Base, Small, Thumbnail and Swatch Images in Magento

If you add products to your Magento store, multiple versions of your image are created automatically.

When you're editing your product, you'll see four different image versions:

Base
Small
Thumbnail

What do those versions mean, and where will you find those different images on your site?

Free Tickets for the Merge Show in Orlando

Lots of conferences follow a very standard format that you've seen many times before.

That is absolutely not true of the Merge Show in Orlando, Florida this month.

The Merge Show is a group of conferences that covers domain names, blockchain technology, CMS platforms, doing business in China, and multiple other topics. If you get a ticket for the Merge Show, you can wander between all these conferences.

The organizers hope this format will allow attendees to learn about lots of new technology, and also network with entirely new groups of people.

We have some free tickets to give away too!

And Then Everyone Started Moving to React ...

Throughout 2017, the WordPress team has been building key new features using React, a Javascript framework developed by Facebook.

However, React has suffered from licensing complications. In mid-September, Matt Mullenweg announced that the WordPress team, and Automattic, were dropping the React framework:
the Gutenberg team is going to take a step back and rewrite Gutenberg using a different library. It will likely delay Gutenberg at least a few weeks, and may push the release into next year

This was big news, and a notable set-back for WordPress's development.

Then everything changed again.

What New Features Are Available in Drupal 8.4?

Every six months, the Drupal team get to release new features.

This is a major change in Drupal 8. Whereas Drupal 7 never had any new features, Drupal 8 has had three significant updates, with Drupal 8.1, Drupal 8.2 and Drupal 8.3.

So what new features are available in 8.4?

I'm glad you asked! We made a short video with our friends at Acquia, introducing all the changes:

New or Updated Modules in 8.4

Perhaps the major theme with 8.4 is a major push to make progress with experimental modules.

Before now only one experimental module (Big Pipe) has become stable. In contrast, 5 important modules went stable in 8.4:

Workflows
Layout Discovery
Media
DateTime Range
Inline Form Errors

The first three modules form the basis of Drupal's new content moderation, layout and media management systems.

Although this is great progress, I do need to add two notes of caution.

First, the Migrate modules are stilll not stable. This will continue to...
