Wicked Romance 2011 ~ The Best of….

I thought this was so cool…  I had to share.  Come help me celebrate the Best of Wicked Romance for 2011.

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here's an excerpt:

A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 5,000 times in 2011. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 4 trips to carry that many people.

Wicked Romance ~ Wishing You Happy Holidays

Happy Holidays!

I wanted to take a moment during the busy holiday season to wish Wicked Romance followers a very Happy Holiday!  May your New Year bring much happiness.

Do you have a special holiday tradition you would like to share?  Or have a New Year's resolution for 2012?

Our Family's Holiday Tradition:

Our family has grown over the years, so it was getting fairly expensive to purchase gifts for everyone.  My sisters (4 of us) decided to pick Kris Kringles each year.  We have an unbiased third-party (life long family friend) who has been commissioned as the Kris Kringle Facilitator.  So every year I get this email with my secret Santa name.  I have one sister who always tries to deduce who has who.  Packages must be unlabeled. We keep it a surprise until the very end.

New Year's Resolution:

1.  I have about 20-30 pounds of baby fat to get rid of, so I guess this is the year to get back to the gym.  My husband and I have agree to make the family more active.  Doing outdoor activities on the weekends.

2.  My next resolution is to finish up the Key to the Cursed series.  I'm in the middle of writing Kit's and Kamen's story, but there are secondary characters that are screaming to have a voice ~ Bomani, Inpu, Toban, Sin and Johnathan, father to Lilly, Kit, and Kendra.

Happy New Year! 2012

Holiday Blog Hop ~ Best Toys of the 70′s, 80′s, 90′s

You know your old when they come out with the BEST OF's…  Some of the bands you listened to in college are now considered CLASSIC ROCK.  So in the spirit of the Holiday, I'd like to take a stroll down memory lane. Yes, to those wonder years of the Holidays when you spent sleepless nights praying for that one toy you've been dying to have.

Now that I am a parent, I can appreciate my parents fighting through the stores during the holiday mad rush to get that last toy box on the shelf. Thankfully, shopping rage wasn't as common back then, although I do remember a news team filming parents fighting over the last Cabbage Patch doll on the shelves.  Oh, the yesteryears. What fond memories….

So let us take a look at what we grew up with:

~1970′s ~

Can anyone guess what this is???

I'll give the youngins a hint out there.  PONG was one of the first video games.  The Atari VCS 2600 was released in 1977 for $199 dollars.  There were 9 game cartridges.  I remember playing this at my best friends house for hours on end.  It was a home video game revolution.

   RUBIX CUBE

Oh, yes.  Who could forget the Rubix Cube.  Hell, if I couldn't get but 4-sides and that was using a cheat book.  Hey, don't give me a hard time.  I was only 7 at the time.  The Creator of this wonder was from Budapest, Hungary.  His design took the world by storm and has started to show back up in the stores.  I better go back and see if my mom still has the cheat book in her basement.

Honorable Mentions:  SIMON, Star Wars Action Figures, Uno.

~ 1980 ~

Cabbage Patch Dolls

The oh so loveable Cabbage Patch Dolls.  Now these things caused riots in the streets.  I honestly think these things were sold on the black market. I know my sister tried to sell me for one, just kidding. According to the website (click on picture) depending upon the edition, adoption fees begin at $199.00 and go up. Geez.  I'm glad I have boys.

MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE

Okay, for our male blog hoppers out there.  Who didn't have a HE MAN or Battle Cat.  This Blogger has a dedicated site that I think you need to see.  It is an amazing collection of photographs.  You have to see it for yourself.  Click HERE.  There are rumors there is a new movie in the works.  He Man is not dead.

Other Honorable Mentions:  Pound Puppies, Care Bears, My Little Pony, Glo Worms

~1990~
[image error]  POKEMON

Okay, I have to say I never quite understood the cards, but my nephew probably amassed well over $500 worth of these things.  Not only were the cards an enormous hit, the cartoon was also.

BEANIE BABIES

I admit I had a few of these. More that five, less than ten.  I'm not sure where they ended up over the years, certainly not at any auctions or trading parties.  We, humans, do have the strangest fixation with collections.

Honorable Mentions:  Rollarblades, Nintendo's Gameboy, Tickle Me Elmo

So, I hope this has brought back some great Holiday memories.  To be eligible to enter the Blog Hop give away, you must leave a comment on the blog, so  I'd love to hear what your favorite Holiday toy was growing up.
If you'd like 10 extra entries into the drawing (no obligation), please do one of the following: subscribe to Wicked Romance, follow me on twitter, or ADD my novel SOUL REBORN on your Goodreads TBR. Please let me know in your comment which you chose, so that I can give you credit.

Please keep the reviews coming ~ Soul Reborn

I am always shocked and delighted to see a new review of Soul Reborn, good, bad or other.  Well, I'm glad to say that most are favorable.  There is something so gratifying when readers enjoy the story you poured your heart and soul into creating, better than any royalty check.  Reviews by readers and bloggers are probably the most powerful statement about a story.  I always make a point of thanking the author of the review, regardless of the rating. They took the time to share their opinions.  Isn't that what writing is all about?  Writing, sharing and passing the story along.

Here is the latest review of Soul Reborn at Lyre's Musings.

More reviews at Goodreads, & RT Book Reviews.

Thank you to all who read and spread the word about Lilly's and Asar's story.

Author Patricia Lee ~ Revealing Secrets about Destiny's Past

Host Jean:  I'd like to introduce you to an up and coming author, Patricia Lee and her fabulous book, Destiny's Past.  I love to find new books that are outside of my normal vampire-demon addiction.  Destiny's Past is a Fantasy Romance that is written to please all types of readers.  I think you will be just as fascinated once you read this:

Back Cover Blurb:

No-nonsense medical examiner, Kelly Richards, relies on the familiar comforts of science and scalpels to get her through the day. So when a not-so-dead guy who claims he's from the past lands on her autopsy table, she considers calling the men in white coats to escort him to a padded room. But Jarek's old-world ways and hot gaze trick her heart into falling for him—a mistake she swore she'd never make again.

When Jarek, Prince of Leisos, discovers someone he trusts has been slowly poisoning him, he travels to the future in search of a cure. Driven by vengeance, he enlists the help of an impudent scientist to return him to his time. Caught between his growing desire for Kelly and the need to expose his would-be assassin before he strikes again, Jarek must either forfeit his ticket home or lose the only woman he's ever loved.

Patricia, please introduce yourself and tell us what inspires you.

I've had a love affair with the written word since childhood, many times immersing myself in the stories of Enid Blyton and Carolyn Keene. An active imagination gave inspiration to short stories and my first play as a teen. As an adult I penned the Clem Battye award winning short story titled The Battle and A Precious Glimpse in Time, which was published in Mining For Crystal Gems by PWAP. My full-length play, The Truth About Lies, was staged at a theatrical festival competition in 2008.

Although still in pursuit of a place truly called home, I currently live in Ontario, Canada with my husband and three cats, all of which claim rule over the house at one point or another.  When my nose isn't pressed to the laptop monitor, you can find me at the public library. Besides dreaming up the next novel, I also enjoy traveling, baking, camping, wine, and of course reading – not necessarily in that order.

Can you tell us a little about your book and its characters, Kelly and Jarek?

Destiny's Past is a fantasy/romance that has intrigue (someone is trying to kill Prince Jarek), time travel (Jarek gets sent forward in time in the hopes to find a cure to the poison invading his body) wit (because Kelly believes Jarek's cheese has slipped off his cracker in his claim of being from two thousand years in the past) and of course lots of romance. Gotta have that.

Jarek is the strong and sexy prince of Leisos, who's a bit of a playboy and doesn't appreciate not having anyone (especially a woman) take him at his word. Kelly is a fiercely independent and thinks Jarek is nuts. Because she saved his life, she tries to help him out until she can figure out where to call the guys in the white coats to take him away to a padded room. Only the more time she spends with him the more her heart is captured by him and eventually she tries to help Jarek get back home.

 A man from the past, a woman from the future— Whatever would they have in common?

They are both trying to get away from something. Kelly needs to see things from the past for her to deal with her present life and Jarek needs to visit the future to deal with things in his present.

How did you decide that the heroine would be a medical examiner?

First off I needed the heroine to have medical training but I wanted Kelly to be hiding from the pain of her past. What better place than the evening shift in a morgue where she doesn't have to deal with living people.  Plus Jarek's appearance into the present made more impact arriving alive in a morgue than showing up at a hospital. I mean, wouldn't you be creeped out if a body you were about to autopsy was still breathing?

Can you describe the world that Jarek comes from?

Leisos (pronounced Laysōs) of course, doesn't exist but I pictured it similar to the topography of what used to be northern Persia. Warm but not totally desert. It's a small, peaceful country ruled by a decent king. It existed around two thousand years ago so the people were dressed in long, baggy dresses or trousers. Think "Ten Commandments"

Do you have a favorite line from Destiny's Past you would like to share? And why is it your favorite?

"And that your honor is why I killed him."

I love the line because of the scene it comes from. Although the words sound serious, the scene it comes from is hilarious. I still crack a smile when I read it.

The Daughters of the Crescent Moon Trilogy:  So this is the first book in the series, what comes next?

I am currently working on editing the first draft of book two in the series. One of the secondary characters comes to the forefront in this installment but a few of the characters from book one also make an appearance.

Where can the readers find you and more about your fabulous book?

I'd love to hear from people. They can stop by my website at www.patriciaclee.com and drop me a line; visit my blog called "A Step Beyond" (where the more esoterical side of me comes out) at www.authorpatriciaclee.wordpress.com or say hello on my Facebook page www.facebook.com/authorpatriciaclee

Destiny's Past would be a great stocking stuffer, where can we buy it?

Destiny's Past is available in both print or ebook format at the following places:

Jean Host:  Thank you, Patricia for giving readers a snap shot of your great book and spending time at Wicked Romance today.  Kelly and Jarek make a fabulous couple for an even greater story.

Patricia:  Thanks so much for having me Jean. I really enjoyed myself and even though it's early, I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and all the best in the New Year.

Guest Author Lynn Rush ~ 1st Person MALE POV

Host Jean Murray:  I am so happy to welcome Author Lynn Rush to Wicked Romance today.  Her novel, Wasteland, from Crescent Moon Press is a fabulous tale about good versus evil with Angels, Demons and Guardians.  I've had the pleasure of reading Lynn's debut release and will tell you it is fabulous.  Take a moment and check out Wasteland's Book Trailer.

Book Blurb:

Bound by the blood contract his human mother signed four centuries ago, half-demon, David Sadler, must obey his demonic Master's order to capture fifteen-year-old Jessica Hanks. But as he learns more about her, he realizes she may be the key to freedom from his demonic enslavement.

The only obstacle—Jessica's distractingly beautiful Guardian, Rebeka Abbott. He must not give in to their steamy chemistry, or he will lose his humanity. But fresh off a quarter millennia of sensory deprivation as punishment for not retrieving his last target, he may not be able to resist temptation long enough to save what's left of his human soul.

So, let me introduce you to Lynn…

Lynn Rush began her writing career in 2008. She has both an undergraduate and graduate degree in the mental health field and has enjoyed applying that unique knowledge to develop unique characters. A former inline speed skater and mountain biker, Lynn has been known to test the limits of her athletic endurance. So, when she's not writing, she spends time enjoying the Arizona sunshine by road biking nearly 100 miles per week with her husband of fifteen years and going on jogs with her loveable Shetland Sheep dogs.

GUEST AUTHOR LYNN RUSH ~ FIRST PERSON POINT OF VIEW

I love reading and writing in the first person point of view. There's just something so deep about it. But since my novel, Wasteland, came out, I've been

asked a couple of questions about writing the first person point of view.

First one:

How'd you choose a male POV when you're a chick? Okay, they didn't word the question exactly like that, I paraphrased.

The answer:

Men intrigue me. Specifically how they react to things, and their innate need to protect. Now, I've written a couple articles about writing the male POV, one of which one was posted with Chuck Sambuchino's Writer's Digest blog, so I won't rehash the details of that here. But one really interesting thing I love is men tend to be very visual and not much about talking. That was a fun challenge to tackle when penning David's character.

Another question I'm often asked:

The MALE POV…Fine, I get that…but he was a half-demon on top of that? What were you thinking? Demons are typically the bad guy and you wrote the story from HIS point of view?

The answer:

OH YEAH. It's super fun to write about tortured characters. And poor David is just that. He didn't ask his mother to sell his soul to Lucifer. He didn't ask to be half-demon and have to run souls for the devil. He didn't want to kill innocents to get his marks, but if he didn't complete his tasks he suffered solitary confinement for his failure.

Two hundred and fifty years of solitary…

All he wanted was to be free. So, he wasn't all that bad. Sure, he had to do some naughty things throughout the centuries, but he clung to the little human soul he had left, hoping to find a way out. That was just really fun to write.

 ~~~~~
So, readers…what's your
favorite point of view to read?
Writers…what point of view do
you enjoy writing (and reading for that matter)?
 Here's a little taste of Wasteland:
Excerpt
"One more dance?" She focused on me, her lips puckered out. "That song was half-way through, so it doesn't count."
"I should g-"
"Just one." She gathered me to her, flattening her breasts against my chest. So close she had to put one of her feet between mine so we could move. Her warmth seeped through her thin shirt into mine. Hunger for her forced the air from my lungs. The demon demanded to be let out.
"So, do you have a name?" Her minty breath washed over me, and I put my hands on her hips.
"What is yours?" I asked.
"Rebeka, but everyone calls me Beka."
"You frequent this establishment?"
Her inner thigh skimmed my leg as she leaned into me more. My hold on her hips tightened, keeping her core from mine. The prickle of my demon sliced at my heart, urging me to pull her close. My heart pounded and body tightened. I couldn't handle much more touching before I lost control.
"Yes. I'm here often." She held my gaze. "Tell me your name."
"I am David."
We swayed in silence, her body dangerously close to mine, yet I absorbed every touch. I played with fire remaining in her embrace, but for unknown reasons, I dove in further.
"Where are you from, Beka?"
"Here. I was raised here. You?"
"Nowhere special. Passing through town."
Her gaze inched down. "Just passing through? How long will you be here?"
"Not sure yet."
Her teeth sank into her lip again. I stiffened. That gesture with her mouth was too much. "I should be going now."
"Will you be back?" She loosened her grip.
Frigid air seeped between us, and I wanted to pull her close again. She felt like heaven against me. "I might be."
"Hope so." She winked.
My gaze swept over her body, taking in the soft, delicate skin held captive by her tank top. With each breath her chest swelled. We hadn't danced quickly, but she was winded. A thin,
black line of ink peeked out from behind her earlobe. The beginnings of a tattoo. Possibly marking her identity. Guardians bore a tattoo distinguishing them from humans. I drew in a breath, strengthening my resolve to remain in control, and cupped her cheek. She gasped and leaned into my hand like I'd hoped.
The fury of blazing heat streaming from her face in my grasp threatened to distract me. My pulse hammered. But I had to see the mark. A thin line followed the curve of her lobe and  disappeared into the shadow behind her ear. Her teeth grated her lip. Must be a nervous habit. But the action chipped at my resolve each time.
One quick taste.
I brought my other hand to her face, the side with the mark, and curled my fingers around her neck, moving my thumb behind her ear. Her hands cuffed my wrists, but not to push me  away. Instead her stare bore into mine like a freight train. The flashing lights of the club bounced a coral, teal, and violet rainbow over her shimmering skin.
The people surrounding us blurred into oblivion, and the music faded into a storm of muffled pitches and tones. I concentrated on her shining lips and took in the warmth of her body so close to mine. I wanted only the sense of touch to be awake while I reveled in the silky texture of her skin. For so long I'd touched nothing. If I was going to break my rules, I would enjoy it.
Her hands glided from my wrists down my forearms and up my biceps, sending a ripple of desire through my soul. I could resist no longer. I brushed my lips against hers and tasted melon. She heaved a sharp breath and clamped her fingers around my shoulders, holding me in place. Scents of lilac permeated me. My heart hammered, and my demon pounded, wanting out. Wanting her. I turned my head, severing our connection. Too intense. Must stay in control. She let out a whimper. I pressed my mouth to her cheek and tilted her head.
I almost wished I hadn't.
