Operation Mockingbird was a secret campaign by the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to influence media. Begun in the 1950s, it was initially organized by Cord Meyer and Allen W. Dulles, it was later led by Frank Wisner after Dulles became the head of the CIA.

The organization recruited leading American journalists into a network to help present the CIA’s views, and funded some student and cultural organizations, and magazines as fronts. As it developed, it also worked to influence foreign media and political campaigns, in addition to activities by other operating units of the CIA.

Synopsis:

When you can't hear...death comes silently. 

Scotland Yard detective Valerie Crowther is assigned to investigate the murder of a student at a university for the Deaf in London, England. The murder investigation coincides with a deadly flu virus outbreak, resulting in the university being quarantined from the outside world.

When more Deaf students are murdered, it becomes clear there is a serial killer operating within the sealed-off university. A chilling cat-and-mouse game evolves as the unknown killer targets Valerie and the virus claims more lives.

My new book will soon be published...







Silent Fear (A novel inspired by true crimes), which I've co-written with Lance Morcan, is a suspenseful, atmospheric and claustrophobic British thriller. A female detective is assigned to investigate the murder of a student at a university for the deaf in London. The murder investigation coincides with a deadly flu virus outbreak, resulting in the university being quarantined from the outside world.

Set in the often underreported world of the Deaf, we hope Silent Fear will give readers a unique insight into what everyday life for Deaf and Hard of Hearing people is like. We have worked closely with the Deaf community to ensure authenticity.

This novel was inspired by the murders of two Deaf students at Gallaudet University, one of the world’s most prestigious learning institutions for the Deaf, in the early 2000’s. The investigating authorities didn’t know if it was an ‘inside job’ and for a time nearly everyone connected to Gallaudet was under suspicion.

One of the producers on board the film adaptation, New Zealand filmmaker Brent Macpherson, is Deaf and is obviously a fantastic asset to the production. We are very appreciative that Brent has seen the cinematic potential in our story and has poured his heart and soul into developing the associated film project.

Based on the remarkable true story of Irish convict John Graham, WHITE SPIRIT is an epic historical adventure set in 19th Century Australia.

After escaping from the notorious Moreton Bay Penal Settlement, Graham finds refuge with the Kabi, a tribe of Aborigines who eventually accept him as one of their own.

Attempts to recapture Graham are orchestrated by a variety of contrasting characters working for the all-pervasive British Empire. They include Moreton Bay's tyrannical, opium-addicted commandant Lord Cheetham, the dashing yet warlike Lieutenant Hogan, native tracker Barega and the penal settlement's captain, Tom Marsden.

Marsden's young daughter Helen, a progressive lady ahead of her time who is both an egalitarian and a feminist, boldly inserts herself into the clash between the Irish convict, her father and Moreton Bay's other iron-fisted rulers. Helen complicates things further when she finds herself in a Pride and Prejudice-style love triangle with men on opposite sides of the conflict.

When Scottish woman Eliza Fraser is found shipwrecked and close to death in Kabi territory, Graham and his legion of pursuers, as well as the Irishman's adopted Aboriginal family, are all forced to navigate a multi-faceted rescue mission. The precarious rendezvous is made all the more dangerous by Helen Marsden's ethically-driven meddling that often outwits the men involved.

WHITE SPIRIT is not only based on arguably the great Australian (true) story, a sweeping tale that encapsulates all the nuances of the southern continent's unique history, it also provides readers with detailed insights into the tribal life of First Australian (Aboriginal) peoples.


A few notes about our writing process for White Spirit:

John Graham's story is not well known - certainly not as well known as that of Eliza Fraser whose life is integrally and forever linked with the Irish convict's. That's surprising, to us at least, because John's adventures in the wilds of an untamed Australia must surely rank with the most incredible true-life tales of survival. Not only Down Under, in Australia, but anywhere in the world. Having both lived in south east Queensland for many years, and having regularly visited the Kabis' former domain (the Sunshine Coast), we can only marvel at John Graham's bravery, endurance, fortitude and gumption.

Though WHITE SPIRIT is first and foremost a novel and therefore a work of fiction, many of the adventures described herein happened - exactly as related in some cases, and with some embellishments for drama's sake in others. In reality, John's story was so unbelievably remarkable it needn't have been dramatized. However, as novelists, we couldn't resist expanding upon and adding characters to certain true-life events. The great challenge, of course, was the need to always stay true to the broad historical realities while subtly infusing "fiction".

We sincerely hope we have also done justice to the Indigenous Australians in our writing. We strived for accuracy and balance in our portrayals of these unique people. Through Eliza Fraser's experience, we show the cruelty the Kabi were capable of, while, through John's experiences, we show their love for family, their community-mindedness, their incredible hunting and tracking skills, and their ability to survive in the most unforgiving of environments.

As the "authors" are infamous Holocaust deniers & notorious anti-Semites known for inciting racial hate, there have been news reports about this matter including reports by Jewish media, Israeli media, AU/NZ media (even Neo-Nazi and White Supremacist organizations are covering the matter on their blogs)...

When Papamoa-based publishing company Sterling Gate Books published “DEBUNKING HOLOCAUST DENIAL THEORIES: Two Non- Jews Affirm the Historicity of the Nazi Genocide”, authors Lance and James Morcan didn’t expect to see another book released with an identical cover image and similar title slamming their book.

But that’s exactly what happened when UK company Castle Hill Publishers published “Fail: ‘Debunking Holocaust Denial Theories’: How James and Lance Morcan Botched Their Attempt to Affirm the Historicity of the Nazi Genocide”, by denier Carlo Mattogno, author of numerous books and papers championing Holocaust denialism.

Mattogno’s book includes a foreword by none other than the infamous anti-Semitic author/publisher Germar Rudolf who established Castle Hill Publishers and who, “in 2005 was arrested in the U.S., deported to Germany and sentenced to 44 months imprisonment for his publishing activities.”

That’s according to an article on the publisher’s own blog at codoh.com, which openly promotes the philosophies of the Committee for Open Debate on the Holocaust.

In reality, Rudolf served a two year prison sentence in Germany for inciting racial hatred, disparaging the dead, and for libel.

The Morcans’ book “Debunking Holocaust Denial Theories”, with foreword by Holocaust survivor Hetty E. Verolme, was written in close consultation with Holocaust survivors and World War Two historians.

In a review on Amazon one of the Holocaust survivors, author Peter Kubicek, recommends the Morcans’ book “to everyone who has an open mind and wishes to learn more about this important topic.” Kubicek also states that the “book is the result of prodigtious research.”

As the book’s blurb states, “No stone is left unturned in meticulously verifying the historical facts of the genocide. The Morcans present a wide array of sources including Nazi documentation, eyewitness accounts, scientific reports and shocking photographic evidence to shut down the debate deniers wish to create. One by one, the various arguments Holocaust deniers use to try to discredit wartime records are carefully scrutinized and then systematically disproven.”

The author of published “Fail: ‘Debunking Holocaust Denial Theories’” takes issue with this, claiming “their knowledge even of their own side’s source material was dismal, and the way they backed up their misleading or false claims was pitifully inadequate”. He then devotes the entirety of his book to debunking the Morcans’ claims chapter by chapter.

Sydney-based James Morcan said today that he and his father consider the publication of a book debunking their own work a back-handed compliment of sorts.

“For a criminally convicted Nazi-apologist and an anti-Semitic author to go to the enormous trouble of writing and publishing a book analysing ours to this extent shows they consider the facts we present a serious threat to their publishing activities and their bogus Holocaust denial claims,” says James. “It essentially signals to anyone with an ounce of common sense that the historical facts we present in our book are indisputable.”

James says the comments of one Amazon reviewer best sum up his opinion of “that other book.” He refers to a 1-star review by a Holocaust survivor, which reads, “Whenever verifiable historical facts are presented, there are always some doubting Thomases who claim that the facts are wrong: in this case it’s anti-Semites and Holocaust-deniers. They are always ready to crawl from under a rock.”

“I couldn’t have put it any better myself,” says James.

Top 3 books that have influenced my life

Another author recently asked me what are the top 3 books that have influenced my life. It's tough to narrow it down to only three, but these are the ones that came to mind:



Making Time: Why Time Seems to Pass at Different Speeds and How to Control it by Steve Taylor is a book I often think back to even tho I read it years ago. Interesting ideas written by an author who understands neuroscience and can explain it to the layman - quite a few insights on how to live a really full and meaningful life in this book.

Confessions of an Economic Hitman by John Perkins is a great book if you want to understand how individual countries do get, or don't get, a fair distribution of the world's resources. Makes you realize why underhanded tactics by the likes of the CIA, MI6 etc, have allowed countries like the US or the UK to remain at the top economically for so long and perhaps why other should-be affluent countries like China, India, Brazil and many African nations have taken so many decades/centuries just to compete...

Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananda is a mind-blowing autobiography...I believe a lot of ancient wisdom and also knowledge about the human potential and the mind itself is understood in advanced Yoga and those who descend from ancient India. This title was Steve Jobs' favorite book by the way and the only one he ever downloaded onto his iPad before he died.

This book has been written for those who believe the Holocaust is a fairy tale. It has been excellently researched by authors James & Lance Morcan, and they have proven beyond any doubt that the Holocaust did occur.

Those who deny the Holocaust are not only ill informed, but their resistance to accepting a well establish fact comes from a deep-seated hatred of the Jewish people. In other words they are anti-Semites.

Beyond a shadow of a doubt, the Nazis committed this heinous crime and the German people – who in the main were aware of the atrocities but kept quiet about them – are therefore guilty by association.

SIX MILLION Jewish people were murdered in a manner which can scarcely be imagined except in the evil minds of the Nazis who set about bringing to fruition ‘The Final Solution’ – which they very nearly achieved. In total, they murdered and slaughtered 11,000,000 innocent people without mercy, and this figure does not include deaths resulting from the battles of war.

As a Holocaust survivor I can speak of it as I did experience the terrible conditions for fifteen long months in Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. I vividly recall the hours standing for roll call during snowfalls, heavy rains, heatwaves and storms. We could not sit on the ground as we would lose our food rations for two days if we did.

They counted us, but the SS always concluded two or three were missing, even though this was never the case as there was no way anybody could ever escape the camp with the watch towers everywhere and the SS men constantly on patrol with their dogs. They often forced us to stand for three or four hours, and sometimes up to nine hours, during roll call. Young and old were meted out this mental and physical cruelty.

Food was 4 cm (1.5 inches) of black bread which was already weeks old. The SS had to put vinegar in the bread so that fungus would not grow in it. We also received three quarters of a litre of brown watery soup with a piece of carrot or parsnip floating in it. Those were our entire rations day in, day out for every 24 hours.

The beatings, the terrors, the unspeakable sufferings, the deprivation of water, the lack of protection from the harsh weather conditions, and being dressed in cotton grey and white (the colours of a slave labourer), all combined to strip us of our identities. We were only known by a number. Number 10564 was mine.

I was a 13-year-old girl when we were taken from our home in Amsterdam at 4.00am. Together with my parents and two little brothers we were deported to the transit camp Westerborg where we stayed for four months. During this time we saw many, many trains leave for Auschwitz. My father’s parents were on one of these trains and they went straight to the gas chambers.

How unspeakably evil the Nazis were. They told the Dutch people that those detained would simply be put to work in Germany to support the war industry. The Nazis also told the Dutch public that detainees would be given a home and that the father in each detained family would work in a factory and the mother would stay home to care for her children. That’s how the Nazis managed to orchestrate a quiet and orderly transportation of 105,000 people from the Netherlands.

On the 1st of February 1944 we were on the train to Bergen Belsen where for 10 months we were together with my parents. After eventually being separated from my parents it was my task to take care of my little brothers and also 40 other younger children. With the help of two Polish nurses we managed to stay alive as a group and were liberated by the English army on the 15th of April, 1945.

On the 1st of January 1945 there were 60,000 people in Belsen in an area not bigger than three football fields. By the 15th of April 1945, some 40,000 had died of malnutrition and typhus and in the months following the liberation another 17,000 died.

Of the 105,000 people deported from the Netherlands, only 5000 returned from the camps alive.

It is most important that the Holocaust is remembered. Let’s hope this book will contribute toward that.
