said.
But that's will be a different post altogether.
Today , when I see NRN touching the feet of Ratan Tata , that simplicity and humility which I saw 16 years before , echoed infront of my eye.
To everyone who does want to create a difference in others lives ( including me ) , let's start with humility.
All other things will eventually fall in place.

Childhood Memories
Just before going to bed , felt like writing this.
There are soo many stories embedded in our lives. Each story have a smell , you still remember even after many years.
Today while walking back home watched a little puppy playing around. The faded colour of dusk has given it a darkened tinge , chestnut brown might be.
As the little dog played it flooded my mind with memories.
When I was a kid and a very naughty one , I do remember that in winters everytime whenever I use to see any nice looking fluffy puppy on the road , I use to carry straight to my home.
I loved dogs like anything. My beloved mother would at first scold me lovingly and then take the dog in.She never asked me to take them away...
We use to stay in Govt.Quarters which had a nice garden in front.
The first night the puppy would spend inside and the very next day me and my friends would build a brick house for him.
Love would pour in from different corner , Papai my friend would bring a large packet of biscuits stolen from home & Ganesh had brought a fresh new soap.Others joined with toys , balls ...the little dog seemed soo happy...soon he became so obedient and my Mother's beloved.
My mind would flutter in school thinking when I can go home and play with the puppy.
The time spend with him was soo precious one.
One day I came back from school and couldn't find him , searched everywhere.
My mother said she had searched for long but no luck.
Someone might have stolen the little puppy.I remember I cried a lot for few days , and after that again got hold of another street puppy and brought it home.
Today as my eyes set on the puppy playing on the road , I remembered...it seemed the joy in their sparking eyes were of same depth.
But my eyes have grown old , I have matured and my heart has shrinked.
I don't possess that innocence of my childhood to carry a puppy back home without the slightest thought.
Childhood winters were soo warm I felt !

KERALA TRIP MEMORIES - Part 1
Kerala trip memories - Part 1
Do you know why Kerala is called God's own Country ?
According to Hindu mythology, Kerala was created by Lord Parasurama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu by throwing his axe across the sea to create new land for his devotees to live peacefully.
So you see , Kerala is God's own creation, hence it is called God's own country!
I had never been to Kerala before. My expectation was low , as I had seen places that are marketed heavily ends up being not so magnificient experience.
Our flight was quite late in the evening , as rarely you find direct flight from kolkata to Kochi.
The real CHALLENGE was were all to visit in such a short span as we only had 5 days & 4 nights.
Kids loves sea breaches and since we had 2 such naughty and adorable kid in our trip so thought to plan accordingly.
I stumbled upon an ISLAND in Kerala - VYPIN ISLAND.
The island was formed in 1341 following a heavy flood. The striking beauty or uniqueness of the Island is that on one side you have the pristine backwaters of kerala and just on the other the blue Arabian sea !
Majestic , and you will just feel the same as you reach there.
Sadik Bhai from J & J Taxi services picked us from Kochi airport in early hours of the morning. The weather was warm and nice.
While on the way we could see the paddy fields , locals fishing and the backwaters.
Crossing few bridges we reached Cherai sea beach where our resort was located.
Cherai sea beach has numerous good hotels and resorts , but we selected SEA LAGOON HEALTH RESORT for 2 reasons - 1) its the only resort in that area with a private beach area ( and when we reached saw it was so true with security gaurds and all to give you the perfect privacy )
2) it had tied up with an Ayurvedic hospital hence Health resort and I needed some ayurvedic treatment due to critical health condition.
As we entered the resort the first thing I felt was of the poem “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner,” by Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
Water, water everywhere !
The infinity pool was married to the back waters and it seems they cohabited nicely together.
The breakfast did offered variety of south indian dishes like dosa ( they had a live counter ) , appam , uttapam etc etc.
The beach was nice though not huge with the waves of arabian sea falling just short of our feet .
And as I hit the pool the thought which embarked on my mind as to why do we travel ? Whats the need ? Is it a wastage of money as perceived by some ?
Why at all we need a vacation ?
Is it that the soul gets tired dwelling inside the same 4 walls , the same office , same commotions , same fights and needs a break ??
What is it that we seek ?

The Jar , Harappa & Surrogacy - Extremely Interesting fact on Lord Shiva
Some more EXTREMELY INTERESTING FACT from Harappan scripts & Lord Shiva -
Below are from the Harappan ( Harappa Mohenjodaro ) scripts.
Like if you take up the first symbol which looks like a “Jar” or “Water pitcher”.
This symbol has terrific inner meaning.
Rishi Vasishtha and Agastha were generated by Gods Varuna and Mitra in a sacred pitcher or water-jar used in sacrifice.
Rishi Vasishtha, the rajpurohit or holy Guru of Ikshvaku dynasty. He was also the teacher of RamChandra, the greatest king of Suryavanshis. He advised Ram on attacking Ravana, the Asura king of Lanka.
Agastha is especially known as the “jar-born” sage. He is mentioned to have emerged from kumbha .Kumbha is a Sanskrit word meaning water jar.
Interesting to note here is that, the water jar is symbolic to a woman’s womb.
The myth of miraculous birth from jars is all throughout our history.
Mr. Nolan...can you think of this concept in our modern world.’
Dr. Sanjeev looked smilingly.
‘This is nothing but modern day surrogacy theory. Can you imagine how advance science was during Indus valley period?’
Nolan and Jaya looked spellbound.
‘In Mahabharata, Drona, the priest-warrior, was generated in a wooden trough by Rishi Bharadwaja. The Kauravas were born from pots filled with clarified butter in which Gandhari’s womb was stored.
The Nagas, the warrior tribe whose insignia was that of a serpent, also had similar practices. The cult of Naga worship spread all across Harappan civilization.
The Pallavas of Kanchi in modern day Tamil Nadu, who claims Drona to be one of their remote ancestors, traced their descent from a water-pitcher.
Now coming to the seal , there is no doubt that the man sitting in yogic posture is none other than Lord Rudra.

79 Degree -EXTREMELY Interesting Fact on LORD SHIVA
Read more interrsting facts about Shiva in my novel RUDRA TRILOGY
- https://www.amazon.in/SECRET-IMMORTAL...
Very interesting - Can you guess what is common between all these prominent temples.
1. Kedarnath
2. Kalahashti
3. Ekambaranatha- Kanchi
4. Thiruvanamalai
5. Thiruvanaikaval
6. Chidambaram Nataraja
7. Rameshwaram
8. Kaleshwaram N-India
Very interesting - Can you guess what is common between all these prominent temples.
If your answer is they all are Shiva temples, you are only partially correct.
It is actually the longitude in which these temples are located.
They all are located in 79° longitudes. What is surprising and awesome is that how the architects of these temples many hundreds of kilometres apart came up with these precise locations without GPS or any such gizmo like that.
1. Kedarnath 79.0669°
2. Kalahashti 79.7037°
3. Ekambaranatha- Kanchi 79.7036°
4. Thiruvanamalai 79.0747°
5. Thiruvanaikaval 78.7108
6. Chidambaram Nataraja 79.6954°
7. Rameshwaram 79.3129°
8. Kaleshwaram N-India 79.9067°
See the picture -- all are in a straight line.
You will be surprised to know that there are Shiva temples in India which are built in a straight line from Kedarnath to Rameswaram. Wonder what science and technology we had with our ancestors, which we could not understand till today? The Kedarnath of Uttarakhand, the Kaleshwaram of Telangana, Kalahasti of Andhra Pradesh, Akhaseshwar of Tamil Nadu, Chidambaram and finally the Rameswaram temples have been built in the geographical straight line of or nearer to that of 79 ° E 41 ' 54 "Longitude.
All these temples represent the expression of gender in the 5 elements of nature, which we call the punch Tatwa (FIVE Elements) in common language. Punch tatwa i.e. Earth, water, fire, air and space. These has released these five Shiva LINGAS on the basis of five elements.
1. Water is represented at Thiruvnanakwal Temple,
2. The representation of the fire is in Thiruvannamalai,
3. The air is represented in Kalahasti,
4. The earth is represented in Kanchipuram and in the cold
5. The space or the sky is represented at Chidambaram Temple! These five temples represent the wonderful mating of Vastu-Vigyan-Veda.
The speciality is also found in these temples in a geographical manner. These five temples were built according to yoga Science, and have been placed in a certain geographical alignment with each other. There will certainly be science that will affect the human body.
These temples were constructed about four thousand years ago when there was no satellite technology available to measure the latitude and longitude of those places. So how was the five temples so accurately established? God Only Knows.
There is a distance of 2383 km between Kedarnath and Rameswaram. But all these temples fall in almost the same parallel line. After all, thousands of years ago, the technology of which these temples have been built in a parallel line is a mystery to this day. The Shimmer lamp in the Srikalahasti temple shows that it Represent AIR Linga. The water spring in the inner plateau of the Thiruvanikka temple shows that Represent WATER-Linga. The huge lamp on the Annamalai hill shows that Represent FIRE-Linga. The Sawanbhu Linga of the sands of Kanchipuram shows that Represent the EARTH Linga and the incorporeal (NIRAKAR) state of Chidambaram is Representing as the incorporeal, heavens(AKASH) Eather element of God.
What is more surprising now is that the five Lingas, representing the five elements of the universe, have been installed centuries ago in a similar line. We should be proud of our ancestors ' knowledge and Intelligence that they had a science and technology that did not even distinguish modern science. It is believed that it is not only the five temples but also the many temples in this line which lie in the straight line from Kedarnath to Rameswaram. This line is also called the "SHIVA SHAKTI AKSH Rekha". It is likely to be made by keeping the entire temple of Kailash in the regions which falls in 81.3119 ° E!? The answer only God Knows.. ...
Amazing thing. Mahakal What is the relationship between the Shiva Jyotirlingams......??
The distance of the remaining Jyotirlingams from Ujjain is also interesting-
Ujjain to Somnath-777 km
Ujjain to Omkareshwar-111 km
Ujjain to Bhimashankar-666 km
Kashi Vishwanath from Ujjain-999 km
From Ujjain, Mallikarjun-999 km
Kedarnath from Ujjain-888 km
Ujjain to Tryanbakeshwar-555 km
Ujjain to Baijnath-999 km
Rameswaram-1999 km from Ujjain
From Ujjain to Nauseshwara-555 km
There was nothing in Hinduism without any reason.
Ujjain is considered to be the centre of the Earth. As a centre for thousands of years in Sanatan Dharma, a man-made instrument for calculating the sun and astrology in Ujjain has also been created about 2050 years ago.
And when the imaginary line on Earth Imaginary was created by the British scientist about 100 years ago, the central part of it was Ujjain. Even today, scientists come to Ujjain to know about the sun and space.

Very interesting - Can you guess what is common between all these prominent temples.
If your answer is they all are Shiva temples, you are only partially correct.
It is actually the longitude in which these temples are located.
They all are located in 79° longitudes. What is surprising and awesome is that how the architects of these temples many hundreds of kilometres apart came up with these precise locations without GPS or any such gizmo like that.
1. Kedarnath 79.0669°
2. Kalahashti 79.7037°
3. Ekambaranatha- Kanchi 79.7036°
4. Thiruvanamalai 79.0747°
5. Thiruvanaikaval 78.7108
6. Chidambaram Nataraja 79.6954°
7. Rameshwaram 79.3129°
8. Kaleshwaram N-India 79.9067°
See the picture -- all are in a straight line.

Happy Birthday Dada , Autograph Dio...
The year was 1996....
The month was June.
A Bengali boy from Behala , Kolkata around 24 years old was struggling to make a place in Indian team & a mark in the history of cricket.
Another Bengali boy, also a south paw, from a small town with ancestrial roots in Behala was struggling for his upcoming ICSE exam the very next year and with his shyness.
The day was 22nd.
History was created at Lords, the home of Cricket when the 24 year old scored a magical 131 runs with the help of 20 boundaries that made batting look as smooth and easy as ever. His knock helped India score 429 runs and take a first innings lead. That was the beginning of a bright chapter in the history of Indian cricket as Saurav Ganguly went from strength to strength as a batsman.
Few days passed and then the trouble started happening for the shy teenager in his small town school .Out of nowhere girls noticed a striking resemblance with the newfound cricketing legend.
And as a bolt from blue a girl proposed . An extremely embarassing moment for a shy middle class teen who had trouble concentrating between books & football.
That was the time when he felt he could go invisible .Commentators were in awe of Ganguly's magical batting. Former England captain Geoffrey Boycott gave him the title of 'Prince of Calcutta' .But all was not well for the small town boy .More people from his neighbourhood has started noticing the resemblance and as the Prince of Calcutta became more famous more girls started noticing. It was quite a tough time for the teen going to school and trying to be unnoticable .Remember it was the 90's when Kumar Shanu had created a permanent dent in our hearts of heart by melodeous songs like ' Mera Dil Bhi Kitna Pagal Hai ' from Saajan ,
'Mera Chand Mujhe Aaya Hai Nazar ' from Mr.Aashiq and many more.As Ganguly went on to create history and becoming the most enigmatic captain India has ever seen , this teenager completed his board exams with lot of distraction and teenage adrenaline rush .Even after soo many years when I look back I can only find Dada taking up the largest space in our heart.Yes there is Sachin and will always be , but Dada is someone who mixes with your emotions , your fight to come out against odd and to stand up against downfalls. And even after soo many years as I look back I can only smile and laugh heartily to those embarassing yet so innocent and joyfull moments of my life.Happy Birthday Dada , which you mesmerise us another hundred years and even more by your charisma.#HappyBirthdayDada
