The Bittersweet Vine Blog Tour @ Abingdon Writers

This week my tour hits Abingdon Writers. Being an active member of this group has taught me so much.  I wouldn't be where I am today without their continued support! Just checking their site though I think our blog has disappeared from public view!

The post on the blog features a re-vamped version of my Creating Characters post. If you can't get on the Abingdon Writers Blog - the article is below:

The Bittersweet Vine Blog Tour - Self Publishing vs Traditional Publishing

The Bittersweet Vine Blog Tour - Self Publishing vs Traditional Publishing

In 2011 I self-published my first book, Goa Traffic. If you read this blog regularly you will know the process to self publish started much earlier than that. Say 2010. I had finished my manuscript and I had sent out a million submissions to agents and small press. It was my introduction to rejection. Some rejections were constructive and I took those comments on board, but the majority were just standard 'no' responses...

The Bittersweet Vine Blog Tour

I am pleased to announce that to celebrate the launch of my second novel, The Bittersweet Vine, I am going on tour. A blog tour. During the month of October I will be making several stops as detailed below with author interviews and guest posts.

Stop 1 - The Coffee Stained Manuscript! That's here. This is where it all started. My blog. The one which reveals all my writing highs and lows.  On the 1st October 2013 I will be writing a post on my experiences betw...

The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams

The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams - Eleanor Roosevelt

Well The day finally arrived and The Bittersweet Vine is now available to buy as an e-book, a paperback.  Here is the Amazon link if you want to take a look. When I started writing in 2007 I didn't envisage this would happen; that I would get a publisher and have a book in print.  I guess it is proof that dreams do come true.

If you've been following my blog you will know what a roller coa...

Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.

Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself. - George Bernard Shaw

It's Sunday. I'm tired. I don't really want to do much. In fact today is the first time ever I am blogging from my Ipad. I am currently lying on the corner bit of the corner sofa watching something mindless on TV and thinking about what is going to take the least effort to cook.

I feel guilty. Next to me is Mary Cavanagh's book on publicising and marketing your book. I should be stuck in that. The re...

The first draft of anything is shit- Ernest Hemingway

The first draft of anything is shit- Ernest Hemingway

There is a time in any authors journey through writing a novel when they stop mid sentence and think - this is utter drivel. I am going to tear it up (more likely hit the delete button - in this modern age it takes more effort to be romantic about such things) and start again. I ma sure some writers actually do this and then the next morning 1) regret it  or 2) think it was the best thing they ever did and start again.

With every book t...

“We are all apprentices in a craft where no one ever becomes a master.”

“We are all apprentices in a craft where no one ever becomes a master.”  Ernest Hemingway

When was the last time I blogged? I really can't remember and now as I sit pouring over the final draft of my second novel, The Bittersweet Vine (all 268 pages) I need a distraction and what better than to blog!
So basically I have finalised the front cover and the I have just seen the back (It looks good) I have thought about my marketing plan - although no firm plans with that yet. I know...

"Writing a book is a horrible, exhausting struggle..."

“Writing a book is a horrible, exhausting struggle, like a long bout of some painful illness. One would never undertake such a thing if one were not driven on by some demon whom one can neither resist nor understand.”
—George Orwell

Its hot out there isn't it? I haven't been on here on a while and for that I apologise. Life has once again taken over. Work is manic beyond belief and I have been struggling with the front cover of The Bittersweet Vine. But Hoorah! I got there in the end. I should...

Writing is an extreme priviledge...

Writing is an extreme privilege but it's also a gift. It's a gift to yourself and it's a gift of giving a story to someone.
Amy Tan
It has been one of those weeks. Absolutely manic at work and several work in progresses to think about!
Yesterday – on my writing day I thought I would get stuck into Poison in the Water (I’m going to call this PW from now). My goal was to hit 15,000 words and I managed it but then I got thinking is it better to write drivel or have writers block? PW is real...
